Fun fact: Samson and The Fireworks was originally gonna be not only a Season 21 episode, but an episode written about Oliver and his fear of Fireworks, which that should’ve been in the fucking first place!
I actually have a theory behind this that he’s a cancelled Sharron miller character as this definitely feels like something she would make but I guess they forgot about him till season 18 and decided to reuse him without changing his character just a thought
Yeah at first I thought Samson was just an "okay" character, but considering the fact it's been a long time since I've watched the Brenner era, this video now reminds me how poor his personality really was. Also, great editing, funny humour, and so much improvement has been seen in this video, Eli! You're really getting the hang of making these videos! Keep it up!
I've highly noted there's something very maddening about Samson as a character introduced in S18. through some profoundly moments in the classic seasons, whenever Gordon, James, Thomas, Henry, Sir Handel, and Spencer ignore common sense, their behaviours gets them into comeuppances. What we know about the characters in the original seasons, Thomas was a cheeky Bratty-Half Pint, Gordon is proud and pompous, James is a vain narcissist, Henry is irritable yet anxious, Sir Handel is a stuck up brat, and Spencer's an egotistical aristocrat. The difference between them and Samson, is that they've owned up and show remorse for misbehaving, as Samson fails to learn common sense, acts all overly pompous, and makes a right idiot of himself (coupling up to the express coaches without noticing them behind, believing a postman's bicycle and bus stop sign were scrap, taking too many trucks of stone, and thinking that the model volcano was erupting)
Your joke timing and quick edits are pretty funny and the video is very well made Never knew much about Samson before so never knew why people disliked him, now I see it with my own eyes lol
Most of the characters introduced in the Hit Era such as Neville, Molly, and Billy only get a major role in one episode then are just thrown away to be background characters and be sold for merch
Samson is just one of those characters i can't watch, the first time i watched him, he just felt so stuck up and stubborn and he said he learnt his mistake, just to make the SAME mistake multiple times across multiple episodes. Samson's fear of fireworks should have stayed as an Oliver episode that sort of deals with trauma from being in a scrapyard as an engine. It's a shame because he has a good design, it's just he's soo irredeemable because he's pretty much got nothing going for him personality wise.
I think a episode to introduce Neil Samson & Neil can have an episode we’re Neil can tell him sense and he can have Character Development and him and Neil can be a duo
I wouldn’t drop the F bomb and throw Samson in the trash, but I agree with you. Samson is terrible. He’s actually my least favorite character in the whole show. (unless we’re counting AEG). With a few tweaks Samson could work, but i’m hesitant to try to make Samson work because his one good episode (not counting Millie and the volcano), was replacing an Oliver and Toad episode. Dang it Samson!
6:09 as bad as a character Samson is, the red signal thing was so relatable for me. Cause destroying your car’s brakes just to stop at a red traffic light is the worst
Nice video, man. I think some of the biggest issues with his episodes are the discrepancy caused by his crew being in an open cab, therefore being able to see when he's pulling the express, or the lack of logic present when he trashes random railside objects. I don't mind a proud or stubborn character obviously, but they need to show growth or a more likeable side to their personality to work. Bradford meanwhile is pretty great for what he is.
Actually wouldn't Samson and the Fireworks be his only good/best episode because it shows that under that pride stubborn persona is has phobias similar to Henry but not as hypochondriac? And that's very rich coming from BWBA instead of the Brenner Renaissance era.
I couldn’t agree more with you. Samson is kinda like Oliver but ten times worse. And I’m not saying that because of the whole fireworks episode thing or the fact he has a brakevan.

Acttualy Samson sent for scrap 's Car incident makes sense because there alot of cars with the Same Design but Different Number plats so he could just think it's a abondanded Car with the same colour
A lot of people and myself probably thought that Samson is like a tank engine version of Gordon or James because of how he's arrogant, boastful and a show off like what the guy said in the video, but I definitely don't see that now. Yes Gordon and James have made loads of mistakes by being too proud or embarrassed to say or do anything, but afterwards they would learn from that very mistake, whereas it doesn't seem to be the case with Samson. Also Gordon and James show they're caring and helpful sides from time to time if someone else is in grave danger or if something involved a lot of teamwork, whereas Samson would probably just roll his eyes and just brush everything off or something like that.

I got a few Samson episode ideas to make him a bit better like learning the same lesson James did in Series 5, challenging Sonny on who's the strongest tank engine and be the target of Toby's chaotic neutral side. It may just be the same old thing but bear with me on it please.
I don’t hate Samson, and I remember that he was ok. He’s not the most irritating character in the series (and no I don’t think the Logging Locos are the worst).
What i fail to comprehend is how a CAR sitting by the tracks with NO SIGNS OF RUST OR DECAY, can pass off as scrap! (Other than samp's IQ being in single digits)
I like that Samson would never learn and that he is a bit of an idiot. I can also imitate his voice, but also kinda sounds like Charlie which makes him even more annoying and I like it. I like characters like Samson, James, Gordon and RWS Henry. But my favourite is Toby who is the opposite of them, but I mean Diesel 10 and Henry are tied as second soooooooooooooooooo. Overall Samson is a nasty little prick, but I like him for that, because he can bring the best or worst in another character.
Also idk why Thomas was coupled to the brakevan while banking Samson. Pretty much every other time someone banks a train over Gordon's hill, they aren't coupled(See: Edward and Gordon, James and the trouble with Leaves, and Fish) I gues because plot.

I was never a big fan of Samson, and tbt I do for one think he's also the worst character in the Brenner era. I also dislike Carly a bit, while Phillip I happen to like him a bit. Still, whoever thought Samson would be a good character, shame on them as he just simply never learns the mistakes he makes!!
Samson’s design, I really like. Very reminiscent of Neil. Though it is questionable how he does things on his own accord, while his driver and firelighter are out in the open, doing nothing about it. Plus his hesitation and idiocy gets the better of him and is quite a dopey, egocentric dumbass. This is especially evident when he views everything he sees on the side of the tracks as scrap.
Samson is the bad kind of pompeus, he never really gets his comeuppance in an embarrassing way like Gordon would. He is also the bad kind of vain, unlike James, Samson is not experienced on Sodor and has no reason to be proud of himself yet. Samson is just a very bad mix of Gordon and James making him unbearable.
A couple of people I know see Samson's appeal being he is the twat we all have met at some point in our lives so we can laugh at him. The guy you'd love to hate. Me? Samson and the Fireworks did redeem him for me mainly. Now I just hate him in the sense that he's the guy that I'd hate to meet in real life.
Solution: Replace him with a WD Austerity 2-8-0, make it female and pessimistic personality since she’s been withdrawn and put back in service multiple times in her lifetime before she’s been preserved. (Edit) Perhaps give her a heroic action like her real life basis.
Neil was NOT scrapped! He was bought by the Crovan’s Gate Mining Company, and (probably) later became part Sir Topham Hatt’s Collection Of Preserved Locomotives.

@SuperThomasEli99 well I'm impressed with your video of samson the proud tank engine and I'm a huge fan of your channel and I give my opinion about this character In samson at your service episode he did a good job listening to sir topham hatt about his job but taking the express cars and telling stanley and James off about making a mistake not nice In samson sent for scrap he was supposed to find only things that were rusted and broken not a postman bicycle or a stop sign or sir topham hatt.s car and he didn't listen again In millie and the volcano samson and Harvey shouldn't be mean and teasing millie the narrow gauge royal engine by calling her silly little engine but he didn got what was coming to him 😂😂😂 hilarious scared of a model volcano 🌋 he's shouldn't know better than that Saving time more like wasting time when thomas stanley and diesel were listening why samson sent to sodor because sir topham hatt needs the stone from the blue mountain quarry and samson couldn't do the job on his own because two engines are better than one and serious samson you had to pull too much trucks all the way to Gordon's hill and get stuck at the bottom and couldn't take half of the load instead and not uncoulping thomas at the back end and got him in trouble when he had enough trouble in sodor's legend of the lost treasure but took the blame and apologized to thomas at the quarry and being silly again And finally samson and the fireworks 🎆 while going to the quarry fog rolling in the island and afraid of the fog detonater thinking it was the fireworks and didn't want to discuss his fear with thomas who was delivering them to the castle and got lost in the fog instead he listen to Bradford and find the way to to the earl's estate he did a wonderful job by trusting him and face his fear of fireworks
Okay, seriously, why can’t more people just stop bitching about characters that they don’t like, and at least try to come up with ways to rewrite them?
I hate most of the CGI series. The Brennar era is way less bad (I really respect how much it utilised Railway Series lore) but still so many characters have annoying voices or are annoying in some other way. Samson shows that even Andrew Brennar can't make the CGI series not annoying.
