Seiko is on fire 🔥 After the wonderful seiko 5 field GMT in January , they strike again. I have the SBSC009 JDM white field, I will probably pick the SRPK89 down the line. Thanks Mark for acknowledging Seiko, the other channels don’t realize what the watch industry owe to seiko.
I wish they'd also released the same SNXS dials with updated hardware. Those are some of the best looking dials, especially the SNXS79. These are more sporty than dressy. Good watches but I dont think of get one, as I already own a DressKX.
They had a perfectly fine 100 bucks SNSX line... Made it thicker, added 70 meters of water resistance, kept the hardlex but made it single domed, added manual winding and hacking, upgraded the case finishing and downgraded (imho) the dial design and made it 400 bucks... By all means it's a 250 dollars watch by today's standards, not a 400, seriously... And even if it was 250 I would just get an old SNSX and replace the bulbous caseback with something more flat
Still the problem. It's much more expensive than what you get. It's seiko doing the exact thing that everyone hates. Cheap clasp, bracelet, crystal, and charging prices far outside of what people can get. History and heritage is only worth so much when the product is not made with quality. The watch is gorgeous for $200 or maybe $250. I say this out of love for the brand. I want a seiko again as it was one of my first watches as a young man and I love the brand so much.
I was not aware of these new releases until i saw them at the store in tokyo today. I was sold when i held it. Here they retail of around 300USD and are made in japan. The quality is at par with the dresskx. I have an srpe61 jdm model.
I agree, it's a great-looking watch and I'll take your word that it feels great...but a hardlex crystal and a pressed clasp on a $395 MSRP watch? You can do better, Seiko. I can get a sapphire crystal and a milled clasp on a $200 Baltany. I love Seiko, I own FIVE Seikos, but I think that the new Seiko 5 models are way overpriced compared to the competition.
I love these watches. I noticed a lot of people complaining when they came out as seiko doubling the prices and making them look cheaper which I did not understand what they where on about given they really look good and yeah prices is typical seiko BS of late but hey won't take long to see good discounts offered on them from peoples fav discounting stores like starbuys here in australia. I love the clean and classy dial finish along with the front used for the automatic which reminds me of my SARB033. And no crappy folded links bracelets....Surly in todays highly computerised manufacturing world that folded links can't be that much cheaper to solid links? It almost feels like the process to make folded ones would take more steps and cost.
I agree I really don’t get the complaints from people online about the price. It’s the perfect watch and a great price as well! It’s a great size, not too big not too thick it’s just perfect
@@Tdr-jv2nc It seems to be people complaining that the new watch with the vastly upgraded bracelet, movement, and finishing shouldn't cost more than the cheaper model that came out 10 years ago.
I really don’t mind the price, what bugs the hell out of me is that 5 under the Seiko. That design details is something I can’t get over. Other than that, watch looks amazing
Mark, please come out with a double-domed sapphire crystal for these! PLEASE! The single dome is a deal breaker-but having the double-domed option means more of these will sell!
I feel like these are a bit of a miss, honestly. The finishing looks fantastic, and I love the size, but the thick case, aged lume, and now a chapter ring to worry about alignment don't really do it for me. I also wish Seiko put a bit more effort into integrating the bracelet to the case seamlessly. Thanks for the video!
Just ordered the champagne dial one from Jomashop for $264 with tax and shipping. I've always wanted this style of watch, but the current ones look a bit cheap, and I didn't like the movement. This one is much improved; the bracelet is fantastic, and so is the dial. I'm glad I didn't pay retail; no one should. It's a great watch for under $300.
Last Monday I got myself the SNK381, the OG Seiko 5 with all the numerals, fully lumed, 130USD. You just convinced me - these new SNXSs are not worth 3 times the money. Greedy Seiko...
Well, I saw these in a shop yesterday. Still prefer the Citizen Tsuyosa for this type of watch. Also, does anybody else have the feeling that Seiko has started to charge a markup for their brand name in recent years?
Why doesn't Seiko offer sapphire on anything but very pricey watches and a few of the Essentials series? If even cheapo Chinese watches can offer sapphire at well under 100 dollars, why does Seiko insist on only hardlex on so many models?
Because it’s entry level, and 99% of people buying this watch don’t care about sapphire or a pressed clasp - they’re just regular people who think it looks nice. It’s also in their best interest to keep sapphire for the next tier models, so that people who do care will ideally spend an extra couple hundred $ on the more premium model, boosting their revenue margins
I'm sorry Marc but for the price people should get an Islander Brookville instead. Looks better, is thinner, has a screw down crown, has a 4hz well decorated Miyota with sapphire and a milled clasp plus its only 1mm larger. On top of that I just checked and its even *cheaper* than this some by more than $100. I have the ISL-37 from the first batch with the 3 o'clock date and its been with me mountain climbing, swimming in the ocean, hot tubs, weddings, you name it. Now if only LIW would make a standard blue aventurine dial Brookville I'd have two of them. A full lume X1 C3 and it would be 3. The watch is basically perfect for what it is. Not sure why anyone would or should buy this over that.
I like them but yes, I’m one that doesn’t like the price. I’d call the third one a light champagne color.🤷🏻♂️ Thanks Marc. Have a great Memorial Day weekend as we remember all those who died serving our country. 🙏🏼🇺🇸
Could have been an ok watch but; Hardlex crystal. Pressed clasp. Unnecessary display caseback that just increases the height to show off another basic movement. The hideous colour of the indeces and hands. The price. It's a massive NO from me.
I wish the second hand is silver, and the chapter ring should've been the same color as the dial. And also get rid of the faux patina lume, come on Seiko, I can patina the lume myself 😂
I absolutely love the design of these. I would probably not be able to resist one if they were say 39mm, but I get why they are sized at 37.5. The blue is my favorite. Overall, Seiko nailed it.
Marky baby ya left out a key feature that Might justify the price point Sapphire? For that price at least Sapphire and Screw in Pins, come on SEIKO get with it!
To this day my Seiko srpc85k1 is my favorite Seiko. I'm wearing it right now. Nothing really special about it. I may pick up one of these, they give me the same vibes as my srpc.
I picked up the black dial SRPK89K1, sent it to Jody at JOMW boxed up for his unboxing and review. Picked it up from my preferred online AD at a VIP price in Aussie dollars equivalent to US$265. Absolutely love it!
I have the black dial version and I love it! It looks and feels better than it should for the price. In Europe we get Kanji Dials as standard, which I think is cool and odd at the same time. Also no "Made in Japan" inscription on the dial
With brands such as San Martin raising the bar so substantially in $200-$300 price range, I don’t see how anyone could consider this watch for more than $125. Seiko isn’t ready or able to compete with the better Chinese brands in this price range. The Chinese watches are so nice (price aside) that it really calls into question the $0 - $1000 price segment. There is simply no need to spend more than $300 to get a watch that looks and feels first rate.
I would definitely take the Seiko 5. I value the design aspect of a watch more than paper specifications, so I would rather have this than a lookalike of some other watch with better specs. I have a few Chinese watches, and they’re definitely well made for the price, including SM, but I just could never really connect with them. Idk just feels like they lack any character
I would guess anyone familiar with the original models will own them and wonder what the point is of laying out another $400 for something that looks pretty much the same.
I might be the odd one or for this, but i would want the black one with a black chapter ring. They all look great, though. For the silver dial, I would almost call it a "vintage" silver, if that makes sense. It almost looks like silver as it begins to oxidize.
I love the Black Wash version, (My only current Seiko), but, after a couple of weeks... Positives: almost everything. Bracelet is fine, wears AMAZING, and it's quite amusing when people with not much watch knowledge wonder why I've got a Rolex on at work instead of my Casioak. The Lume is very good. RRP was easy to negotiate 20 percent off in the shop. Negatives: just one. I'm not gonna complain about the clasp, it's a high quality watch, they saved money on a perfectly workable clasp.... The only negative... That Crystal. I've never had hardlex before. It's rubbish when the watch is at a slight angle. Really rubbish. I have to swap it out for sapphire at some point.
I like what seiko is doing. Elevating their lower tier watches which elevates the brand. If you compare the old to the new theyre making huge strides in their brand. Also with them releasing grand seiko movements into Seiko it seems like theyre trying to build the respect and honor of their Seiko brand. I like it. Compared to Omega group which rereleases the same exact watch for 10 years and then raises the price for no reason.
Oh, bracelet for SNKL23 coming?! Yes, yes, yes!!! First you got me a better bracelet for my Seiko solar 38 mm (thank you!) and now also for my SNKL? Wonderful!
hardlex??? Still? SERIOUSLY??? just no not ever again not tintil they stop this nonsense with hardlex! What's even worse is they put sapphire in their low end solar watches!. Totally unacceptable
12.5 thick is ridiculous. But all their automatics have the issues of being to thick. And just stop w/ 18mm lugs. Small watches like this look better proportioned w/ 20mm lugs.
This would have been a relevant release, IF it wasn't for Islander brand. Marc, your designs and value proposition RULE the ~500USD and below timepiece space.
I'd much prefer to get one of the original SNXs for (something like) the original price. I can't see myself ever buying a watch with the new 5 logo, it'd feel like wearing a T-shirt saying "I overpaid for this." Like maybe the prices for these watches are reasonable for the specs, but then don't pretend it's entry level by calling it a 5.
I don’t get it why so many like this new release. I think they updated the model towards more sporty look, which completely ruins it for me. Also, the new logo looks cheap. It’s ironic that the older and cheaper model has applied logo that looks more expensive. I just don’t get it. I only get it from business perspective, as it looks like Seiko doesn’t want to provide all the good stuff in their cheaper models anymore. Smart move from business perspective I guess.
The day complication - surely the most pointless feature on any watch. What kind of drunk or ditz do you have to be to need reminding what day it is for goodness sake!
I really like these and that price seems not to bad to me, for what we get. I am considering this actually (just cant decide which color). Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these.
Seiko needs to put sapphire on all their watches these days, come on. Even the cheapest Ali express ones have them now, it isn’t expensive. Other than that, there is a good argument that this is all the watch you ever need. Datejust vibes.
The third one I would call "champagne." Wish they would abolish the billboard-sized day-date window, but that's Seiko for ya (on virtually every model no less). Love the size of those. 37mm is perfect - big or small wrists. That MSRP is a bit confusing for a Seiko 5.
Tried this today. I was going to try the speedtimer at the AD, but ended up liking this more. Feels good, looks great, solid endlinks, fine bracelet, stamped clasp. Now its between the new Seiko 5 38mm and this one. I love the design language that Seiko has, it speaks to me.
@@islandwatch That makes zero sense as a reply. They are priced in a silly way, they look like a bad copy of a cross between an air king and a datejust, the solid end links don’t match the case at all, the bracelets jingle like they came out of a cracker. There is no need for exhibition casebacks on movements that are mundane and boring.
@@TCL_Dasler It may feel like the original Explorer which happens to feel light on the wrist with a cheaply made bracelet, which is completely the opposite of the new explorer which is very well made and the bracelet is a nice weight.
@@ragetobe.... Which is the price of a car. You aren't going to get the same for 300. As I said, try it on. I think it feels really really good for the money asked (Currently £270 where I live.)
What's wrong with hardlex??? G Shocks have lower level mineral crystal and there's never any issues... hardlex is stronger than simple mineral crystal..and it's actually shatter resistant more than sepphire..why the heck people keep complaining about this issue??..
Hey Mark, would you be having an aftermarket non-display caseback for the new Seiko 5 series? These watches are too tall vs diameter. Dive watches, I can get behind being taller but these guys and specially the field watches I feel should be thinner
Yes! Great news about the new bracelet! Can’t wait. Love the new watches too, especially looking forward to the weight and balance changes. I have 18 MM leather straps but the feel skinny and I think metal does best at 18 mm
