@@spacexsays3227 The idea of the earth being flat is about as stupid as it comes in 2020. I mean philosophers have had the understanding of the earth being a globe for thousands of years and it’s been generally accepted for hundreds. Now that we have satellites in orbit and the ISS it’s just common fact we live on a globe. Here’s my question though, if the earth is truly flat why would every country in the world, including countries that hate each other all agree to keep it a secret the earth is flat? What do they have to gain, same reason if the moon landings were staged why didn’t the Soviet’s call out the Americans when they only lose by pretending the US got to the moon?

I don’t think you’ll have to wait a few years. As of Jan2021, they’re already working in the second booster prototype. I would be surprised if they don’t start testing them this year, even if they have to put legs on the first few until the build the launch / landing tower. They also bought two floating or semisubmersible drilling platforms to modify into sea launch platforms. They must not sleep! Lol.

I would not have recognised it as such had it not been made evident in both the info and the comments, and since then I have heard other AI narration and have been astonished at the advances in Text-to-Speech software. And what is your point, you may be asking now? My point is that having become acquainted with the particular peculiarities of AI phrasing, I am convinced that the narration of this video is itself an automated voice. So by the time Starship sets off for Mars it may very well be equipped with its very own version of HAL9000!

For those of us who have fallen in love with Space Exploration all over again because of Space-X's rapid fire successes still need to brace ourselves for when it goes bad, too. That we don't just jump on a bandwagon of disappointment and bail. We need to steel ourselves for the failures. Because the moment one tragedy DOES hit, there will be those who capitalize on it, and take to shouting "We should stop this". Be it politicians, media, special interest movements, the bored looking for personal validation and attention, competition, and competition paid up with the right politicians. And we need to shout the opportunists down right back, and be ready do it at a moments notice.

Regardless of the full reuse and stainless steel structure that is an EXTREMELY unrealistic goal. I love that phrase, "...next evolution of crazy space ideas"! You've got to absolutely love what SpaceX has done, pushing the envelope and making it dramatically less expensive in material, labor and other fabrication costs. I wish them continued great success. Orion may speed up their development now that Jeff has begun to concentrate his attention as well as resources on it, and they'll benefit from what SpaceX has learned, so more power to them, as well. Two private corporations in the U.S. are doing what no other country on earth can do, and we've only seen the early beginnings of what they will accomplish.

Misconceptions are common with new technology. Starship is designed for a propulsive landing, using its engines to slow down for touchdown. This eliminates the need for a massive catching structure and allows for reuse of the booster.

Tension stresses (catching it) vs compression stresses (landing on it's tail)

Steel cables. Easy to maintain and replace, cheap and versatile.
@SoloRenegade
@SoloRenegade 3 года назад
@@EddyKorgo I was referring more to the stresses on the skin and main body of the rocket. When landing on its tail, the rocket risks buckling under the weight and forces. But hanging from the grid fins puts most of the structure under tension as it comes to a stop. But maybe cables would be part of the catching structure as well, vs a landing pad.
