You didn't mention the 260 years of peace period of Edo Shogunate (1603-1867). It wasn't perfect but their achievement was quite remarkable, having created almost an ideal society, according to the words of western visitors to Japan in the middle of 19century.

I'll be releasing an episode on Tokugawa Ieyasu indepth soon, since he is the one paved the period. But haven't planned on creating an actual episode on the Edo period itself. There's a few more videos looks interesting to explore. If you have any recommendations, do tell!

It was peaceful because it was a totalitarian police state, that's like saying North Korea is peaceful

It seems the Japanese Emperor was something akin to the pre-Reformation Pope. A European king or Emperor has the armies, but the Pope still held power over the monarchs and was seen as the spiritual leader of the people.

Ironically it was the time of the Sengoku era where the power of the Emperor was at the lowest.

If you look at it from a Japanese eyes, the illustrations that appear along the way are random. What country's customs are these? This will make Hiroyuki Sanada angry.

some of the images are from AI, they don't know the difference, even if you write a whole paragraph of what to do and what not to do. the thumbnail shows that both of them don't know how to carry the sword, and i can't fix it. but thanks for pointing it out! I try to provide lots of illustration since i can't hire actors and don't have big budget to do so. but like and maybe one day!

日本の征夷大将軍は天皇によって任命された 今も日本の首相は天皇に任命される 中世以降の天皇は権力の正当性の認証装置として機能した 西欧のローマ法王に近い Shogun were appointed by the Emperor. The Prime Minister of Japan is still appointed by the Emperor. Since the Middle Ages, the Emperor functioned as a certifying device for the legitimacy of power. Similar to the Pope of Western Europe

Wherent there several shoguns? They where like generals of sort. So the power comparison is a bit stupid, they actualy derived their power from the emperor.
@haroldcruz8550
@haroldcruz8550 5 дней назад
Shoguns are more like Kings. No they don't derive their power from the Emperor, ther was even a time where the Emperor was directly under the thumb of a shogun. But like the video said, the Emperor is the soul of the nation, killing or imprisoning the Emperor is akin to killing or imprisoning the Pope in 15th century Europe.
