WHY SHOULD YOU EXTEND YOUR TRAILER?
Sometimes you need to get your boat farther into the water to launch your boat. Water levels at boat launches fluctuate causing problems. A subscriber saw on the web how to extended his trailer and place the boat trailer farther into the water. Watch what he does and how he did it so you can decide why you should do it yourself too.

Excellent 💡 idea. I'm going to craft this for my jetski trailer. I live on a beach and have access to the water, but have to drive 30 minutes away to the closest ramp. This will allow me to put and/remove my ski from the water within going to into too soft a sand. Thank you for sharing.

Freedom Electric should have already caught this issue and worked with the trailer manufacturer to remedy the problem? Yet they still promote to their customers to purchase this trailer. They could make the trailer a little longer and a little wider so the TT could be dropped down between the fenders allowing the TT to enter the water sooner and control better when backing it up. I have been really disappointed in the setup of this trailer, it has taken a lot of the enjoyment away from owning the TT.

Tim, The generic trailer is shipped to you in a box and is manufactured by a company other than Freedom Electric. It must fit in a shipping box and is not a custom trailer just for the Twin Troller. That trailer is sold by that company to fit many boats. A custom trailer for the Twin Troller would be much more expensive. I did not opt to get a trailer from another source. I would have preferred a different setup on the trailer but I bought the package and this is what came with it, but we all hear what you are saying. Gerry

Hey Gerry, Opened the link provided by a couple of folks for an extension. When I’m able, I’ll purchase the extension from Smith. Hope this will help get the TT far enough in the water to launch easier and in controlling better when backing. Like I said, its been a pain where I’ve been launching. I would have paid on the front end for a trailer that was set up correctly. Thanks, love my TT though.

Pros and cons to everything. I thought about an extension myself but just settled with climbing in the back of my truck (8' box) and pushing the TT off with my 2×6 board. The TT is attached to 25' of rope. I suppose once the Spring Chicken leaves my body I'll have to come up with another plan.

John, there are many ways to launch the boat and climbing down the bed of a truck is one that works. I find it easiest to just wade in the water but in Florida I can do that year round. I know others do not have the weather to do that. For some, launching a boat is lots of work up north because by the time they cut a hole in the ice large enough to launch the TT they are too tired to fish! Gerry

Jim, funny you say that. Even when I fished out of a kayak I wore the crocks. More than once I have slipped when entering the boat ramp entering the water due to slime on the bottom. So far I never went under but was close once. Now I walk slowly into the water, hanging onto the vehicle, shuffling my feet, until I can grab onto the boat and trailer. I also took a Dremmel tool and made the grooves on the bottom of the crocks deeper. It works for me but I appreciate your warning! Gerry

Gerry, really liked Jim"s extended trailer pic.s on your latest video. I also live in the Wichita KS area "Derby" really would like to meet or converse with Jim about our twin troller's and fishing, fishing spots and so-forth. Any way to connect the two of us up via Facebook or E-mail? You and I have converse about our TT's on several occasions on quick lift dolly, rod holders and other things. I agree on many of the points brought up today about the trailer but like Gerry stated it is a universal trailer and even with the minor issues it works for me. I am an expert on the cold water here in Northern Michigan. When I put my new TT in the water for the first time it was June 5, 2019 and the water was to cold to stand in. I have a solution to this problem by wearing 18 inch rubber boots that just slip on and off. These work great if I don't step in 19 inches of water. Hopefully Jim when you get your trailer extension the way you want it you might get a patent on it. And Gerry the only way this old man would put his TT on the ice would be if you came up with a way to attach a wind sail to it. Think mine will sleep through winter all tucked in my dry little barn.

Another ingenious idea. My truck sits quit high so I am able to back far enough in and a couple of hard brakes in reverse and my tt slides off. I have a couple of friends that are excellent welders and have talked to them about tongue extension so I'll see. Thanks again Gerry.

@@LunkerFishing I have not but 2 or 2 1/2' I think would do it. I don't want to cause sway issues. The issue for me is loading as far as getting wet. With a cple xtra feet I could mount a platform to step down on from the bed of my truck. I intend on doing something this winter and if I do I will document it and share it with you.

The trailer that is sold with the Twin Troller is from CE Smith. CE Smith does offer a 90" extra long tongue for this trailer, part number 30117-PGP (store.cesmith.com/trailer-tongue-extra-long-90-p508.aspx).

I'm fortunate to have a truck step that helps me to get onto the trailer and use Trailer Walkway Platform plates to make it an easier walk onto the trailer. I bought that truck used and would never have paid for what I thought a sissy add on, but it has been invaluable getting onto trailers and staying dry. I've found that you only need to get the boat even with the bottom of the rails to winch it back into place. Granted you need to have some balance to manage to stay dry making that walk, though additional plates make that easier. I have a total of three plates from tongue back on my trailer.

What type of boat is that?

Tuan, That boat is a small two man fishing boat that has two means of propulsion. One method uses battery power to operate two electric trolling motors that are located in recessed chambers under the boat. Each trolling motor is operated by twin foot controls, one pedal for each motor. That allows you to have hands free operation of the boat so you can fish more easily. The second optional method of propulsion is a small gas motor on the rear or transom of the boat. If you go to freedomelectricmarine.com you can see more information on the Twin Troller X10. Gerry
