spaceXcentric Kevin awesome video I have been waiting for this video for ever thank you so much and please keep doing these Maybe one on landing rockets? Also amazing animation
Wow! To be honest, I didn't think I was going to like this one, but I found it compelling right from the start. Thanks for giving me a new understanding of parachutes.
100% effort given shows 110% in the product.... man, this was awesome, awesome, awesome. So very well done and delivered a wealth of interesting information. Thank you!
@@steffahn that’s less of a parachute and more of a parafoil, I’d say Edit: Those are still parachutes I guess, just not the ones mainly being talked about
@@chocohouse4147 Yeah, in most fonts it is not the kind of parachute that the video is about. Nonetheless the official name for the emoji seems to be “parachute”.
I remember when you had 900 subs around the time you proposed the LEGO ideas falcon heavy it amazes me how much you grown and how fast love your vids keep it up!
I honestly never thought parachutes were so complex and I've skydived before, younger and dumber. This is the kind of stuff Discovery channel and the like used to put out before everything was reality/fake TV. Parachutes are pretty damn complex and amazing. This is a quality piece of work and the hours and detail you put into it show. Nice job! Can't wait for Wednesday.
I went from propulsive only to now understanding the awesome complexity of parachutes. Good work Kevin... cant wait for you to produce the next one :-P
When I was stationed in Korea I ordered a new main canopy from the US. When it arrived the box was stamped on all sides, in big red letters "EMERGENCY ALTITUDE DECELERATOR". Thought this was a strange thing to call a parachute. But later found out that if you are shipping emergency/life saving equipment you got a break on postage. So this is what it was called so as to get this break. Thought is was a bit funny. Just my $0.02
I have always found great wisdom in the saying "never jump out of a perfectly good airplane" that must be why use rickety old airplanes for parachute jumping, a form of incentive.
Other than commercial flights I've taken off a couple of thousand time but only landed 5 and they were always somewhat scary. Especially looking rearwards out an open door.
Outstanding video. I’m sure you just caused a spark that will change a lot of young people’s lives with the enthusiasm and knowledge you showcased here. The desire and ability to figure things out is what is going to get us to Mars and beyond. So many people that have the ability to contribute to our future in space don’t yet even realize what is happening right now but they will. Content creation like this and more broadly your amazing channel is so beneficial to bringing the dream to reality. Great job!!!
Fabulous documentary Kevin. As a skydiver and paraglider pilot I really appreciated the development manufacturers put into the safety and performance of these systems.
Awesome documentary!! Glad you mentioned Copenhagen Suborbitals, as they have produced amazing achievements for amateur rocketmen! Looking forward to your next documentary.
Nothing beats the feeling you get when looking up at the chute deploying after pulling the cord, followed by the firm pull and the decrease of wind noise. Looking at some of the slow-motion movies of the parachute testing is like watching art. :)
Haven't even gotten past the intro yet and had to leave a comment. This is going to be great! Thank you for taking an in-depth look at an often underappreciated technology from a fellow freefall fanatic
I love the thrill and anticipation of chutes opening, gracefully, and majestically slow a large massive capsule to a safe gentle landing. To me, watching chutes open and slow the Gemini and Apollo capsules to a safe splashdown after a challenging mission, aggressive violent re-entry - is like saluting the men and women for a Mission well done. Please, please continue this series on the importance, technical needs of large parachutes! Thanks for sharing.
I'm so glad you had Mads on here, plus with an actual skydiver for the subtle details like packing inside vs outside gives a fantastic video. I'm even more surprised that these things work so well now
Great job and an interesting doc. Thank you. That must have been a time consuming endeavor. Well worth it. I personally would also like to thank lawyer wife. Someone needed to. :D
As someone just getting into my own channel, i watched this not just for the content, which was simply stellar (ha) but with the view of how you'd do a long length video, and i have to say, you REALLY nailed it. Perfect storyline, well executed, the planning must have been well thought out! Love the occasional jib in there too, so your style. Amazing video K, can't wait for more!!!
Wow, Kevin, well done for this! This must have taken an incredible amount of work to put this together so well and professionally, and it certainly shows! This is the way learning should be.
A great video... informative, entertaining and up-to-date. I know these longer form episodes require huge levels of effort, but the results speak for themselves. Looking forward to the next installment!
Awesome! Great video and epic music while wrapping up the ending... like a well deployed parachute! One of those airborne soldiers here, though now a veteran! I love parachutes!
Having been a smokejumper and now a youtuber, I respect both the parachute and the hard work you put into this video. Great stuff like this is hard to do. Thanks pal.
Happy Memorial Day Kevin! Great informative video bro! You put a lot of time into this one! Amazing! Perfect time for DM 2 this Wednesday SpaceX Falcon 9 Crew Dragon launch!! (Fingers crossed)
Your best video yet. I love the regular updates, but a deep dive on a specific subject like this (especially one not as well appreciated or understood as it perhaps should be) is very welcome. Thanks!!
I made a comment on the previous video, wondering where Kev Kev had been lately. This explains it all. The amount of work filming, interviewing, travel etc and editing has achieved this 'Award Winning' story on Rocket Parachutes. ***** that's 5 stars from New Zealand. A big congratulations Kev Kev.
Wow, you did an amazing job on this video. I learned so much and have a greater appreciation for the research and testing of "against - fall" devices. Thank you for putting the time, resources and energy into this presentation.
Great video! As a child of Apollo, I was fascinated with all things space travel, but I was especially fascinated with parachutes. Every trip to the library yielded a haul of whatever books mentioned parachutes - spacecraft, smoke jumpers, paratroopers, skydivers, whatever. When my mother mentioned that she had an uncle who had been a paratrooper, I couldn’t wait to talk to him and get all my questions answered. He was very patient with me. :D This video really cleared up a lot of remaining questions for me!
Mad respect on the long format doc formats. Really interesting stuff! Nothing sounded like a regurgitation of some other topic related to the subject. Original and informational! More please!
You hyped this video up a lot...and frankly after seeing it, I don't think you hyped it up nearly enough. Beautiful work Kevin, such a delight to watch!
You've got to love Peter Beck... happy to talk stuff like this with guys like Kevin. I loved the interview he did with Tim Dodd, the two of them just sitting casually on the edge of the launch platform.
Speaking as a Kiwi, I totally agree with you Simon. Peter has really done a great thing for the small satellite industry and has put New Zealand in the world news. But, like some earlier New Zealand business eg Hamilton jet boats, we have to get the backing of US investors to make it happen. Our 4.8 million population is still too small. Yes, I saw that Tim Dodd interview, it was great. Peter and Elon are very meticulous 'engineers' of 'making it happen'. A rare breed. And Kevin got a good score for his 'favourite subject' and the interview with Peter on the recovery chutes.
Originally I did not think that this topic is that much interesting to me, but gave the benefit of the doubt based on previous content. I can say it totally worth my time, so really well done.
This documentary was the best spaceXcentric video I have seen. Congratulations! You should do more documentary videos like this one. It was really educational! THANK YOU!
An awesome and very satisfying explanation of the subtle beauty and complexity of modern parachutes. Well done, with clear and easily understood main points!!!!
This is yet another reason why youTube is so amazing and supporting small content creators is the future of "broadcasting" i cut the cable to get netflix, i axed netflix to get youtube premium -- its worth every penny:
This is a start to end jam packed awsome footage and information video. This team that put so much time and effort into compiling this amazing video needs to be commended. And for all those that generously offered their assistance too. Kevin ... You seriously are a professional in your ability to faultlessly articulate this presentation world of parachutes . Thank you *everyone* .
This is one of the aspects of space travel that is so often glossed over, but seeing videos of those multi-stage parachute deployments during the testing of Crew Dragon and Starliner got me curious about how they worked, so I was very happy to find such a fantastic video about it. Also I was very happy to see Copenhagen Suborbitals in this video!
What a great documentary. Your background music inspired me to fit into my Thunderbirds costume and salute to my laptop. My eyes were filled with emotion.
I'm not fan of parachutes. But I learned a lot of things and I have to say thanks for. I think is one of the best episodes I've seen of the xcentric. There is a lot to learn, so I will watch it another time. Thx.
This is by far your best video. Wow nice job. Your tone and how you talk to us is perfect. The information is great. I can see now why you like parachutes so much. Great video! I am a space geek and have been following you and other channels through the whole SpaceX Startship testing. Watching live feeds for hours. I never knew all of this about parachutes, and I have been sky diving before.. Nice work! Thank you
