@tgs9740 welllll.... maybe not. Politicians get people to vote not only for liars but against their own best interests all the time. Look at the middle and lower middle class voters in the States who vote to give tax breaks to the wealthy and and cuts to health programs all the time.

Media called the current government that is pro-russian, because it said that it will not support the Ukraine from it's armys weapon stockpiles. If I remember correctly this is what they said. I wouldn't call it pro-russian.
Most people are against the war. That being said, Putin won't stop until Russia stops him. Russia won't do that until the reality of the cost of the war is fully seen. Bummer. So unnecessary. So stupid.
No. War happens when one party wants your stuff, and you do not want them to have your stuff. War is a matter of taking that which is not yours to take. Defensive war is about preventing, or attempting to stop the seizing of your stuff. Racketeering, and other questionable antics happens during wars as people who wish to profit in excess will take measures to secure increased profits for their own self interest, as attention is elsewhere and more focused on more pressing matters than a bit of palm greasing that takes place.
As a Slovak, I can say I was and I am still deeply disappointed after the elections. The rhetoric our future president Pellegrini - Fico's (prime minister's) servant - used was utterly hypocritical and also unfair towards his opponent Korčok, whom Pellegrini called a "warmonger" who would send our boys to fight in Ukraine (even in the campaign leaflets). Of course, Korčok has never said it . Pellegrini lied all the time - what a disgrace!
Politicians playing both sides. So long as Ukraine gets the artillery that's cool by me. But would be better if Slovakia came clean and say they support Ukraine.
Yes, unfortunately politics is getting dirtier and more corrupt all the time, in no small part thanks to Russian efforts to finance the most corrupt parties and this new trend of Adolf H -type politicians.
Of course, it was just at the behest of the Soviets to further Soviet interests using Soviet engineering and would be required to back the Soviets during a military engagement. Oh and the USSR could shut it down through their Soviet installed state at any point. There is a distinction but it's not going to appear in a short 😂.

Lot of people in eastern Europe dont like Ukraine since they were part of the Soviet union. Lots of bad blood between slavic nationalists. Many poles also dont like Ukraine but their government is more pragmatic.

Tax funded aid to Ukraine for a country that borders Ukraine is an act of self defence. If Russia is allowed to take Ukraine, Eastern Europe is next - including Slovakia.

Ukraine territory is a whopping 603,628 square kilometers (233,062 sq mi), Russia at one point occupied a total of 161,000 km2 (62,000 sq mi) or almost 27% of Ukraine's territory and some has been librated so now we are down to 119,000 km2 What really gets me is that some ppl. are now saying why does Ukraine not just let Russia have the areas /land it’s just a small part of Ukraine anyway..... A small part of Ukraine ...WE ARE taking about a land mass is 119,000 km2 In EU terms thats the size of Belgium, Holland, luxembourg all put together.. In UK terms that the size of all of Scotland and 80% of England all put together !! In US terms is the size of South Carolina, West Virginia all put together !! Why the f. should Ukraine give Russia all that land for what? TO ONLY be invaded some years later when Russia as had a brake and regrouped ,rebuilt its army and fortified positions !! I SAY RUSSIA GETS TO TAKE LAND AND DEMAND UKRAINE CAN NOT JOIN NATO IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL !! Nobody wants to be a "buffer country". There have been nonstop negotiations, but all russia ever comes to the table with is a list of demands with no concessions, and any deal it has proposed would only have left Ukraine even more defenceless. Add onto that the fact that russia breaks any treaties it makes (including the infamous Minsk agreements), and there's no peace through negotiations to be had.

Ridiculous, those arm companies are private and government doesn't pay for weapons for Ukraine. Arms profits are high in Europe and the US because there is generally high demand.

They said that they did not send weapons to Ukraine that are owned by the state (in fact, there are no weapons left by the previous government) Construct defense and ZVS Holding are private companies. And you are wrong about one more thing. The current government and president are not for Russians. They are for Europeans, but they know that war is not a solution and that without the cooperation of the EU and Russia, the economy will decline.

Im Czech, so I dare to say I know Slovaks relatively good, and they are one complicated bunch. The problem with Slovakia is that unlike 99% of Europe, there was no "incarnation" of the Slovak state between +- 9th century and 1918. After being Hungarian for 1000 years, they became secondary Czechs, they repeatedly tried to distance themselves from Czechs, trying to figure out their identity and gain some kind of independence. Unlike Czechs (and others), they have basically nothing to anchor their identity and history with. Also, they have always been culturally significantly more east-based, much more religious + conservative and generally less developed than Czechs as a country. Put it all together in a world where they get bombarded with fake news and what you get is a lot of angry people who respond to the whole "Russia defending christian values and Slavic peoples" nonsense more than some others do.
