The problem Sim Racing eSports has is that there simply is not enough people to watch it. Sim racers spend their spare time sim racing theirself or watching live real racing or other sports.Unfortunately eSports sim racing comes a long way down the list for most people
Most of the audience in a eSports stream are wives and girlfriends checking if their man is actually racing, not out cheating (yes it is meant to be a joke not factual statistic)
People say this but then i look at Fifa esport scene and big tournaments have 20+thousands people watching. Besides it's a great way to advertise the game Just like real motorsports is for the brands. My last point it's th "sim race fans only care about playing and watch real motorsport" then Explain SuperGT? Explain all these pro/semi pro sim racers content creators with thousands of views every single video!
yea this seems a way of tempting fate to me, our beta is a Massive Esports tornemant in a arena with a live audiance and viewers round the world, one little funny bug of a car flying for some strange reason will become a meme forever "Esports Ready...."
It's fantastic news - such a big tournament - still very concerned about Rennsport quality - they launch a tournament BEFORE it is launched! Seems a bit dangerous - and could be a disaster. Lets hope it runs perfect.
i thought the point of sim racing was that it gave people that couldn't race professionally irl the opportunity to get the feeling of racing from their home, yet here we are in 2023 and now even the 'pro' tournaments in sim racing are being gatekept from the normal person. annoying.
@@MadClunky maybe, I think its fine to have these high level races with the official teams and such but I dont see why that cant just be one of many splits in the competition, with other splits accessible to all people based on driver rating or whatever rennsport is going to be using. I dont know, im not ESL, im sure they know what theyre doing. hopefully.
U have that on Gran Turismo ANYONE can participate u don't even need to have a pro team. Nah all u need is the score if u end up in the top score u willd be able to participate
I think calling out iRacing as old is not that fair. iRacing is (as will Rennsportbe) a Software as a Service offering. You pay monthly and the product constantly updates. iRacing now Vs iRacing in 2008 is massively different. I don’t disagree that it looks behind Rennsport but they have to balance quality of life improvements, new content and platform/graphics update in every release. It’s exciting times though.
@@FrankG666 My subscription runs out end of March and was checking the physics just past weekend with GT3, F3 and Vee. iRacing feels to me like a skill game rather than a driving simulator because I can't feel the grip due to missing tyre-load in the FFB that every other title provides. The car-reaction and sound is your main if not only source of feedback, but even with 6DOF there is not enough feedback to drive intuitively on the limit. The goal is to repeat a sequence of inputs that provides decent lap-times and this sequence will work lap after lap after lap. In other titles like AMS2 and rF2 the outcome is less predictable and with tyre-wear you need to adapt way more than in iRacing and different approaches can have the same results. iRacing feels like there is a golden way and you loose time doing anything different, almost like Beat Saber for Sim Racing.
What a surprise that the Porsche backed content site thinks the Porsche backed SIM is the most important thing to happen in sim racing. You're the problem. And Joe didn't even look like he believes the words coming out of his mouth.
Games that are designed to be E-sports have failed. Make a great game, give the community easy to use tools to gather around and compete and an E-sports is born through them as they will actually want to follow along with it. How this hasn't been realised by game devs looking back at history is beyond me. Racing games come out these days and don't offer the tools for the community to gather and compete and then wonder why they die off so quickly. ACC was saved by LFM and is trying to do the same for RF2 and Iracing success is how easy it is to sign up for online races with clear progression. Hopefully the next generation of sims take this into account and not just deliver good content but ways of using that content both online and offline.
I'd love to watch more esports racing but it's really hard to find details of broadcasts, for me at least. Even when I know an event is coming up it can be a pain to find anything other than a participants stream. Am I missing something? Is there an "Autosport" style publication I've missed? That said sim racing seems to be stagnating at the moment, either the churn has Increased or new players are staying offline for some reason or players are pissed off with being nickle and dimed for content and hardware.
I actually felt that way when the new Cosworth SIM wheel was released at £6000+, I just rolled my eyes thinking another company to syphon money from SIM racers without actually adding anything to help the simracing scene grow or prosper
@@torbinzix1 jeebus I avoided checking the cost on that cause I thought it would be 2 or 3k! I was more thinking about the low end, like how is a logitech g923 is over 100 more than it's identical predecessor at launch? Electronics get cheaper the older they are but not in the SIM world. That and why the he'll do I have to sign up to everyone's patreaon and discord just so I can download a free mod, by all means modders should be able to earn off there creations, but there are a lot of hoops to jump through just for a download that could be on A website with clear install instructions.
@@Alnilam1973 for sure I get that, my first wheel for the PS3 was a Thrustmaster f430 I think it was around £150, the equivalent today would be around t150 £270 and it's actually lesser quality. And it seems if you're not part of these groups you don't know about the racing competitions and leagues.
Daytona will be fixed before next year for sure. Just like the off road issue was fixed iRacing stands no chance of being dethroned at this point. Too stable, too proven and it’s still improving most importantly. New tire model v7 seriously changed the game.
I racing just scooped up a bunch of devs from mad studios so hopefully they implement the feeling of speed into iracing that pcars/automoblista 2 have ....I too have high hopes for Iracing but I love the idea of competition
I dont think the age of a game makes a big difference for Esports. Look at CSGO and street fighter games. Those games are old and still very popular. I do think rennsport is taking a big risk by having this big of tournament on a un-finished game. I personally hope the game does very well because no matter which Sim racing platform you enjoy - more competition is good because it forces companies to do better and improve. as for the cheating/exploits at Spa and Daytona - i do believe stricter punishments need to be taken by IRacing against these types of people. A complete ban might be too far, but a suspension for a month and maybe a 1 year suspension from all special events. but that's just my opinion.
What could be done in a sim racing live event to the viewers that cannot be done in real racing? Especially for sim racers (I think that's the biggsest user base to start this before 'normal' people join). This questions should be asked and at least a few answers found before a lot of money is spend.
I think that when esports try to mimic stick and ball sports is where it fails sometimes. With sim racing so much more insight can be given, like explaining MP rules to fans, understanding racing strats, things like that and move people into watching racing IRL.
This is not exciting. It’s meaningless right now. Rennsport isn’t even out yet for the community to decide how well it performs. Not only that, this sounds like this will be more exclusive to pro esports teams vs being open to all to get into. Sim racing needs MORE events that are open to all to grow the sport we all love.
I don't agree with your first statement. But I fully agree on the second one. But Rennsport is not out yet. For sure they will care also about that aspect. And for sure there will be a possibility for every one.
This exclusivness and event is just a marketing-trick to trigger craving for the public version. It worked with ACC as well, which got popular while being still a buggy mess long after 1.0.
I will be surprised if it is in the Spodek, more likely the exhibition hall next door. The Spodek will be reserved for the CSGO tournament. As you also pointed out, very concerned about this looking bad on camera, I am sure EFG will do the best to have it look right with experienced commentators however 500k on a game not even in Beta is INSANE. We have seen this many times within esports and it has such a high risl of failure and back firing. I am all for growing sim racing but this is a risky way to try and do it.
I think for iRacing tracks like Daytona should have going below the yellow line a 0x (since it can be done for accident avoidance) but it would still invalidate a qualifying or time trial lap. In Nascar it's a penalty to pass below the yellow line, so while that's tough to officiate in officials, throwing a 0x at you in qualifying shouldn't be
They need to have a long think about the whole 0x thing really. Track limits have always been a thing in iRacing, but often the only penalty is to your safety rating. When let's face it, does cutting the course make you unable to race in traffic or just a cheater? But yeah, normally they will use a 1x to prevent you cutting the course and a simple hack would be to fix Daytona.
I have an unpopular opinion with a totally speculative number: 95% of sim racers don't care about esport. Thank me later for saving sim racing reputation...
Agreed... there is a lot of pressure on Rennsport to not fail and join the line of negative conversation in the racing sim world. Really do want them to succeed. We all do.
Not gonna judge it important or not until we have concrete evidence, gameplay/open beta etc..they also didn't address how they will deal with all the exploits and plethora of current sims problems when the main argument is "look at other sims!" good marketing push tho
Don't want to be negative but I would have preferred to see the Sim in Action before having a 0.5M championship... In German there is a saying: "das Pferd von hinten aufzäumen.."
'Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.' I run into similar issues when competing in professional competition bbq. I think it all comes down to how people are raised. Were you taught to 'play fair' and respect the rules? Or were you raised with the deplorable 'if you can get away with it, go for it' mindset?
The current racing games can only be as good as developers are willing to do so or their expertise is. Exploits will always be there. Rennsport will not be much different I doubt.
Other games have tried to launch E-Sports ventures before the game is even out and look at them, now. Yes, I'm being sarcastic because they focused too much on trying to get big sponsors and personalities involved they forgot to produce a good game for the masses, first and foremost. Rennsport launching before the game is even finished only adds to the "E-Sports ready" meme. I don't see this ending well, nor it actually elevating Rennsport, or Sim racing to the new level of popularity they hope it will. 2020 was a once in a lifetime event for sim racing because real world racing was put on hold. That was three years ago. Plus, any feedback from this tournament will be strictly from pros who are an even more niche audience than general sim racing fans. This will further narrow the scope of their product... The very thing they should be avoiding since it's already going to be a paid subscription service. There are just too many caution flags to ignore.
I'm really concerned that maybe the game wont be finished enough and make a big disaster. It just would hurt the simracing esport so so much. How will they test and patch all the expoilts possible?
I have to laugh just a little bit at this. For one, do a search on e-sports sim racing on this platform and you will find numerous videos on how e-sports sim racing has been an utter failure so far. Let's face it, no one wants to watch people sim race. Anyone into sim racing wants to actually do it, not watch it. Secondly, you can spew out ridiculous prize money numbers all day long, but until the money is actually secured, and in the bank, you're basically promising people Monopoly dollars. I refer back to videos on the subject. No spectators, no sponsors. No sponsors, no prize money. Lastly, Rennsport has not even proven it could be a decent platform for online racing yet, much less would have a solid enough net code to handle an e-sports tournament. Hell, the best they've proven so far as that it can be played on a lan with just a few players. I think people need a bit of a reality check on this announcement.
I keep hearing you say sim racing has problems. No it doesn't, most don't care about exports and look at how many sim options we have today compared to 10 years ago. You make it sound like it's on it's last legs.
so i am guessing the sim is done there will be no issue with tire model, physics, track models and track evolution, net code, weather systems, graphical good, UI all good, car systems (setups) there Multiplayer system works good, and sure others can think of more so all that is good as it would be a terrible idea to put a massive Esports event for the world to see on something that is not 99% proven to work, Surely might be a hot take but would it not be better to release the game first make sure it runs well fix bugs from 1000's of data points (the users) just imagine if ACC did this when they released there Beta back in the day with the GTR and Nürburgring and did a massive Esports event on that, they did it the right way to get more information as a open beta to better the sim once released, Then did Esports events once they had abit of work behind it, still not 100% perfect but nothing will ever be
I just can’t take esports seriously especially when it’s not even emulating a sport. Drive to survive got me into real racing and I’ve been playing racing games since project Gotham, why should I take time away from racing myself to watch this kind of thing?
The people caught cheating shouldn't be allowed to compete at all its probably easier said than done but that's what needs to be happening otherwise whats the point
i dont know when it is going to hapoen but isnt rensport game is unfinished ? What happens when one of the largest tournamnets happen in beta phase of the game?😅 this seems like another incoming esport disaster
@@ThePape78 next month 😆😆 game is currently in alpha. What are they thinking😅 perhaps this whole tournament purpouse is for marketing more than actual esport event.
I dont really know how to feel about the Format of the r1. I really like the Format of simulating Real life races. But nevertheless im still excited for this Event and lets see if its great
I quit iracing, because everything i was doing was an exploit, setups, driving, and wheel settings... if you want to go fast you have to drive and setup the car to exploit the horrible, outdated tire model. Which by the way, iracing is proud of... So inho it just isnt worth it to me to pay over a hundred dollars a year to play a game that is no better then anything else on the market..
@@danbaranov No, they have changed it, but the issues remain.. grip flick is the style of driving you must use to be fast (which is entering the corner late and turning the wheel hard and fast into the corner intentionally scrubbing the frt tires which is faster and somehow saves tires), its unrealistic AF... maybe in the future they will fix it and i will go back to iracing. but as of now it is the fastest way.. dont get me wrong, all games have different exploits like this to go faster. but for the price to me it unacceptable
Great video but the real problem with sim racing is its entry costs and as well the difficulty and elitism it has, I personally cant afford a steering wheel and play with a ps4 controller using gyro, i would love to have a wheel but i cant be competitive with controller and also, the elitism of the community pushes big companies to over focus on wheel racers rather than the ones on controller, examples in assetto corsa or ams and rfactor or Iracing,
It's not though, I bought my first wheel with paper round money, people go out, eat take away, basically spending their money on what they enjoy most. For me it was getting a wheel... It really boils down to priorities. Been competing at a high level with t150, never had anything more expensive and cream some of the best in Grand Tourismo
Fair point. I drove for years on a controller. Everyone's financial situation is different. However, that doesn't mean one can't enjoy the hobby at whatever equipment level / skill level they are at. I think the key is to find / join a private league with like minded individuals and race on a set schedule. In the league I'm in we have several players that are using controllers that are consistent. In the end it's all about having fun. You're right about social media and company marketing constantly pushing high end, expensive equipment. Tune it out and enjoy the hobby from your own personal perspective.
Btw about 5:02, this grass abuse. This show how big is competitive in iRacing, when all, very fast racers clise to pro and pro, find legal and illegal ways to win.
Invite only with a prize pool of half a million. Do these people need a reminder that simracing was made popular because people can't afford to race IRL? Yet another sport stolen by the rich.
How can this be a big deal? It is the same ole, same ole. Sim racing is about the inclusiveness for everyone. This, like every other series, is far from inclusive. It is the same teams, same people running around a virtual track in a virtual car utilizing exploits to get an unrealistic advantage.
Pfft so, you telling me that a not even launched game, which's biggest achievement right now is promising a prize of 500k, is the solution for those event failures who happened in platforms being tested for 10+ years?? Bro, I'm not even an iracing player, and I have my fair share of complains about motorsport games, but, all those events could have been ran in rfactor 1 if you wanted, with just one thing: *Stewards* Those "e-sports" are failing the same way as some REAL events are, punishing (or not) racers DAYS after the team's exploit. That cannot happen. Even if you have CRAZY anti-cheat systems etc, people will find a way, and you need stewards to say "hey thats an illegal exploit, +1 lap for you" or "hey blue-flagged car you are not giving the position, insta-ban". You want to promote a game that's paying you for merchandise? Fine, but don't exploit other platforms to promote some sponsor that you have.
this is either paid review or you as a human very optimistic. 99% Sure this will be a shitfest. Maybe it will go to the Project Cars level in next 4 years but it wont be a hit just like that. Look at Automobilista 7 year till it started to grab people attention. Overall game sounds like CSGO but for racers. As well flex with UE5 is a bit weird feels like Forza. I think racing game graphics already at it's peak all devs of all race games have to start improving physics.
I'm not optimistic. I assume the only reason people will watch the Rennsport competition is to see the new game in action. Once the freshness wears off, the competitions will be just as popular as the current ones, which is not that much. People in the industry try to make some new big thing out of simracing esports. This will never happen. Esports scene for any given game is a platform for people to watch and admire the best players in the game. But since simracing is just a substitute for real racing, the best players of that particular game are real world racing drivers. It's not a coincidence that esports took off during the pandemic - when real world motorsport was put on hold and many real world drivers took part in virtual racing events. Now, when motorsport is back and going full throttle, practically nobody cares about esports and nobody will. Because nobody will admire some dude playing a video game, when Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc or somebody else is making next step to win a real racing championship week after week. Abandon the dream, dear simracing industry, and just make some more good games.
My lord this video feels like when I was a kid and tried to hit a certain word minimum on a essay. You repeat yourself so many times. I couldn't finish the video. Sorry.
I think nobody really cares about esports, simracing won't watch it and real motorsport fans won't watch it. The sims it self need to improve to get people exited again. Look at what Microsoft Flight Simulator did for flight sims for an example, flight sims are now more popular than ever. With all competitors stepping up there game.
@@ErwinLiszkowicz It's more a rumour, but they just announced the 992 GT3 R unlike any other title. Hockenheim-Ring is Porsche territory and Rennsport's first track and where does the money come from? Also the title of this video is strange because it's BS.
@@Leynad778 the company structure is available online. You can't see any link to Porsche or anyone connected with Porsche. Since this company is based in Germany, no wonder that they chose Hockenheim. The only track of that caliber outside of it woulde be Nurburgring GP circuit. And the amount of cash necessary to start such project is really not that big. They probably spent maybe 2-3 million euros at this point, if even that. Such amount can easily be acquired even from private investors, which is what they seemed to do.
@@ErwinLiszkowicz You couldn't see a link between KW automotive/Raceroom and Simbin/GTR3 either, but they admitted it later on and I was right on that too. Maybe they just admitted it because I've found out that Sector3Studios & SimBin UK uses the same web-template. And again: Porsche 992 GT3 R as third Porsche in the game plus Audi (all Volkswagen AG) and now this 1 million bucks price pool is suspicious.
4:27 : "...the benefits that esports can offer sometimes can come a bit short." Could you ellaborate on that please? Honest question. Cooling tyres on the grass and going under the yellow line for a fast lap can be perceived as such... but I don't think that's what you are talking about @OverTake_gg
All these "cheats" are no different than the pushing the rules in real life motorsports. IMO Esports will be the death of sim racing. Once money gets involved in anything it always goes to hell.
@NineIsAlso6 I'm not saying this to be jerk, but when have rules ever stopped anyone? Pushing the boundaries has always been part of motorsport. Legends like Smokey Yunick made a career out of it. So why would we expect it to be any different in sim racing.
I think its a bit unfair. top teams already gaining experience on the new platform. So if the sim launches EVERY other team is behind in terms of knowledge and skill. Its bad for eSport competitions if few teams having unfair advantage over the rest. I dont like that. I hate that.
But for how long will Porsche be in ACC? This channel: Owned by Porsche Rennsport: Owned by Porsche That league: Owned by Porsche. Why so insparent about it??? I stick to LowFuelMotorsports
If they pay out a lot of mony offcourse there will be some that cheats, it is the human nature of greed. So i am not suppriced that some will do that. And in this worl we are thought that mony is the most important thing we can have. But in reality the most important thing is our fellow humans.
