He wasn't coming back either way. I don't see them getting rid of Jay. @Sam What exactly do you think im referring to when i say "what they did to Joey"?
@jareddoran6605
@jareddoran6605 3 года назад
@Sam by your logic, The Ghost Inside had to let Andrew Tkaczyk go because he lost his leg, and Def Leppard had to let Rick Allen go because he lost his arm. But guess what, neither of them did. They gave their drummers the time they needed to relearn how to play drums after their injuries, because they truly considered them "brothers". Meanwhile, Joey got transverse myelitis, and Slipknot kicked Joey out immediately after, because they didn't want to lose any money from touring, and replaced him with the cheapest pop punk drummer they could find. But of course, Slipknot members can do no wrong in your eyes
@jareddoran6605
@jareddoran6605 3 года назад
@Sam you should probably do more research on the band you're defending, considering Max is Bruce Springsteen's drummer (who is arguably very good), and it's his son Jay (who has never played anything outside of the simplicity that is pop punk) who drums for Slipknot. And I ask you again, why didn't Def Leppard kick Rick Allen out, and why didn't The Ghost Inside kick Andrew Tkaczyk out? Even if Joey was on drugs, kicking him out was a very douchey thing to do, as every single one of them has done their fair share of drugs, and they have the audacity to refer to each other as "brothers"
@hugolafhugolaf
@hugolafhugolaf 3 года назад
@@jareddoran6605 You raise a good point. However, it is my understanding that when they fired him, he hadn't gotten the diagnosis, so, since it's fair to assume that HE WAS doing drugs (they all were, let's not kid ourselves, you're entirely right), they concluded that his dip in form was because of that, not because of some not-yet-diagnosed condition. It still was a douchey move. The douchiest move, though, was not letting him back once they realized their mistake and that they had actually fired a founding member for, well, being sick.

When I heard the news about Joey being fired by e-mail, I stopped listening and supporting the band. You can't just fire someone like Joey who put his heart to the group. He was not only the drummer, but also a composer, a writer and one of the funding members. He is also the person who sketched the iconic logo, the tribal S. He really believed in the project and gave 100% of his dedication to it. I still have no clue what "The Gray Chapter" or the other album I don't even know the title of sound like. I wish things went differently. Joey is no longer with us and this makes me a bit sadder every day that passes. He didn't deserve to be fired from Slipknot, he didn't deserve to die so young and with such a horrible desease. Dear Joey, the metal community is mourning your loss. @@Meansnare I heard them. They are good albums. But they are not good slipknot albums. Paul and Joey were two of the three original members of the band. Joey wrote a lot of lyrics especially for the first album. He did most of artwork and the logos that they still have today. He even wrote guitar parts and so did Paul. Slipknot was originally their project. After that foundational chunk was taken out (not just the skill but the ideas too) it just became the Corey and clown show. Some of the songs are good metal and rock songs and most beat out anything on the radio. But it's not slipknot
@jareddoran6605

@@korihayes3477 very true. Corey is so egotistical it's sad. He is pretty much the epitome of everyone I hated in high school (the cool guy that everyone worships, and the school is willing to bend rules to benefit him, and you're the dork if he rubs you the wrong way). And while Clown originally got everyone together, the band wouldn't have gone anywhere without Paul and Joey, because in all honesty, Clown isn't all that talented. Chris definitely brought rhythm and intricacy into the percussion world of Slipknot, and they replaced him with a guy who comes across like he's never hit a drum before. Then they replaced Joey with a guy who's never played anything outside of pop punk, and make him out to be god's gift to the earth. @@ONshowON "the original band died years ago" Exactly this. "We are the Nine. There is no one else. If I left the band, we'd be done. If Joey Jordison left this band, we'd be done." - Shawn Crahan (from an old Metal Hammer interview) The band went from saying this to what they currently are. It's a joke.

@@theCrownofSympathy that interview was 15 years ago. It’s not like Shawn really thought one of em Would die, they prolly realized they don’t Want to give up slipknot just to “preserve the original band” because they still wanted to make music and tour for their STILL growing fanbase. That doesn’t make them fake in my eyes. In 2010 when Paul died I was terrified that they would end cause I only just became a fan like 3-4 years prior to that

This was one of the most heartbreaking departures I've ever known in my life, and it's worsened by the knowledge that he died wishing to be part of what he created once again. I think Jay is an excellent drummer, but nothing will ever be the same without Joey. Paul Gray's death was the beginning of the end, neither Slipknot nor the fans have fully recovered from that loss. Joey took it the hardest of everyone if you ask me, and nobody does (lol).

The reality is that Joey made a lot of SlipKnoT's character. - It doesn't matter how good the replacement is. Jay could be a much better drummer than Joey on a technical level, and there's nothing wrong with enjoying his performances. - But Joey's character is just missing, much like David Silveria's (also replaced by a great talent) is missing with KoRn, or Travis Smith's is missing from TriViuM. - That's just my experience with these bands... And to be fair, I'm quite nitpicky because I'm a musician. But yea... The artists are the artists and you can often not just replace them entirely or properly.

I've been following Slipknot since 97 I tell you what the way they treated Paul's wife and not helping him recover because they clearly could have financed his treatment and basically told her it was her problem and his problem kind of rubbed me the wrong way. And then many years later just assuming Joey was doing drugs or whatever but the truth was obviously his bone disease or whatever the issue was had nothing to do with drugs. And then later on in his life probably due to losing the spotlight of being in one of the biggest bands in the world he turned into a major alcoholic and passed away.

Honestly in my opinion I believe that Joey will return because Jay has been with Slipknot for almost a decade and still isn’t an official member, especially V-Man. Yes, I am a fan of Jay Weinberg and I’m not trying to diss on him, but I feel like that it’s going to be a while until they ACTUALLY make him an official member of the band with Joey’s number. Who knows? If Joey gets himself back into shape and meets up with the original members and talk about a possible return I’m going to be happy for him and if they decide to already make Jay an official member then I’ll still be happy for him.
