Why Rodney Reed was convicted in Stacey Stites' murder | Nightline 

Look at all those fools spending their day defending a rapist and murderer. I despair at humanity sometimes.

I just looked at the evidence. This guy is guilty. He only got caught because he did it to another 19 year old girl who luckily got away. The exact same Modus Operandi. Ditched the car in the same highschool parking lot.

I was actually more on Rodney Reeds side before I watched the 20/20 special. Now I believe be absolutely did it, and should be locked up for the safety of the community. All of the other websites that I had briefly searched on this topic failed to mention his previous sexual assaults. He is exactly where he belongs.

I have done a lot of reading on this case and I'm of the conclusion that Reed is guilty because the evidence points to him being the only possible suspect. His semen was found in her, he claimed it was because of consensual sex, a defence he used when he was accused of another rape and was acquitted because of this claim, what are the odds? The defence claimed that no DNA or fingerprints belonging to Reed were found in her truck, but, that could mean the attack took place outside the vehicle and even it had taken place in the truck, the perpetrator could have easily got rid of the evidence when they left the truck at the high school parking lot. Two women who didn't know each other accused Reed of rape and the DNA recovered belonged to him, one case went to trial, the other didn't. They say he couldn't get a fair trial in the Stites murder because he was African American, but, he was found not guilty in the rape case, if Texas justice system is so racist how come he wasn't found guilty of the rape? All those who came forward later on making claims about her fiance or that she confided that she was in a relationship with a black man should have come forward immediately, making those claims 20 years later invalidates their credibility. I recently saw a documentary about the Horseshoe Lake murders where a 15 year old African American boy was found guilty of the murder of two people and an attempt was made to cover his track by him setting fire to the building, he served time and swore he was innocent, a well meaning relative of the victims, who also was close to the mother of the young man believed him and fought for his release, she succeeded and on his release she employed him, now at 34 years old, only for him to murder her and set her house on fire after trying to rob her, identical MO to the first murders. He committed suicide by drowning himself after the murder, but, sickeningly, his mother and brother blamed that murder on him being incarcerated at 15 for the first murders, of which he was clearly guilty, they failed to get a grip on why he had been incarcerated in the first place. We have become a society where all black people are victims and are not possibly capable of committing heinous crimes against white people. Reed is guilty and he has already had 25 years longer on this planet than Stacey Stites who cannot speak and deny or confirm the claims that they had a relationship.

Quit with the race baiting. He is very guilty. Shame on you for putting the family through this and besmirching the name of the deceased while calling everyone a racist. If things were normal in the world, this would be pulled down for hate speech.

This case should help draw a line in the sand. If you believe Rodney is innocent, you are on the wrong side and should question why you think hes innocent.

They got the right guy. Rodney’s DNA matched. The only reason he got caught was because one of his victims lived to tell the tale. Yes Jimmy ended up being a rapist but he let his victims go which is why he had so many cases on him. And Rodney’s victim’s story matched Stacy.

I love how these people are talking about the 90's as if they were the 40's, in terms of race relations and interracial dating. But the bottom line is that the DNA points to one person: Rodney Reed. He claimed he didn't know Stacey Stites when the detectives were examining whether or not there would be a reason for his DNA to be found on her; his "relationship" only came into the picture when it became useful as a means to exonerate himself. Then there's the fact that DNA was found on Stacey's chest, which presumably means that it was left over from an incident immediately prior to her death, rather than an interaction from the day before, as Reed claims. The DNA on the chest is the smoking gun; if Reed had consensual sex the day before, then it would be extremely unusual for his DNA to still be on her chest a full day later.

Watched mr reeds interview he is definite in his denials about a relationship with Stites and his reactions make believe he is the perpetrator of this crime. Individuals as well as witness often make statements fit what they want after they know all the facts And this appears to be the case here.

Guilty, guilty guilty! His police tapes tell the whole story. It’s the defence that created the story of they were having an affair. Trying to outsmart people in a lie. If he didn’t go to jail for murder, it would’ve been for rape. And so I think he is where he’s supposed to be. Anyone who screams racism about this is absolutely out of their mind. The law did what it was supposed to do….convict criminals.

If the experts had not reexamined the timeline of her death and confirmed she would have been dead before midnight, I would probably still say Rodney could be guilty of the crime but there are a lot of things that raise questions regardless. Jimmy said she was with him until 3AM, I believe? He changed his story on numerous occasions, telling some individuals he was out that night, but then stuck to the story that he was home with her. Her fingernails were clipped neatly. She used to bite her nails, so they would not look like that unless someone had clipped them. Who is most likely to know about DNA under nails? The cops. No DNA found in the car or around the car from Rodney. DNA from empty cans of beer around the body could not exclude the officers and Jimmy left them. Jimmy warned his rape victim that he would kill her if the truth got out about his actions. He is a violent individual. Jimmy failed a number of lie detector tests - these are not admissible in court, but they highlighted that he was reactionary when asked questions specifically relating to his involvement in her death. This was a long time after the murder, so why on earth was he reacting in that way if he's not guilty? I also find it odd how Jimmy moved on so quickly, but I know people can deal with grief differently. Still, it seems so sketchy to me how he got into a relationship just months after her death. Just an additional note on the case of the 12 year old: If you read the transcript of the punishment phase of Reed’s trial you will see the detective who investigated the 12-yr-old's assault stated he had enough evidence to charge the perpetrator at the time, but didn’t. A neighbour stated the victim was told her the rapist said her he was going to rape again, because she went to the police. Two weeks later she was raped again by the same guy. The rapist was the cousin of the girl’s boyfriend and had the same last name of Reed’s cousin, which was “Moore”. Despite belief, there was no DNA linking Rodney to that case. The victim also confirmed years later that Rodney was not her rapist.
