I have a Sequential Pro 3 SE, and absolutely love it. Two analog VCOs, and a digital VCO with wavetable. 3 analog filters. Great mod matrix and sequencer. Real fun playing with it.
Took me many years to finally understand the love and to find my own for Sequential. Im a Moog guy for spendy synthesizers. But lately that has changed, and once you really spend a good amount of time with even a Rev2, you realize how special they all are. The Take 5 i immediately fell in love with. The pro3 might be the best mono synth to ever have been released.. i own tons of mono synths and i barely even touch my Matriarch anymore because of it.
Good to see you posting videos here again! You're a great spokesperson for Sequential. Not ever having had ANY Sequential (or Dave Smith) synths in my studio, I'm contemplating getting one. Which ONE Sequential/Dave Smith synthesizer would you recommend as a good first purchase that's generally representative of these brands? I'm looking for something that can be bought used for less than $2K. The Pro 3 seems to fit my criteria, but I would like your recommendation if you don't mind.
There are some great choices with the Sequential brand. They all sound great. If you need analog only then pro 3 works great but keep in mind the limited voicing. You can get one sub 2k. If poly is needed it might be tough getting a keyboard lower than 2k. Although they do have the take 5. And they have modules too you can find deals on. If I was going for a balance of price vs poly and didn't have all the other synths, the take 5 is a great starter. Imho.
Those 3 keyboard's alongside a good drum machine is all you need, maybe a few fx but just those would be enough for some serious electronic auditory warfare..( The Sequential's i'm meaning)..
I have a couple of Sequentials, love em, great value for money and 1 has almost doubled which is good, but would never sell it. 1 think I will mention, a certain someone stated that the P5 sounded too digital, I mean an all analog synth sounds too digital? I guess that's why they have nothing now, because they know nothing. Miss Dave, he made things accessible to the common man, wealth of info and super cool guy. Glad I was able to get some OG Sequnetial when I did.
For Sequential my picks are: Prophet 5/10, Take 5, Trigon-6, the old Pro-One, and the Oberheim OB-X8 Wait what? bu -but it says Oberheim on it! Yes, they built that for Tom, sure it says OB on it. It's not like Tom has synth manufacturing warehouses just sitting around for the odd synth he might or might not make. Why do you think Sequential/Dave was involved in the first place? Also, Tom is up there in years, 87 currently. Anyways, nice collection!🤘
any thoughts you care to share about the Prophet X being discontinued? will there be a successor to it? should potential/current owners be concerned by the comment made by Sequential about the unavailability of several key components? i had a PXL a few years ago, but then sold it to help purchase a P10. around that time, prices for the PX, and PXL went up. then sometime later, they discontinued the PXL. i've been debating whether to pick up the PX before stock runs out, or save the money for a Super Gemini later this year.
Good questions! I may just do a video on this topic. I have a line open with Sequential so I will pass along your concerns and see about doing a video on it.
