I know what you are saying about a rectangular outlet with an A running into a B for a B gooseneck. But it just looks odd compared to matching Bs for a B gooseneck.
I am a DYIer south of you in Dickinson, Tx. The box stores are terrible with their gutter sections and even worse online...they don't sell all the components for a 6" system and don't even sell 4x5 downspouts. What can a DYIer do? I dig your vids and thank you for the info - who can a go to for a supplier?
Thank you for your kind statements. Box stores don't carry the components, but ABC SUPPLY or SENOX does. All you need is a DBA. Think of it as buying one time at Costco. Pay for your DBA (like $45) and you'll be able to get everything you'll need.
Honestly, every house should have 6-inch gutters with minimum 3x4 downspouts. As a roofer, we come more rotten fascia and decking with 5-inch gutters at the perimeter of the roof.
Using any outlet is a sales tactic… cutting an x and bending the tabs down gives you a built in attachment point for the downspouts… I agree 6” gutters are better even on a dog house. The price pre coved use to be only a one dollar per foot difference between 5 and 6” gutters…. Here in ky. Pre coved I was installing 5” and 6” gutters for. 4 and 5 dollars per foot and a standard downspout with 3 elbows was 45 $.
Outlets are not a sales tactic for us but the right design approach. I would say it's better to use the proper outlet for the correct size downspout. If you have a rectangle downspout, then use a rectangle outlet (slightly modified) to get the total capacity of the downspout. The outdated 4-Tab outlets are a custom cut that (saved money) but compromised the integrity of the gutter (causing tears and leaks in the thin channel), hence why it's a common practice to use outlets.

I’m in southern Cali and the trees I had are gone. I’m curious if leaf guards is still a must for a second story just cause I won’t be cleaning them. Also if I don’t have drain outlets to the street. Would it still be best to take the advice given here to run the 6”K system with the 4”x5” downspouts. With the upper system draining into the lower system be good to avoid downspouts in the front of the house?
You should not drain a larger downspout into a smaller downspout. If a 4x5 d/s is on top draining to a lower roof - you should always use a 4x5 on the bottom. Give me a call to discuss. For gutter protection (screens) I recommend on every system. Black Powder-coated Steel Small-Hole Screen from Senox Corp. helps to Reinforce the system giving it a longer lifespan. Installed correctly, these covers will not collapse nor can they be pulled up by critters. All the water gets in. An open gutter is just a trash can on your roof; turning into a Petri dish above your head. These screens eliminate birds from nesting inside the gutter or wasp/bees from nesting inside the gutter.
