Why Some Poppy Playtime Toys Can't Speak

I honestly think that some toys were designed to have the ability to speak while others weren't. Toys like Huggy, Kissy, Boxyboo and others were probably for manual labour and security and therefore the need to speak is unecessary. Toys like Catnap and Mommy Long Legs DO have the ability to speak since they have to interact with other people often. Mommy talks to the kids and we know that all of the Bigger Body Smiling Criters would interact with the kids in Playcare too, hence why they have a voice. Also, it kind of makes Catnap a lot creepier since he does have the ability to speak, but instead chooses to remain silent. Some toys are given a voice box and some are not. We know that some toys do have real, biological vocal chords since we hear Huggy and Kissy and Boxy screech and make animalistic noises, but they weren't give a voicebox to speak with. They also don't have tongues which I imagine makes speaking pretty difficult. However, toys that CAN speak like Catnap and Mommy clearly have some kind of voicebox. We can hear that Mommy's voicebox kind of breaks a little bit whenever she goes into a violent frenzy and lowers in pitch and we can hear it straight-up stop working when she dies. We also know Catnap has one of these too since Laith Pierre in a chapter 3 tape asks if Catnap's "voice thingy" is still broken. We also hear that the Prototype's voice box is likely much more advanced since it can mimick different voices and we hear it change in the middle of sentences, suggesting that all the voices we do hear from toys are completely artificial. We can also see Poppy has a voicebox of her own too. But, more interestingly, she appears to have working lips and probably a working tongue. So maybe she talks with real vocal chords as well. Who knows. So... I honestly think that's the simplest answer that makes the most sense. Some can speak by design with voiceboxes while others can't speak since they don't really need to for their intended role in the factory. They might screech and growl, but they don't really have the ability to properly speak.

I always thought all the toys from the Bigger Body experiment are given a voice box since they were around the children the most. When it comes to Huggy and Kissy they were also meant to be security which is why they have a voice box. They are capable of screaming which will scare off any trespassers. We don't know if they can talk until Kissy (if she's alive) says something to us. As for the Prototype we don't know what he actually looked like in the beginning for all we know he could be a toy or exoskeleton capable of removing parts of his body. Because he can't move he sends his arm out to do his dirty work.

5:13 Tom and Jerry don’t speak because the cartoon focused on their slapstick violence, and dialogue would ultimately ruin that aspect. I know it’s irrelevant to the video, but it’s worth noting. Plus when they were created, kids were probably in bed because Tom and Jerry released at late hours of the day in theaters.

Good theories they always make sense

This is a bit off-topic, but, Poppy theory, I have a theory myself that I'd like you to hear: I think Huggy Wuggy was- and still is- in Prototype's cult. And I have four reasons to think so: 1. In the Sleep Well MV, there is one scene where Catnap is sitting down on the PlayCare floor (Come along down with me-You're not alone, you will see), other toys join him, symbolising toys joining the cult. Among them is: the other Critters (but they probably left), PJ Pugapillar, Boxy Boo, Boogie Bot, Kissy Missy (who probably left) etc...and Huggy. So he WAS, at least at some point, in the cult. 2. The wall murals in Ch. 3 contain characters like Mommy, Huggy, Boxy, and DogDay. However, several of them-most of them-have their faces scratched out, mostly likely by Catnap. I said most of them, because there is one character that didnt have his face scratched out. Now why would Catnap scratch out Mommy, DogDay and Boxy but not Huggy? I think Mommy is a heretic and scared of 1006, and DogDay IS a heretic, confirmed. Boxy may have left the cult at some point. But Huggy? It seems like Catnap wants to keep him close...because he is in the cult. 3. Huggy seems to do 1006's bidding, cos if that voice in PJPT WAS 1006, Huggy seems to be his OBEDIENT FOLLOWER. Like maybe a CULT follower? 4. This is probably the most incoherent clue, but remember that one death screen in Ch 1 which everyone went mad over? "Experiemnt 1006, isnt he wonderful?" This seems like a stretch, but I think HUGGY said that to us (although I do know this video here is regarding whether he can talk or not). Almost like he hero-worships the Prototype

Hey Theory, I have a thought about the image of the 4 children at 9:09 ... The boy on the left has huggy wuggy on his shirt, the girl on the right holds her arm like kissy missy, so the girl with the white shirt could be mommy longlegs because of her height, and that would leave the other boy to be catnap. 4 kids for all 4 "bigger bodies" so far. What do you think?

The other thing you can say about the prototype is that the scientists wanted him to talk or more as they wanted him to have the option to. I’m assuming for him to give them feedback or information that they might have missed or not known. Unlike Huggy, they never could get enough of the prototype.

THSI IS INSANE IVE BEEN A FAN OF POPPY PLAYTIME FOR YEARS AND IFE NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS W VID BRO

One thing I've noticed is that after you get purposefully jumpscared by CatNap (the jumpscare before you get the poppy monologue hallucination), He says "Leave PlayCare or I'm coming for you." Pretty normal for a spooky villain. But i realized that CatNap said that through Ollies phone, since it rings right before we pick it up and he says that. Maybe there's more than one line, or perhaps he just took over ollies line, but theres just something that doesn't sit right with thise possibilities. As skeptical as it is already to believe that there IS still a working phone line after all these years, there being multiple could be possible, but doesn't feel right. And if CatNap took over Ollies phone line somewhere else, I think he'd have said something about it. So, what I'm saying is, I'm not too sure of the "Ollie is the Prototype" theory, but that does seem to be some substantial evidence towards it. Or maybe im overthinking it, who knows lol

To me the real mystery isn’t that some toys talk and others dont but rather by what means?Apparently a “larynx” the things we use to speak, by definition it can be referred to as a “voice box”. Yet catnaps voice thingy is broken but that isn’t a clue if it’s his real voice that was impacted or an artificial toy box. Also Bronx is interesting to me because the subject we know about had “lung cancer” so wouldn’t they give him a voice box? Since his cancer would impact his real one? Yet the toys destroyed his throat area. So what actually became of the voice box? It’s like we are being given clues on the voices for awhile now. This is the first I’ve said this here but we assume the toys have electronic or artificial voice boxes due to poppy’s vhs. However if poppy is both an older toy and a dead person brought back to life, then poppy might not have a voice to begin with. Whereas all newer toys are using living children’s and adults anatomy to exist. Also maybe the prototype is Ludwig’s child that was 30 years old? Idk wasn’t he divorced around when he started the company but the death was 1960 or so? Maybe the prototype is the one not life the rest because it’s from a dead person, not dying or transferred. Also Tom and Jerry talk in the movie and I actually own the vhs of that one lol

I have a theory....The toys that cannot speak have the ability of stealth and when still just like Ms. Delight, people would always assume that they are just huge toys or mascots until they attack. Think about this...They are all oprhans and former employees so knowing that they were selective in who could speak. My thought Huggy Wuggy, Kissy Missy, and other who don't speak were still fully aware of who they were. They didn't want the secret out that they were using humans for experimentation. Poppy was made during a time when they could control whether she spoke or not ( The voice box) but after figuring out a way to insert vocal cords and brain fumction, there was no longer a need for the vooce boxes except for the cardboard cutouts and the toys sold on the market.

And what if the ability to talk is also related to their age when they got transferred into the bigger body? Maybe the older children were able to adapt to the voice box while the younger ones became more animalistic and silent

I personally think Kissy has PTSD. What if The Hour of Joy traumatized her? She helped us in Chapter 2, but in Chapter 3, until Poppy stopped her, she was ready to attack us. It would seem that Poppy and Kissy are best friends, and maybe they knew each other before being turned into toys. Either way, her seeming to have PTSD makes her possible death at the end of Chapter 3 all the more sad as I've grown fond of Kissy. If Huggy was used for security, what if that's partly why he doesn't talk as for the most part, those who handle security only interact with those they answer to? The Smiling Critters talking makes sense since they were there to bring smiles to children, and probably offer them advice on how to deal with life. Of course as you said, Mommy talking makes sense because she was like a mother for the children. Also PJ sounds like Scooby-Doo to me. Man I love the way this game really makes us think about things! It's refreshing to have a real story and lore behind a game compared to some games out there.

Next theory: who is the prototype

I have another theory to add to the ones you presented. When you listen to the cardboard cutout voice lines, they are very dark in tone after the second line. Why I say second line is because if you listen to the voices of the smiling critters on the statue, only their first line from the cardboard cutouts are there. I think that the cardboard cutouts represent the time before they were created into toys, their dark thoughts being presented when they are converted, and when they scream, their voice boxes are taken away. Almost like their voices are being cut short only when opinions towards the prototype are presented. Add this to when DogDay screams for longer because he directly says that we the player need to leave. That's why he's punished the hardest.

Theres 2 things to debunk the thumbnail- 1. Mommy infact speaks ingame, as in chapter 2 when she takes your red hand, completing the bunzo bunny game and starting it. Etc. Huggy is not fully silent, while he may not have spoken in the game, his cardboard cutouts have actual voices, and they're pretty accurate to what most of the fandom would think he sounds like, as what huggy was intended matches it - a goofy, silly and loving character that hugs you as according to the name and his jumpscare animations. If you want to see it Tetrabit has shown unused animations of it. Meaning there WAS a possibility huggy would have a bigger role voice-wise. And so does kissy, she has the same case as Huggy, silent ingame but her cardboad cutouts have a voice. I do think the voices for them were scrapped, but kept the cutouts since they fit the factory. Bunzo also has a voice in his cutouts, and so does many other characters (Catbee, candycat and Bron.) I am not sure, but i reconsider seeing a catnap cutout that had a voice like the other smiling critters have, yet i cant recall his voice in it. Though i guess since hes not really a smiling critter/on their side (as you said in one of your videos) it'd make sense he would have no voice or have a cutout like them. Also, the prototype is likely to be just what we know he looks like - an arm. We have no idea and its very unlikely there is even a model or an idea of what hes like. But that begs a question in my head. If that arms name is prototype, could it be that theres another arm there thats good? I mean, a better example is Glamrock Freddys case. where his evil self is a prototype, and hes truly just good. Could it be that theres a chance Something similar will appear in chapter 4? And since the prototyoe can have any voice he hears, that means so does that other one, meaning it could talk to us that way. Its an unlikely theory, but just wanted to know if theres anyonw out there having proof its likely.

I think it is because like he said, some of the toys fed the orphans negative thoughts. Since huggy tried to escape, the staff thought that they could remove his voice box so he can’t communicate with the Prototype. But characters like Mommy Longlegs had to speak to guide the orphans throughout the game station. But Theory, can you make a theory about what the prototype might be planning in chapter four

my theory is that some of these toys were made from children or literal babies who were so young that they didnt even have time to learn how to talk before becoming a bigger body. its like that situation where a kid is raised by feral animals like wolves and cant speak because they were never taught to

There is a chance that Boxy Boo won't end up in the series, alongside Huggy Wuggy, because they're in the throne. However, i don't believe that's the case. Because you can also see PJ, and compared to Huggy and Boxy, PJ is way bigger, meaning that these could just be toys rather the Bigger Bodies.

My belief is similar to one theory that Superhorrorbro had with BATIM creatures and the characters appearances. But instead here, it boils down to something else. That which stems to the people’s chances of either having their humanity while they were alive, become a mindless killing toy, or they could be in the middle. Though this is my thoughts on why the toys are the way they are.

It is confirmed that some went wrong in terms of voices in the book it says the first smiling critter to be made into a bigger body was Bobby bear hug and she couldn’t make noise/talk even though she was intended to be able to and bobby herself tried to talk even Though she didnt realise she wasn't making any noise

I have a theory It is that huggy wuggy, our first encounter, was actually prototype in the body of huggy wuggy The firat reason i think this is because he has 2 sets of teeth The second reason that huggy quggy wasn't able to talk because prototype lacks a voice box and is not like the others, Possibly, in chapter 2, the place where we find huggy's fur on the walls, is the place where prototype managed to grab on to the vent and the body of huggy fell deeper or later abandoned the body of huggy because it was just too damaged and not usable anymore And thay is why he is trying to collect pieces of others corpses using us and building himself a new body I dont really know how true this can be and hiw can this help but i feel good after sharing it

My Theory: Prototype originally had just one voice, but as we know that due to it's intelligence and ability to make other toys a part of itself, I theorize that in real Prototype took the voice boxes of some of the toys, like Huggy Wuggy and Kissy Missy, as we know Kissy Missy was once in control of the Prototype and wrecked a genocide in the Hour of Joy, and Huggy undoubtedly is loyal to the Experiment 1006, and that's why I think that mimicking voice isn't an ability the Playtime Co. gave the Prototype but rather it improved overtime, just like it killed Catnap, took it and probably now Catnap will be a part of the Prototype's whole body with Huggy Wuggy and Mommy Longlegs included in that monstrous fusion!
