Outside of the lackluster story, and the atrocity known as the Time Eater fight, I really love Sonic Generations. The one Meta Era game (outside of Mania) that I truly enjoy.
@@aymenseyid797 who cares about it when u take a celebrations game that wants to make everything about Sonic the story empty and kinda intresting and It's better than the garbage stories we had for colors and lost world
I played this game For the first time 10 years ago and its still one of my favs the Story the gameplay its a Sonic game i will always go back to Any day its in my top ten for sure 💙
What pushes this game to Masterpiece status for me is the ability to play a ton of music from previous Sonic Games and being able to play them within the stages. Live And Learn, Metal Harbor, Kingdom Valley etc etc etc YES PLEASE!
Being someone who’s usually intrinsically motivated in games, the ranking system never bothered me too much, but I did realize how bad it was after playing Adventure 2 and Unleashed. I find those alternate routes to improve for myself and my own times, but the ranking system of Unleashed gives me more incentive to. Unleashed is hard, and I enjoy that about it.
@@superluigi018 wow that was really fast but anyways what I meant is that the 2d section in these games are way more than the 3d so technically they are 2d games with some 3d section
@@iceman92211 Unleashed’s day stages are more 3D, yes but it’s almost entirely linear quickstep sections. Colors and Generations by comparison, despite being less plentiful, the 3D sections are much larger with a higher emphasis on 3D platforming.
The start of the classic sonic analysis gave me a heart attack, please don't do it again 😅👍 Anyways you did my favourite game justice, even if I don't agree with everything. Great job as always!
Fun Fact: There’s also another thing of content you can do, if you hold the back/select button in the little red collection room, it will drop you down into a golden trophy room to where u can enter codes to get cool 3d models of the characters and stuff (I got the codes by searching them up honestly lol)
you mentioned the game "sonic and leashed" a few times here, and that game isnt that known, so for all of the confused viewers, I'll explain. so sonic and leashed is a sonic game that came out in 2008, in that game Sonic turns into a werewolf, and when he lands on the earth he meets a pink guy and names him "leashed" sonic and leashed then go to greeceland, where they meet an angry ice cream seller, who tells them that tails is actually at the town, so they find tails and fly to spagonia to meet eggmun, but turns out hes been kidnapped, so they go to mazuri, and then leashed finds eggmun, so sonic fights him and sonic and leashed go to the first gaia tem'hul, where they restore the chaos emeral. sonic and leashed then go all around the world to fix the chaos emeralds and bring peace to the world, in the end they go to eggmun lund, where the last temp'hul is, then eggmun awakens dark gaia, and leashed makes a barrier and makes a big robot from the temp'huls, and they fight dark gaia, in the end supra sonic and leashed beat darkened gaia, and restore the planet fully, then leashed says goodbye and sonic runs in the sunrise in the greeceland, with knuckle in the plane flying behind him
while this isn't a part of the main game, the mods definitely make the game worth it on pc. different physics, new levels, and new characters. definitely get this game on pc if you can
9:55 It took me 12 minutes to complete the Wisp Planet and I got I think C or B. I actually hated that stage so much because of the wisps and the platforminy
After 100%ing Sonic Generations on my Xbox360, I have 2 things to say. 1. Great game 2. Getting an S Rank on the Planet Wisp doppleganger race was *pain*
One problem I've found about Generations is the fact that the Cutscenes are noticeably low quality (on Xbox One and up), they have lower framerate than the actual game.
I have to fully disagree with your point of Generations not being the best Boost game, in terms of the Boost 3D it is the king of them all with the best control and level design, if it has to contend with the 2D boost games then it get beaten by Rush Adventure and Colours DS as both of those have much better level design for boost, but Gens is definitely much better than Unleashed Colours and Forces.
my brother and i shared the sams xbox and he said that he plays the modern sonic levels and I play the classic sonoc levels. I have only ever played the classic levels of generations :
you forgot to mention how bad super sonic is classic super sonic is SLOWER than normal classic sonic and don't get me started on modern super sonic (but I still love this game so much)
Sonic Generations is my Favorite Video game ever. Not just a Sonic game, but a Video game period. People often say that the story was lacking, but it worked well. The game wasn’t meant to be focused directly on the story, and the game was more of a cliche fan service sorta deal. The story wasn’t the real key player. It was the idea of running through old zones. This is a Celebration game. So the story worked well as the glue. Not the actual pieces to be held together. And even at that, I think that the Story was still pretty good and the smaller details expanded the story little by little. So, I think the story WAS lacking compared to Unleashed or Colors, but it does hold its own and it could defend itself as a good story. The gameplay is great and the Level Design is phenomenal. the Modern Zones are more Speed oriented, and the classic zones are also about the speed, but implement more platforming and puzzle-like things. Also, the game Devs did a great job at making Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic play really well. The 2D side scroller and the 3D boost work really well in their respective styles. The Level Designers did a great job of taking Modern Zones and Turning them Classic, and taking Classic Zones and making them modern. Now. I love this game and I have had a lot of fun playing it over and over ever since I was around 5 or 6. (I’m 14 now.) But the day I actually beat it for the first time (a year ago... my game broke and I hadn’t played it for years when I was a kid... Had to replace it years later...) I realized the game was shorter than I expected. Only 9 Zones. That’s sad because they had an opportunity to explore more Sonic Games, but they didn’t. But the game still has a lot of replay value. With all of the unlockables and challenges, you can still have a lot of fun playing these small mini-Challenges, Varying in difficulty. Also, the extra bonuses really make this game feel more detailed. Such as holding down select on your controller on the collection room, bringing you down to a secret golden room that you can collect Statues of all of your favorite characters and items. The Extra Art And Music to unlock is fun too. Overall, this game was short, but it was pretty fun to play. I have had so many Memories with this game and it carried me through good and Bad times, but overall, this game is something Very Special to me. Thank you for reading my comment. Have a great day.
Hate to break it to you but Crisis City is not a zone and even if it is, where's Westopolis huh? Where's Megalo Station? If it's going through old zones then tell me why there's three Classic Levels, 1 Adventure Level, 1 Heroes Level, 1 06 Level, 1 Unleashed Level and 1 Colors Level? There's games missing and why is 06 the only "bad" game they use and not Shadow The Hedgehog? Doesn't make any sense and it's not a Celebration Game, they're leaving out other games and people will believe the Levels in Generations are it.
You actually missed the biggest point of gen being a gateway game for the rest of the series. I’ll illustrate this with a personal story. My first exposure to the series was like many others: Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. My stepbro would bring over his gamecube and despite how bad I was I fell in love with the game however the gamecube became lost and with it, my favorite game. Many years, a ps3, a 3DS and sonic gen demo plays later and I finally get the full game, I wasn’t as well versed in the games then and I don’t know where all the stages come from, all except two: City Escape and Green Hill. So when I finally beat the game (Crisis City kicked my ass back then) and saw those credits and it told me where each of the stages came from. And that inspired me to seek out the other games and those original stages. That led me to discover the series at large. That is the best part about this game.
Tl:dr The stages in this game compel the player to go through the series and play their original versions. This makes Sonic Generations one of, if not the best legacy game ever made.
I agree that the ranking system is garbage, but I think that the time to get an S rank on a doppelganger race is probably pretty accurate to how it should be.
I remember my first sonic game which was sonic riders on the ps2 and the kill cap was for me as a kid nowa days sonic unleashed is for some reason hard for me, and it's only because of eggman land also i'm playing it on the wii. It's been 9yrs and I still haven't beat that level.
3:23 NEO The World Ends With You would disagree. it's like one of the only stories I can think of that does time travel in an easy and understandable way like OoT
Only discovered your channel now and really interesting video so far but this one I kinda hate cuz when I was little playing this game on my Xbox360 I had a couple A rank on some runs because I was really bad. And you saying your really bad but still got S rank makes me feel like I was super trash at this back then T-T. It's unfortunate that my 360 passed away because I have no use for my Sonic games anymore so I sold them but I think I will buy Generation back on pc. (with the added bonus of mods which allows many things like playing Unleashed day levels with Modern Sonic because Unleashed isn't available on Steam and I really don't want to dowload an emulator to run the game with.)
fighting Time Eater is a cool experience but that's ruined by Sonic's friends screaming It's a homing shot It's a warping arm attack Be Careful Sonic every nanosecond
I don't have the console version I did played it before it was fun but I liked the ranking system in the 3ds version better I got a B rank emerald coast then came back to the lvl and I got S rank for playing better it was a joyride :)
Guys I am thinking to download sonic generations from steam but I really want sonic rangers too. What should I do download sonic generations or wait for rangers?
Generations on steam has issues like major ones includingn crashes and if you have an RTX card even more crashing. Rangers we know nothing about only its supposed to release next year. I would wait for a sale to get gens dirt cheap but me i am never playing it cause the pc port literally sucks. it crashes on my pc all the time and there are multiple threads highlighting issues with the steam version including controller config sometimes glitching out and not working.
look man, i know the ranking system is a thing you care about. but that doesn’t make or break a game if its better or not. While colour’s may have a better ranking system, but lets look at the stages. Does it have as much as pathways of stages like seaside hill? Planet wisp (gens)? Sky sanctuary or any of them? Sure gen’s has 2d sections but it isn’t always there and it isnt a over abundance like sonic colours. I just don’t get what your point is that “oH beCause cOlurS haS gOod raNkiNg sYsteM itS betTer tHan geNs” when you are completely forgetting that generations stages are way better designed and it isnt shitty blocky platforming like colours.
honestly sonic games don't need a good story to be good. it just extra stuff to make the game better. also didn't finish to video yet but istg if u mention the goddamm ranking system again i will break ur kneecapz. also imo generations is the only sonic game from the meta era without cringe dialog. no "baldy nose hair" "not cool" or "I have friends u don't lolololol"
@@TailsGuy72 I agree it is trash but it doesn't matter. really the only thing that matters is going fast through the stages.i personally don't aim for s ranks and stop when I get one, I just improve my time and keep trying. you can tell you master the stage if you get a fast time.
@@truechillboi2967 I think it matters for replayability. That's what makes me play SA2 so much. I've put at least 400 hours into both games in the last decade and I gotta say SA2 is more fun because of that ranking sys. Though Gens levels are All A tier
@@TailsGuy72 I disagree I don't get any dopamine from seeing an s rank in any sonic game. I never did. I do care when I beat my previous time or get a fast time in general. gens is replayable. every sonic game that is fun and fast is replayable. not because of the ranking system. because sonic is fast and designed around getting good times on levels.
@@truechillboi2967 True, but it's how you do it in my opinion. SA2 rewards speed but also points. Sure, beat Final Rush in 3 minutes but also rack up points to get an A rather than a C. And if you die once you lose all points. Instant E/D depending where you are. You have to be REALLY good. I think Unleashed did the speed thing in rankings better than gens. Though it's extremely hard. If Gens incorporated score like that new mod called score generations that u60dates the ranking sys, it'd be a lot more fun
Can I be unbanned from your discord server, I got banned for reacting to people's hot takes with emojis. Also most people hated me in discord server for liking Sonic Lost World.
This game gets so much unnecessary hate because of Forces. This is on par with Colors, Lost World, Unleashed and Sonic 1 as my favorite game of all time
Unleashed is my favorite, But as far as gameplay, generations does the best job at showing who Sonic as his Core. But that Story is dog water. And that final boss is shit
The only thing about Generations' gameplay i don't really get is the drift. It feels very inconsistent for me. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Still really fun though.
@@guiteshima Funny because that is everyone's favorite drift, Unleashed was too wide and Colors was too tight, still better than Forces that has none lol
@@ayrtonjoga I feel like Generations' a little too tight, like, it makes a way too tight turn imo. Then again i'm not used to it....And i agree, at least Generations let's you do the drift by yourself.
9:45 Planet Wisp is the longest level in the game though. I think the minimum amount of time it takes for the average person to beat the stage and get an S rank is between 5 to 6 minutes. On my first time it took me 8 minutes to beat the stage and I got a B rank. That being said, I agree that the ranking system in this game sucks.
Funny you mentioned that you got a B rank for 8 minutes cause I remember watching someone play the level and finish in under 8mins 46 secs and have only 18 rings after getting hit a lot and they still got an S. At that point I was convinced that the ranking system is just broken.
Sonic forces as an example. Bland story it's just a punching bag. So are colors. Sonic unleashed is always being praised for its story. So I think it matters(opinion btw and this is respectful disagreeing)
@@slwoo7432 you expression matches well with your profile. While people generally have different opinions your opinions are still valuable to you. I can't tell you with a straight face Sonic Unleashed is my favorite Sonic game but I ain't gonna diss Colors for having the exact opposite of what I want from Sonic. Anyway sorry for wasting your time, go play colors, actually play Gens more 😉.
this game's got some really good level design, some of the best out of the series and is my favourite sonic game, the moding community for this game makes it easily the best buy, if i had to pick one sonic game out all and i could only play one of them i'd pick this game, also with adventure sonic being planned for this game, during early-mid development, just makes me wonder how sonic team would've handled bringing back the adventure, how the level design would've been, controls etc, with this game's really good level design, modern and classic, i'm sure they probably would've handled it well, i reckon modern sonics levels would've been more like unleashed, if adventure was in the game, most of his levels are really open, especially seaside hill, but anyways this game is god-tier
As awesome as this game is, I do wish there were more then just one zone representing each mainline game. Heck if "Sonic Colors Ultimate" does well (which I REALLY hope it does well) maybe we can get "Sonic Generations Deluxe" with more zones.
This might be the best Sonic game I’ve ever played. I go into Sonic for the gameplay, and this game perfects both styles of Sonic’s gameplay. But the final boss still sucks.
I really loved playing this game, it was a lot of fun and a good trip down memory lane! Didn’t really pay attention to the story though, I probably couldn’t even really summarize it for you that well. But overall a fantastic experience.
The animation and art style of the game is good so I'm pretty mad that lost world/froces ruind the art and animation for sonic hopefully Rangers gets it right along with other stuff.
"Generations is almost a masterpiece." I agree with that entirely. Yes, it's one of Sonic's best games, but it's not the best. It has some flaws here and there. Other than that, I still think Colors is the best boost game in my opinion.
@@RyanTheDark Unleashed may be my favorite as well. The combo of fun boosting stages and cool werehog fights/ platforming puts it up there. Most complain that only half the game is good, but in my mind, the werehog is fleshed out well enough, and is fun.
I feel like they should have added 3 more Zones with brand new stages and representing every era that Generations represents. The first Zone would be focused on the things that you can find in the Classic Era, the second Zone would be focused on the things you can find in the Dreamcast Era like they could combine the setting of City Escape And Speed Highway with the level ending with Sonic going to the beach side of the city to represent Seaside Hill, and I guess for the Modern era it could take the crumbling buildings from Crisis City but using the building style of Rooftop Run is a place that looks pretty similar to Planet Wisp. Just to give Generations more levels and I guess an identity.
It's funny because this was my first sonic game I got when I was a kid so to me the game has identity since I was introduced to all these sonic levels from generations. This is my equivalent of adventure. I see generations in a better light than I do adventure and vice versa for adventure kids.
