At the start of the winter war, Stalin wanted a wide Assault against Finland to replicate what the Germans did to Poland. It went terribly, so so terribly. When they realized how badly the offensive went, the Russians reorganized into a spearhead heading towards the Finnish capital. The Fins had already run low on guns and supplies due to the industrial difference between Finland and the USSR, so the Finnish government offered to concede some land in exchange for the countries returning to peace. In the end, the USSR did "Win", but the initial Assault was so laughably bad that it has become a meme among history (rightfully so). Finland did kick ass, but they could only hold out for so long.

Finland lost on their own, but when Germany invaded the USSR, Finland sided with axis and took back some stuff but when Russia pushed Germany back they took their Finnish gains back too.

I don't think it's necessary for us to join NATO, but we should impose sanctions on Russia (to Russian diplomats and oligarchs, not to their citizens) as well as turn to the West because it is both the right thing to do and we would benefit from it. Compare to the current offensive, the same huge number of shellings simply cannot match up Russia artillery rate of firing around 20k a day. While they losing a huge numbers of personnel and equipment. According to General Miley, the Ukraine manage to get 50k troops for this offensive while the Russian waiting for them around 300k. L'OTAN est une alliance très large de nations qui n'ont pas les mêmes buts géostratégiques, à tel point que Macron a déclaré que l'organisation était en état de mort cérébrale. La réalité c'est que la seule chose qui a revitalisé l'OTAN récemment, c'est l'attaque de l'Ukraine par la Russie et cette attaque n'a rien à voir avec l'expansion de l'OTAN ou une quelconque violation d'une zone tampon. Il est très évident que les pays de l'OTAN n'ont aucune intention d'attaquer la Russie car ils redoutent une rétalation nucléaire. C'est d'ailleurs à cause de cette peur que l'OTAN a essayé d'éviter à tout prix de fournir des armes avancées, capables d'attaquer à longue distance, à l'Ukraine (Et le résultat? La Russie est entrenchée en Ukraine et il y aura beaucoup, beaucoup plus de victimes des deux côtés.) Poutine peut répéter autant qu'il veut que cette guerre est la faute de l'OTAN, mais ses vrais raisons sont tout autre. D'une part, il souhaite conserver un accès à la méditérannée via le port de Sevastopol (un accès que le nouveau gouvernement de l'Ukraine ne souhaitait plus renouveler, et suite auquel la Russie a décidé de prendre le contrôle de la Crimée) et d'autre part, la Russie ne souhaite pas avoir plus de compétiteurs dans le marché des hydrocarbones (car l'Ukraine souhaitait déveloper ses propres resources d'hydrocarbones et bien entendu, le vendre aux Européens). (On notera en passant que la moitié de la production mondiale de Neon provenait d'Ukraine et que c'est important pour les semiconducteurs. C'est toujours sympathique de controler cela.) Le but de Poutine avec son attaque en Ukraine était entièrement impérialiste, avec l'intention de soumettre l'Ukraine au bon vouloir de la Russie (tout comme il essaie de pousser à l'annexion de la Biélorussie plutôt que de garder un "état tampon". Bien entendu, il est clair que les Etats-Unis ont cherché à augmenter leur influence en Europe et il est clair que ceci a été au détriment de la Russie mais ceci est une réalité qui suit la puissance économique relative de ces nations, et il est complètement idiot de clamer que ce n'est "pas autant la faute de Poutine" et qu'il a été patient. C'est des conneries ça! Il est juste clair que, oui, les gouvernements Européens n'ont pas jugé correctement la bélliquosité de la Russie. l'Ukraine a pris des décisions qui ont poussé la Russie à agir avant d'avoir assuré qu'ils avaient le support militaire nécessaire pour prévenir une aggression, et malheureusement on est dans une situation qui est juste désastreuse pour l'Europe (vu que ce serait vraiment juste mieux pour nous d'éventuellement intégrer la Russie dans l'UE - quoique autant je pense que ce serait idéal, autant je sais que c'est strictemen impossible avec la "démocratie" actuelle Russe.). Pour moi, l'OTAN est un projet qui aurait du rester strictement Européen; oui, les Etats Unis devraient rester un alliés d'une alliance Européene, mais ils n'ont rien à faire dans l'organisation et surtout pas à sa tête. Malheureusement, il n'y a pas la direction Européene nécessaire pour gérer une telle organisation. Il faudrait honnêtement dissoudre les nations et former une confédération plus unies en Europe (en s'assurant que les pouvoirs centralisés soient limités et que l'entité reste démocratique) mais bon, il n'y a pas de volonté pour cela. Pour beaucoup, l'UE n'a tout simplement pas fait ses preuves Enfin bref, la propagande Russe comme quoi ils ont attaqué l'Ukraine à cause des actions de l'OTAN, c'est de la blague.
