This game is basically like a modern day CD- lot of really neat ideas (I seriously can't see how people don't find the idea of the last zone cool, that's such a new and interesting gimmick that's never been done in Classic Sonic) but the execution is a little mixed. It's just not for everyone; but that's alright with me. Hence the CD comparison. You can go up to bat for CD all you want, I like that game, but it sadly isn't for everyone. That's kinda the feeling I got from Superstars as well. And I think that's partly why people are a little upset with it. Tl;dr: People went into this game wanting a game like Sonic 2 or 3, like Mania was, but got a game that's more akin to CD.

I'll probably grab it on sale because I don't want to spend too much money right now, but I've heard it's pretty good! It just isn't Mania, which it feels like people were expecting it to be. I will say a lot of people are saying "these zones aren't new, they're just different versions of existing stages!" as if the Sonic series isn't so big that rehashes of themes aren't going to happen anyway. Also I just want them to STOP trying to imitate the Genesis sounds, man 😭 These are good songs ruined by these fake twangs Anyway, great video!

A lot of people including myself were hoping that this would be Sonic Mania 2 but it was far from it. The physics were good but music and level design hurt it a lot as well as its steep price. The game was a bit disappointing but still fun to play.

⁠⁠@TopGFilesit’s not mid just for having double the price. it isn’t reasonable for $60, sure. but don’t shit on it like it’s a damn toilet. you have to learn that not everything can be as good as mania, but you can’t just treat it like trash. you probably didn’t even play the game, so come back once you actually experienced the game and start criticizing as much as you want.

I agree on the music part being a very mixed bag. I mean no offense to Jun Senoue, he's one of my favorite Sonic composers in the Adventure era, but honestly, lay off the Genesis copycat soundfonts man, Sonic Mania has already pretty much redefined the style of music the current Classic Sonic games has and I wish to keep it that way. Using the Genesis soundfonts now would just make the entire sound incohesive and indecisive - it's like dining in a restaurant where two completely different cooks take turns cooking the other's dish their own way.

Ngl i didnt like how you structured this video i haven't gotten ahold of the game yet, but i was curious to know your thoughts in a non-spoilery way, and despite the chapter marks mentioning that there's spoilers, i dont think its fair for a first time viewer to not get the chance to hear your non-spoilery thoughts i either have to skip around the video to get to a section where you dont discuss something spoilery or land on a part of the video horribly and get slapped in the face with a spoiler which is not what i wanted i think you shouldve had a spoilery and non-spoilery video or maybe just have the first half be non-spoilery and then the 2nd half go more in depth doing it half-and-half just makes what you actually show unpredictable and hard to watch as someone who doesn't want to get spoiled but has already been so multiple times

I really like the game, but there's just something I can't explain that drags it down for me. I guess it's just a number of things. Hopefully it will get a dlc with new acts for the one act zone starring Fang.

The story seems to be incomplete. The mural shown in the "Trio of Trouble" short & the Knuckles level displays 7 armored warriors that look like Trip, fighting the Black Dragon, each using a Chaos Emerald's special power & sealed it way into a black Jewel. Eggman seemingly wants the jewel & the Black Dragon's for himself so he can do whatever. The game doesn’t explain any of this, nor does it explain other plot points like, "Who were the 7 armored warriors?" "Who is the Black Dragon?" "Why were they fighting?" "What was the Black Dragon's goal?" "Who is Trip?" "How is she connected to these past events?" "What is her connection to the 7 armored warriors?" What is their connection to the Chaos Emeralds?" "How did they harness the Emerald's powers & use them to defeat the Black Dragon & seal him away?"

@@Tozito911 if you’re a knuckles main i’d beg to differ, he got slaughtered his glide SUCKS and can’t accelerate, superglide(starting a glide just above a moniter or badnik to bounce off it for height), and landing from a glide both takes like a second for the animation to play and can’t be spindashed out of also trip outclasses him and amy in every single way lmao

Nah tbh I think it’s a pretty solid game. The music is good in my opinion as well as the physics. The level design is great and I liked a lot of the gimmicks they added. I don’t really understand the hate. This game and sonic frontiers are the best sonic tittles in over a decade.

@@LD-service I mean, we have gentle piano melodies, and then suddenly we have EDM and Dubstep. Like what’s consistent about that. I get that when sonic enters cyberspace the music changes. But then why do we complain that bridge island and pinball carnival have different styles of music when they’re two completely different areas. Like I get it if people where talking about inconsistency in terms of good or bad music, but that’s not what they mean.

I seriously don't understand the hate this game is getting. Its almost like its become cool to nitpick the game. Physics are great, Music is still fantastic even if it has some ups and downs, I actually love the level design. Some of the boss battles are a bit tedious but some are really fun also. The game has a shit ton of stages, and the return of fang is awesome, I also think Trip is a cool character... All levels are also original ideas, and multiplayer is fun!

My issue with this game is how clunky the controls feel. Sonic should feel quick and snappy. Why does Mario wonder feel so snappy and quick but Sonic feels like he has a hard time getting up to speed and then there’s this weird sliding around that characters do like their momentum doesn’t stop correctly. Sonic never feels like he’s going that fast at all

I haven’t played this game but I can completely understand about the sound effects being loud and ripped from sonic mania and the only thing that makes it so obvious is that HZ sample if the same as the one from mania is the only way that makes it so obvious. My main issue isn't the soundtrack or bosses with Sonic Superstars, it's the lack of content and the fact that sells on the price of $60, the game I'd give a B-, good enough but definitely could have been better

As a longtime fan of this series, I’ve already come to terms with never getting a game that tops Generations. Because SEGA doesn’t expect better for Sonic and in turn, neither do the fans. So long as the games are “better than ‘06, or Rise of Lyric, or Sonic 4: Ep 1, or Forces, or [insert other fan base punching bag here],” being charged $60 for borderline shovelware-core, THQNordic quality games people stop thinking about after a month is good enough

First a good classic sonic game is 3&K I don’t get you saying Mania is a cash grab in any sort of way. now was it made as nostalgia first? Oh yeah of course that’s what sega wanted. But it was made with love and passion for the franchise literally made by the people who have made fan games , it has some of the best understanding of sonic and Sonic’s level design than most games in the series

Not just the stage Gimmicks, the Emerald powers are also Gimmicks. The only interesting one is the Silver Emerald and the Red one as it's basically Super Sonic's Air move from Sonic 3. Physics are okay, but Drop Dash, knuckles' glide, Amy's Drop... Hammer?? all have speed caps, and knuckles doesn't gain any speed even with speed shoes power up and stops to a halt when you land after gliding. The sense of speed is lost with these issues and the only time you're going "fast" is through automated sections. Hit a spring while rolling?? You can't turn around to increase the speed even while going down a slope. I had to return the game. I'd buy Origins if it came with the original tracks for Sonic 3.

Sonic Superstars was alright. Nothing incredible. I personally don´t vibe with the classic aesthetic. It´s too rounded and smooth. Like I miss the edge and style the ds and advance games had. Also the bosses tend to be kinda atrocious. Most of them are just a waiting game. And some of them (especially that fucking pig) don´t work that well imo. Overall nice game, but not good enough that I have the patience to play through it twice and get every emerald.

I’ve been playing sonic since the very first one. I really really enjoy the game but I do agree. The physics is definitely off, so nothing like the original and multiplayer beyond a joke like I don’t know what the hell they were thinking with the multiplayer manias multiplayer was super fun

Thank GOD I bought this game for $30 for a holiday sale. I really wanted to like it too. It’s just awful. The stages are sporadic and all over the place, I discovered if you miss an emerald in a stage it’s gone forever. So you don’t get the special power up. There’s too many tedious boss battles, and I’m dreading the final boss. This game is trash.

I think this was a decent level-headed review. Nothing too heavily praised or outright negative. I just hate this culture where if you point out something you didn't like about the game, it's labelled as nitpicking. These are opinions that aren't based on facts, so why should it matter if we point out something minor that didn't work out for you or me? It still needs to be said and everyone should speak their mind about it if that's how you honestly feel.

How about we focus on the true issue that messed with this game. Sega seems to learn nothing from their past mistakes and it happened again in ways that its a wonder why the developers of Sonic Mania got gypped. They got people who cant stop trying to do specific this or that that gets in the way of this game. There was even lore of this game that surrounded the final boss...and guess what Sega did?....You do not need me to answer a question this easy!!!! Also Arzest are the guys behind Balan Wonderland and Hey Pikmin games....what made Sega think they were ready!?

The final stage idea is a straight copy from Braid but done very poorly done (just like the entire game, Sonic Superstars not Braid).

I have many many issues with this game so ill just say one. What was even the point of fang being in this game? Like seriously i spent like 5 hours trying to beat that final boss just to get one of the shittiest super sonic sections I've ever played in a sonic game. Why is fang not a playable character? Is it because in 2 months they're gonna try to sell him to me plus a music pack for 15 bucks. I don't wanna play this horrible game again anyway

This game is the most miserable classic sonic experience since forces. I despise what this became and how insufferable the Sonic 4 ear cancer is along with the time wasting bosses how stupid the multiple multi phase bosses are and the zero fun and zero desire for replay value aside from trips slog of a campaign. This game every time I play it I’m left frustrated angry and feeling like my time is not valued in the slightest.
