@@vcam-g9h Helldivers attracted a more traditional audience that doesn't just play one game forever. They enjoyed it a lot for a few months and then moved on, at least for now. That's what I did. It's the best selling game of the year on a modest budget and it's the fastest selling Sony game ever so I think that's good enough. lol

It's weird they tried to summarize it as just better tools when almost every pipeline in the PS5 system is just more efficient and has the right optimization DF was trumpeting the raw tf performance of the series x for years but ignoring the split ram pool which has 40 percent of it's ram on a slower interface, and then when their non main hosts started benchmarking it was undeniable the series x constantly had more stuttering issues, one of the worst offenders was cod streaming between areas even within the same level And even just to point out, even pre-release of PS5 developers were constantly saying they were surprised how powerful the PS5 was and were saying it was more powerful than the Series X... and it was youtubers like DF who didn't believe them, even more popular RU-vidrs like Linus (but Linus is a full scam artist so he should be ignored at all times anyway), channels like DF always depend on this "they just have to learn the system" when studios absolutely do not spend time doing this anymore, it simply takes way more time to develop games, they aren't going to go out of their way to optimize specific systems anymore whether it is consoles or PC, they are far, far more spending time making content now, not the specific system optimizations If a game is using less than 10 gb ram so it's only on purely the faster ram like halo mcc then series x is perfect but anything trying to use more than that is a bad idea because of the split pool, so it's the newer games which struggle on series x the most DF was also one of the biggest channels to try to say series s would not hamstring the generation for Xbox when it is very clear it does so The tools part is just ironic bc df like every else assumed Sony has worse software "because Microsoft is a software company" not understanding Microsoft is an enterprise software company not a consumer one, they have sidelined Xbox so much it's not even funny anymore and you can feel like while using a modern Xbox today I now own a series x and 2 actually for system link purposes and even just using the system the UI is terrible and you can feel the windows like stuttering in the system and the menus are even all the same settings options as a windows 10 or 11 machine it is literally windows dressed up as a console and 360 never felt like that even, never owned an Xbone so I didn't realize how bad it got with their console ui last thing phil spencer and DF mutually leaned into heavily was the RDNA2.5/RDNA3 features (i forget which was new at the time) unreleased on PC.... and one big one was having a newer pipeline, and also VRS or variable rate shading, but it never sounded performance beneficial to me even at the time, and now the review of VRS/variable rate shading because it is at the end of the rendering pipeline it's really barely saving any performance at all, i dont even know any of my PC games running on my 4090 which would benefit from such a thing at all, phil spencer of all people leaned in the most and assumed his "generational win" on the basis of the higher TF count (revealed in the microsoft leaks during the UK court decision to buy ActiBlizz).... everything about the Series X was just advertising and fakeouts, while other companies like Sony do the hard work behind the scenes to actually make the optimizations which make a difference (kraken decompression, unified speed system RAM, GPU boost modes to capture frame dips before they happen, etc)
There is no "hamstringing" a generation since ALL of said xbox games are going to PC at the same time. You know, the other DirectX dependent machine that also has wildly varying specs, from 980ti's to 4090's. Games SHOULD BE ABLE to be ran on older cards like that, and older specs like the series s, but even 2000 series and the best CPU struggles in games where they really shouldn't be, due to horrible CPU optimization by most devs (Elden Ring is a notorious one). There is no hamstringing with lower hardware when that's always existed thanks to the PC market, it's always been devs not optimizing their PC settings (which they then flip certain settings on and off for console ports) and CPU utilization with DirectX API properly

I think FreeBSD is just a better OS for lower overhead than a gimped version of Windows that is on the Xbox. It has to be one of the important factors at least.
I play HD2 on PS5. The player drop really occurred after the "need to sign up for PSN" for PC players. Many of my "friends" I met while playing HD2 stopped playing after that and have not returned.
Nearly all friendships are superficial and depend on a shared interest or work/school. If you meet playing mtg, and one quits... the friendship will probably end as well. It's just how people are. Being a good friend doesn't even matter... people want friends with the same intersts.. and that means they will pick a bad friend with a shared interest over a good one with no shared interests.
I’m hoping Astrobot succeeds. Not only could it pave huge things for a huge return of mascot style games. Astrobot had a 3 year dev cycle including proto-typing. Demonstrating insane development efficiency at incredibly low costs. This could be huge for adaptations, since I believe something teased was for Astrobot as well. And speaking of adaptations, if they redo Horizon approach, I hope it's a CGI Show like Arcane or Trigun Stampede. The budget of Arcane was is far lower at $90m, for expressive characters and beautiful animation. I think such a gorgeous world would be better captured in animation. Same with God of War personally. As for Hell Divers 2, not only have we seen the impact of a well received expansion can have on Active player activity of Live Service games like Destiny 2 or FFXIV. If Helldivers 2 gets a substantial expansion or update, such a thing can happen for it as well. Hell, I think a Starship Troopers styled adaptation gets announced for Hell Divers 2, which could very well stimulate player return and volume As for the Bluray drama, it was all misinformation. I can’t see them dumping physical units because there are too many rural territories with inconsistent and poor connectivity. Like you said, maybe that changes by the time of PS7. But they still have to take that into account.

To me it's not about the performance, I wouldn't support Xbox just due to them focusing on an anti consumer rental service , I'm a firm believer in vote with your wallet and these subscription services take that away, while that's the focus I just can't recommend anyone getting an Xbox or supporting that company
No it's not. XBOX is behind in performance. Legit takes game devs longer cause they have to cut stuff to make it work. It's one of the reason we are so behind in development in games

Sony should have Sony Pictures do a big budget Horizon movie. For GoW the Norse games actually showed you don’t necessarily need big budget spectacle, character-driven and well written Kratos storytelling alone can make for a compelling series, they just need the right writers.

I wouldn't call games running at 768p below 60 FPS better, lol. Who even cares about a 2 FPS difference in games between two consoles? Sometimes it's better on PS, and other times it's better on Xbox, but both consoles being trash is the common part. At least they are better than the Switch, which is a complete joke.
I played HD2 almost everyday (not kidding I loved the game) and after the PSN required rule on PC I could see we lost a lot of players. Also, after so many flaws from the devs (bugs and nerfs), I can see they are slowing down the content for the game. So, right now we can feel a lack of content and this results in repetitive missions and nothing to do with the Samples/Medals. I believe the game will survive for many years but they need to focus on fixing a lot of bugs first and adding new content in the meantime.
After doing all the videos crapping on Sony, DF doing this one must have really hurt them, having to acknowledge that Sony built a better machine than their buddies at Microsoft.
This comment section if full of ponies, I have an Asus ROG ally Z1 and I've come to actually appreciate the graphics at a stable 60 FPS let alone 120FPS. These consoles are amazing, akin to a 2070 super, A good bang for the buck, it seems like the PlayStation has the shorter end of the stick due to the RDNA factor, limiting what great uses it might of had for a lack luster ray tracing at the cost of raw performance, unlike the series X with a little more power in the tank to be able to outperform the PlayStation, and a full RDNA developed software, it also comes down to how optimized the game is, and be it as the PlayStation has the vast majority of gamers that aren't serious about their games, which would be the casuals, they have their games well optimized as it seems to be where the vast majority of people seemingly like to play on, hence profit, it only makes sense to leave the Xbox out of that extra bit of polishing that's not worth it for certain developers that are short on time and money, where they won't make such a profit from.
Why do people seem to think a "PS5 Pro" is coming out? That's all I ever see trending on social media, yet I've not seen any official word, or even any evidence of it. Other than people who have an "uncle who works for Sony"... Why would they release a Pro, when they are full into PS6 development, and have announced to expect less AAA games this generation. I don't know about you, but that doesn't make me want a more powerful system. I can already run most games at 60fps, and when games are looking as beautiful as Astro Bot, GOW, Ratchet & Clank, TLOU2, and so on..why would we need anything. I wish we could get a Wipeout anime movie, or TV series. There was so much compelling lore and worldbuilding with that franchise, it would make for something awesome. It could center around a young British woman as the protagonist who is a rookie Feisar pilot. A new Wipeout game for PS5 would be awesome too I hope that Gravity Rush 2 PS5 Remaster rumor is actually true. I would hope Team Asobi would be working on that, alongside Astro Bot

It makes sense for Helldivers 2 to have a big dropoff of players after being so successful, but I also think people neglect to mention that the game is extremely buggy and plagued with balancing issues that haven't been meaningfully addressed. I stopped playing last week because I simply got frustrated. The game needs proper maintenance if it wants to hold onto a loyal playerbase.

It's a funny thing! Because lately you see more and more disillusioned xbox users, asking themselves why the xbox is in decline/ why Sony is doing better. Like the xbox is, on paper, the better gameconsole. And this game-pass thing is also a great financial sacrifice, from xbox, to lure gamers to their platform. The answer is, most likely, that xbox only looks at Sony, just to be better and more than, in every single technical aspect. Yet, they don't go beyond the surface; they just don't have the context Sony has. Xbox/ Microsoft just waves their wallet, buy up some huge game companies, try to bribe players away with their game-pass thing and just assume they can sit back and win this console war. Yet gaming is an emotional thing, at least to most, and gamers pick up on this kind of stuff; if a company only comes from the outside, or if there is also some heart to it. That's why xbox has to make even their exclusives multiplatform now, that is why they had to fire all those people from their newly acquired game companies; otherwise they would even lose more/ too much money. And that is why xbox is in decline and why Sony is doing better. Lets make all this 'imo', just for the record. Microsoft will keep investing in gaming though, because that is the future/ where the most money is at. But with the mojo they currently hold up, they will never beat Sony, or Nintendo. From here it is also understandable, why xbox wants to go all digital, this fast. Next to the money issue obviously, they lost the war against Sony's Blu-Ray. And surely xbox wants to bury that asap. For Sony it would the opposite, I assume... Especially because lately there is also a revival of physical media. Because people see the benefits of it, compared to digital, and also prefer uncensored content. Sony also noticed how players reacted, when they wanted to close down he PS3 store and will react accordingly. Hence most likely the PS6 will be able to play every Playstation platform, if not sooner. Playstation is and stays for the players, right?!
1:51 I got that Aloy figure and it's amazing, the amount of accessories it has is awesome, several faces, hands, and weapons. It's quality isn't awesome, it's like a marvel legends. But the details and articulation is great. I'll grab that Jin Sakai figure, probably it's good too.
My main theory is that due to the low clock speed the SX can't create triangles fast enough to fully utilize its CU's whereas PS5 creates triangles more than fast enough to fully utilize its CU's meaning te SX as a pretty nasty bottleneck there.
Mind if I ask a question because I'm not up to date on the specs of Xbox. Is there anything that can be done about the bottle neck you mentioned for a layman
@@K.J._x8x_MMA For 3d rendering tasks like games there's not much that can be done, for computational tasks the GPU is fine. The design as a whole seems like it was targeting a high flop number first and good game performance second. Essentially the entire world of the game is made by tiny triangles them textures are added on top of this. Making the triangles is not done in the CU's so the clock speed mostly determines how many can be made per second. The issue with the SX is that it can't make these triangles fast enough to fully utilize all of the CU's i.e putting the textures on them. The PS5 actually makes triangles faster than the CU's can handle so it has a bottlekneck there but the CU's are faster due to the higher clock speed and everything else in the GPU is faster. There's also the recent discovery of Sony having a lower level API allowing the devs easier access to the system so they can squeeze more performance out of the console if they want to do that.

Don't get me wrong the tech itself does the job, I just reckon they could shave off some of the CU's saving some precious silicon (what they use to make the chips which has had its fair share of sourcing issues) with 0 or indistinguishable effects to performance. Hopefully they'll be more mindful if they make any future gen consoles.

cerny went straight to talk with the devs while xbox did the 2006 ps3 thing and tried to add the best components to end with a console that has to struggle with their own software, and if that wasn't enough to give devs a headache, they also released a console that is a quarter of the power the bigger console has and you have to make your game run in both consoles with the same content or you can't release your game in their store. lmao
It certainly has the most advanced controller. Both consoles themselves are pretty good. Extra kudos to Sony/ps5 for allowing third party nvme expansion
The scripts from a story based game should be used and faithful to a live movie or series. The production should be painstakingly detailed and recreated including choices of actors and acting of course.
I'm only interested in backwards compatibility when a system first launches, less so after games start arriving targeted for the generation. Four years in, I don't want ps3 games, I want games that push the boundaries of the ps5.

DF could have done a better job trying to explain why PS5 is more often than not faster then X. IMo is the reverse situation of xbox360 and PS3. Clearly Cerny learnt from previos mistakes and PS4 design was akin to xbox360, single and fast memory pool, faster GPU units albeit in less quantities to keep the console cool. Weirdly enough MS team decided to go with a PS3 style design of slower gpu cores (in larger numbers) and even more weird they opted for a split memory config (also similar to what PS3 did) , which is notoriously known to be hard to program form. So, PS4 is lean and easy to program for, while X needs a lot more work to get the right performance due to its highly parallel setup.
Or maybe listen to the talk Mark Cerny did before ps5 released. He explained it but most people were to dumb to get it and were laughing about the SSD, wich wasn't the real point
@@solid_justice5855 Mark Cerny didn't go nearly enough into the detail about the nature itself of porting/developing games. He focused mainly on the console and what it can do. Fortunately we have industry experts who can tell us the exact implications.
Oh no, people who played Helldivers 2 on launch and enjoyed the shit out of it for a good few months are slowing down to probably just playing it once a week. I know when it came out I was playing it almost every day with my mates but as with ANY game that won’t last, it’s unrealistic to expect huge updates every week and other games are coming out/requiring attention. Sick of the “game is dead” narrative.
I would love to see it, hope they can pull it off. It's a huge amount of work considering how unique the architecture of the PS3 is. In many cases a remaster might be a better choice but obviously the lesser celebrated games would never get remasters so this is a great solution for that. I'd love to replay FF13 again on modern PlayStation hardware (not via streaming)
I really hope Astro Bot not only wins GOTY but sells Mario level numbers of around 20-30 million. I want Sony to wake up and realize that we want some of these kinds of games like Astro, and Sly Cooper to return and be just as big of part of Sony's games going forward as they treat GOW, TLOU, Horizon, etc.... these kinds of games is a huge reason why Nintendo is as big as it is. I literally buy every Nintendo console doe Mario/Luigi, Zelda, DK; thats it. Playstation needs that.
I’m not sure how often you get this or at all; but could I pay you to future proof a backwards compatible PS3? I was lucky enough to acquire one for a good price. It works beautifully but using it terrifies me. I’ve called local game stores in my area who offer repairs but none of them can help me.
I dont see them saying anything about a ps5 pro announcement because I don't believe the rumors..but what I do believe the reason why there going back to the tgs this year is because this year in japan is the 30th anniversary of Playstation in japan..

It doesn't change the fact that AMDs GPU business just isn't looking good on the PC. Their collaboration with Microsoft, Sony and AMD isn't helping them at all. I mean Nvidia is completely dragging them across the floor, and if you use Steam as the metric you will see that Nividia is the much more desired hardware, not AMD.
I really hate this whole "games work better on console x or console y" conversation that people always seem to bring up (I remember it as far back as the 360 and PS3). It really does not matter that a game might work better on a different system as all that matters to me is do I enjoy the game. Just because a game plays better on my system does not mean I am having a better time, same as if it runs worse on my system does not mean I am having a worse time. People need to stop worrying about the systems they don't have and just fucking enjoy what they are playing.
Short answer No helldivers will NOT have a comeback They really took a chunk of their playerbase the second they made the decisions they made On top of that, the game is a REAL grind if you dont shill out money and 3/4s of the world are still locked out of the game They lost player trust and the ones that remind are the diehards
