I live in russia and know very well that no one here thinks that giving children some basic military training is wrong. Like, this thought won't even cross the mind~ And i think it's like that in a lot of other places, sadly.

No, my friend, it isn't "like that in a lot of other places". It is like that only where 1) authoritarianism is well established, 2) total disregard of human life is implemented collectively by a totalitarian or quasi-totalitarian regime, 3) fanaticism and collectivism of any sort is widespread (fascism, Islamism, communism, nationalism and ultranationalism, supremacy etc.), 4) repression against civilians is the norm, 5) people don't have to say or do anything, they are or should be indifferent or apathetic, 5) state propaganda keeps brainwashing population by displaying any kind of hate against inside and outside "enemies" of any sort, 6) cannon fodder is needed in the present or in the near future, 7) people are treated like animals, 8) a deluded, immoral, criminal, stupid and dangerous for his own state and the whole humanity leader is installed in power, 9) democracy and liberty and freedom is in lack, 10) educational degree of population and quality of life are very low, 11) war is celebrated as a great means of national struggle against "malevolent neighbors" and "carnivorous foreign institutions", "imperialism" etc ... For example, NO EU country is involved in such methods. No Scandinavian country, nor UK, nor Australia, nor Canada, nor Japan, nor S. Korea, nor Argentina, nor USA... It is like that in places like: Gaza, Yemen, Iran, West Bank, Mali, Somalia,Niger, N. Korea, Russia. Not even in Ukraine is this the case, that is why I haven't claimed that "being in a war state" is a case...

I remember the enthusiasm of american people about what JFK said: "Don't ask what your country has done for you. Ask what you have done for your country". Mussolini, Hitler and Stalin would have sign under that statement. Leaning towards socialism, democratic party even today has many fascistic tendencies.

The outrage of kids learning how to defend themselves, and a sense of purpose. This guy clearly does not understand the young men or the warrior mindset, but I am sure he is the 1st to call for LEO for help.

The thoughts that come to mind is the Canadian Cadet training that starts at 12 years old. It’s optional but participated in by many. It is probably not as complete as the Hamas training that starts at early elementary school age. The Canadian training seems as if it teaches useful skills - I am not sure of ideology. The Hamas version teaches kids to kill infidels and has an ideology baked in. What is Russian ideology? Christianity?

So if I grasp Hoenig's position correctly, Objectivists (or, rather, "Students of Objectivism," since anyone who hasn't been officially anointed by ARI, Peikoff, Binswanger, et al., cannot call himself or herself an actual "Objectivist"), are supposed to despise Russia, qua Russia; and not Russian *communism* specifically. Got it.
@boldstandard
@boldstandard 11 месяцев назад
You do not grasp his position. Russian communism was a product of its culture, which was a product of certain philosophical ideas- specifically, as explained in the video, collectivism. Unfortunately, when the USSR collapsed it did not take this collectivist ideology down with it. Putin, formerly in the KGB, may no longer fully embrace the specifically Bolshevik variant of the ideology of collectivism, but he obviously and undeniably still subscribes to collectivism in principle. Your red herring argument about Ukraine’s own alleged collectivist tendencies miss the point. Whatever problems of corruption and authoritarianism may exist or may have existed in Ukrainian government, it is a bastion of freedom and liberalism in comparison with Russia. The Kremlin accusing Ukraine of being fascist is like the pot calling the porcelain bowl black.

@@boldstandard >>>You do not grasp his position. Yes, I do. >>>Russian communism was a product of its culture, which was a product of certain philosophical ideas You do not grasp historical facts. Russian communism was simply German Marxism, imposed on the collapsing Czarist regime by a German agent named "Lenin." Germany's goal in sending Lenin "to the Finland Station" (per the name of a famous book by lefty literary critic, Edmund Wilson) was to destabilize Russia and have it opt out of WWI by means of preoccupying it with a communist revolution and an ensuing civil war. It worked. >>> specifically, as explained in the video, collectivism. According to Ayn Rand, "collectivism" is the root of religion, including Christianity, which was the core belief system of the Founding Fathers of the United States. To say that "collectivism" was somehow unique to Russia, or that it explains how the Bolsheviks were able to usurp power during a civil war is true but superficial, and therefore explains nothing. It's like saying that gravity "explains" why aircraft sometimes crash. It's true that without gravity aircraft might not crash, but the problem is that gravity also explains why aircraft usually *don't crash*, but rather, land safely most of the time. "Gravity" is therefore a non-explanation. Same with "collectivism." >>>Unfortunately, when the USSR collapsed it did not take this collectivist ideology down with it. Alas, when the United States was brought under the aegis of a Constitution in 1789, the Founding Fathers- not to mention most of the population - were Christians (not Deists, as many mistakenly believe), so according to Objectivism, their premises were "collectivist," too. Yet the U.S. flourished. Therefore, "collectivist ideology" doesn't explain anything. In any case, the Russian Federation is far freer politically than Ukraine, which is considered by many to be the most corrupt country in Europe. The government of Ukraine is mainly run by actual thugs, with the president (Zelensky) being nothing more than a puppet, who is following policies determined by (1) the thugs in his government, and (2) the military-industrial-complex warmongers in the U.S., who profit from war. You seem to know nothing about the history of Ukraine, including the history of the Donbas region with its many ethnic Russians who live there, and who were bombed incessantly by the Ukrainian army since 2014, after the CIA helped overthrow Ukraine's democratically elected president. The CIA orchestrated a coup - a so-called "color revolution" - because the majority of the population and the democratically-elected president did not want to join NATO. After the collapse of the USSR circa 1990, the U.S. promised the USSR that NATO would not "push east" toward the border of Russia, on condition that Russia not balk at a reunited Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Russia agreed to that -- an agreement that presupposed political neutrality of Ukraine - because it didn't want U.S. nukes in Ukraine, right on its own border (duh!), for the same reasons that President Kennedy, back in the day, didn't want Soviet nukes in Cuba, 90 miles from the U.S.'s border. The CIA coup to overthrow the legitimate president of Ukraine was confirmed by a leaked phone call between the Deputy Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, and the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine. You can listen to the call by searching for it online (perhaps on Rumble, X, or Truth Social). Much more recently, Victoria Nuland confirmed to a senate committee chaired by Florida senator Marco Rubio, that the U.S. does, indeed, have biolabs in Ukraine, which she referred to euphemistically as "biological research facilities." According to RFK, Jr. (and many others), these biolabs have been actively "researching" (i.e., manufacturing) bio-weapons, including anthrax and various corona-viruses by using "gain-of-function" procedures. You can watch RFK, Jr's interview with Tucker Carlson here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G5Q9PTtvaj8.html Swallow the red pill, already, and wake up.

@@boldstandard ''A bastion of freedom and liberalism''?How can you say that with a straight face.Seriously do you know anything about how corrupt and repressive their government is?Sure they may allow some degenerate western culture to exist but beyond that its a Junta governing body that was helped put in power by the CIA and controlled by a small number of oligarchs.

Hoenig's knowledge of the war in Ukraine is pathetic, and probably formed from paying undue attention to mainstream corporate media, rather than independent journalists, many of whom are actually in the Donbass region of Ukraine (mainly Russia-speaking Ukrainian citizens) who confirm the fact that the far-right within the Ukrainian military -- the "Azof Battalion" -- has been shelling those citizens regularly since 2014. In fact, under the Obama administration, the US conducted a "color revolution" in Ukraine and overthrew the elected president (who was not in favor of joining NATO and having it expand right up to Russia's border, and who was also in favor of closer economic ties with Russia) and helped install a pro-US-government puppet president. We have a leaked phone call from the deputy Sec. of State, Victoria Nuland, attesting to that. Nuland has also recently confirmed during her testimony in front of the US Senate (specifically to senator Marco Rubio) that Ukraine does, indeed, have bio-weapons labs (which we now know were built and financed by the US), but that they are "research labs". Ahem. In other words, they are "dual-use" labs that put up a public relations front about researching "vaccines" for this or that disease, but which are also engaging in gain-of-function research to make viruses, anthrax, and other pathogens deadly (one of the labs, by the way, named "Meta-Biota" has Hunter Biden as one of its board members). And you wonder why Putin regarded US-NATO expansion into Ukraine as an existential threat to Russia! Exactly the same thing would occur if we discovered that Russia or the CCP were building nukes or bio-weapons labs in Mexico or Canada. Russian troops are in Ukraine for the following main reasons: 1) to stop the Azov Battalion from shelling ethnic Russian Ukrainian citizens in the Donbass region; 2) to keep Ukraine politically neutral, rather than becoming a member of NATO right up against Russia's border; 3) to find and decommission US-built-and-financed bio-weapons labs; and 4) to de-Nazify the Ukrainian military...mainly by killing members of the Azov Battalion. To be perfectly clear about this last reason: members of the Azov Battalion are not "Ukrainian patriots" or "Ukrainian Nationalists"; they are simple, traditional Nazis. Regarding the far-right Azov Battalion: they are a group of grandchildren of former Ukrainian Nazis from WWII; they're not even "neo-Nazi skinheads." They're the real deal, still wearing "Black Sun" symbols on their uniforms, one of the symbols worn by their grandparent collaborators. Even the US mainstream media published lots of articles on the Nazis in the Ukrainian military that were becoming fully integrated and no control much of the military's tactics and strategies. We don't see much about that today because mainstream media is fully controlled by corporate interests, which in turn, are fully controlled by various US intelligence service interests. If you've been following the various "Twitter Files" releases by Elon Musk, given to journalists like Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss, you'll see that US intelligence services infiltrated and controlled online social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, et al. It's all there, verbatim. Swallow the Red Pill, Hoenig, and wake up.
