@BarefootViking
@BarefootViking 4 месяца назад
Can you explain please? I love this move but admit there is much I don't understand
@goblinslayer7096
@goblinslayer7096 4 месяца назад
@@BarefootViking spoilers: There’s three times in the movie we see a motorcycle. The beginning, the middle (just a few minutes before intermission) and the end. Also, the beginning of the film starts with the end. The beginning of the film has people arguing about what kind of man he is. The whole movie, Lawrence is asking himself, “who are you?” He explores, he tests himself, he pushes himself and keeps not finding his limits. He crosses deserts, he wins every battle, he saves lives. He clashes with being British, he tries being an Arab but he doesn’t even know what that is. He’s even told, “Arabs do not like the desert” but he does. One of the first things he really discovers about himself is that he enjoys killing. He eventually believes he has no limits and even pretends to walk on water. But then he is captured and dominated and violated. Then everyone keeps trying to tell him who and what he is, “I’m an ordinary man” “you’re the most extraordinary man I’ve ever met” and he’s almost scared by that. He has no idea. At the very end he is leaving in a jeep. Then he sees a man on a motorcycle. For us, it’s foreshadowing his death. For him, he remembers the man by the canal who asked repeatedly, “who are you?” Which Lawrence at the time was unable to answer. But then he smiles to himself (like he does when he rides the motorcycle at the beginning of the film) because he knows who he is really. He is Lawrence of Arabia. I could talk about this movie forever but that’s the main theme of what the movie is really “about” I think. I think this is what makes it greater than a lot of the other big epics.

One of my favourite books is A Peace to End All Peace, which among other things describes the collapse of the British empire after WW1. What Spielberg says about Lawrence is also true of Britain at that time.

When I was like 12 they put Lawrence of Arabia on one of those channels in the teens where the same movie showed at the same time every day for a week or whatever and I watched it like four times in a row. My parents were very confused lol

Peter O'Toole was dead brilliant in the title role. It is a thrilling, moving tale from an age where such grand movies had intermissions and were regarded on a parallel with theatre.

T.E. Lawrence had discovered that his parents were not married. This may mean little today but this was a huge stigma back then. This is why he had so many problems in his life.

That pretty much sums it up, and extremely well. So little was known publicly about World War I by the time we got to 1962, that war being completely overshadowed by World War Two and the ongoing Cold War, and what was known by the public about World War I was mostly centred on the Western and Eastern Fronts, with miniscule commentary made about the Arab Revolt and the Palestine Front.
