Simple problem but there's still myth around why strung racquets drop the stiffness rating around "3RA points" (that's a big assumption).
Here is the answer :-).

Is it possible to have a heavy swing weight like 330+ and a very head light setup? Would the racket be powerful and maneuverable?

If you don't mind the weight, then I have a suggestion. Cut the racquet down to 26,5 inches and add more weights, a lot of weights at racquet head. I modified several racquets like that just to test them and they are pretty amazing: Yonex Vcore Tour F 93: 354gr - 30,9mm balance - 324SW Angell TC90: 340gr - 32,7mm balance - 332SW Pro Kennex Q+ Tour Pro: 358gr - 31,1mm balance - 333SW They're all very solid (I wouldn't say powerful as opposed to Pure Drive but solid like a train) and maneuverable at the same time. 1hbh is at ease 😉 I added roughly 10gr total for each racquet at 3&9 o'clock if I remembered right.

@@TenniswithAlex Great suggestion! You are such a magician and so creative! I think the same principle would apply to extending the racket length: increase the SW and add weight at the handle to achieve the HL combination! Would the 350+g total weight reduce your racket speed and reduce the power/spin/maneuverability as a result? Please share your own feedback with the extended/standard/shortened rackets!

@@zhangbryant3748 I'm sorry for late reply. Thank you for your words. Yes extended racquets can do the trick as you said. :-D Certainly extended & shortened racquets give different feel because of their lengths. Even though they may share similar SW and balance, we need lots of time to feel how to handle these racquets :-D For the shortened racquets at 350+gr, I don't feel any hindrance to maneuver them. I feel like "Pete Sampras using his PS85" even though I'm 1,68m only (He has super strong upper body and arms that he maneuvers the racquet sometimes like badminton players, does jump-smashing). Easy to maneuver, but they all have great punch when striking (the punch and stability feel like Pro Staff RF97 or VCore Pro 330gr, but much better maneuverability ;-)) Then comes the racquet head speed. I have no device to measure that speed so I can't assure. As we might expect, shortened racquets feel fastest and extended (I have 28" and 29" also) feel slowest. But it's subjective. Because even though with extended racquets, the swing angular, rotational speed (of our body) might be slower, the racquet head speed might be fast because the racquet head is further away from rotational axis :-D Because of the mentioned above, power & spin feel similar to their original forms (at similar SW), before shortened or extended. It sounds a bit odd, but it's only my feeling. There are Zenniz sensors in tennis center where I play and I try to measure my serve speed sometimes. I don't see much difference in my serve speed when I change racquets. Fast feeling racquets give me the sense that I serve faster (which not usually the case). On the other hand, slow feeling racquets (like extended ones) surprises me as I seem not to swing fast (being more relaxed) but still can serve as fast as other racquets. Hope my feedback helps you in some ways. The bottom line is, racquets, of course, affect how we maneuver them. But at the end of the day, how we play entirely depends on us :-D.

@@TenniswithAlex I am fine tuning my racket (315SW+ 10HL+318g) with the following thoughts: 1. Keep 10 HL balance for lighter feel and speed (therefore spin?); 2. Increase SW (at 12) for serve return and counter heavy ball; please advise me on what level would be sufficient (320SW); 3. Keep to total mass to be as low as possible also for faster speed. Am I on the right path to generate heavy top spin shots?
@TenniswithAlex

@@zhangbryant3748 Hi Zhang, I hope you get most of the answer from my other comment. *Am I on the right path to generate heavy top spin shots?* The right path is our striking mechanism. Certainly if we find a racquet that fits, it's easier to learn the right striking mechanism. For the racquet, I suggest you can play with highest SW as you comfortably use, then balance and mass come later. It's hard to say how much SW it can be. Only you can test and decide. If you think about 320SW, then let's test with 330SW. Be patient with it. Practice for at least 10 hours to have proper adaptation. Then you have better idea of your SW range. I prefer to practice with high mass, high SW racquets because I have to learn to rotate the torso. Light racquets tend to make us lazy. I personally like to add lead tape at 4&8 o'clock. It feels good for 1HBH also ;-)

@@TenniswithAlex no problem.... Or you can answer me. Here also😉 Have you tried head gravity, speed or radical?? Any of these lineups??

I did play with Gravity Pro or Tour (whatever I don't remember, but the 18x20 version) and Speed MP + Pro. I haven't tried the newest Radical 😀

Hey Hope you are doing well 😁😁 I just wanted to buy head gravity but now I am confused between mp and mp lite version... I am really sick 😉 The mp version is 295gm and mp lite is 280 and moreover I want to buy it in grip size 2 so racquet will feel a bit head heavy. Which should I go for ?? People say in reviews that mp lite version doesn't redirect much power as compared to mp version. Can this be soooo true and can we feel 15 gm of weight difference. Thanks
@TenniswithAlex
@TenniswithAlex 2 года назад
Grip size shouldn't alter the balance, unless the quality control of production is bad 😁 Nevertheless, if you prefer head heavy feeling, lighter racquets generally are the ones to pick. Even 3 grams are noticeably different, for example when you add few weights to your racquets and compare with its original form. I personally feel the swing weight plays bigger role on the power directing that you mentioned. I play with Head Microgel Prestige Mid 330gr and Wilson Blade 98 305gr for example, they have comparable, similar SW and they feel similarly hefty at impact. The difference in static weight puts the Prestige in very head light side. The Blade is slightly head light. At the end of the day, we can play with any racquet just as well if we don't try to arm-swing the racquets. Demo the racquets if you can and then decide. If you can't, but still want to understand what you prefer, then you can pick lighter racquet, measure its SW and add weights if needed. We can add more weights but very hard to reduce weights 😀 The Lite version probably has 5-10 SW points lower than the MP (I only guess so) and it might be the reason why it doesn't feel as hefty as the MP. Sadly very few companies list their SW (I see Pro Kennex and Prince do that which are very appreciated)

@@TenniswithAlex yea bro grip size will not alter the balance but we can observe that when we play with Racquet having no overgrip, it feels heavier and then wrap a thick overgrip no matter how awkward is your feel but you can figure out that the Racquet is lighter and more maneuverable. Now if I buy mp version in grip size 2, it maybe feel heavier. But ya I will decide now 😂😂😂 as you can figure out that how much heavy Racquet I should play with. BUT I want to say that I have prince tour 100 in 310 gm and it feels too heavier to me. Surprisingly the swing weight of prince is exactly same as mp version. Does this mean that both the Racquets are equally heavy upon swing??? Let me know this. Did actual weight of Racquet don't matter??
@TenniswithAlex

Swing weight is basically the inertia of that racquet (correct term is "moment of inertia". I prefer calling it "rotational inertia" as it's easier to understand) when rotates around a pivot (handle where we hold the racquet). Static weight (mass) is the inertia of the racquet when moves linearly. So higher the inertia is, the worse the racquet can change velocity (accelerate or decelerate). I tell you this so you can see the correlation between swing weight and mass and easier to understand. So with similar swing weight, the momentum that the racquet transfers to the balls is similar. It's hard to feel by just swinging the racquet. It's easier to feel when we really strike the balls. Here is the interesting thing: when the racquet strikes the ball, the ball and our hand apply forces that try to rotate the racquet in opposite direction AROUND ITS CENTER OF MASS. Now, we consider the moment of inertia of the racquet at its center of mass (not at handle anymore). With higher mass, more likely this moment of inertia is higher than the lesser mass one, ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE SAME SWING WEIGHTS. Higher moment of inertia means harder to change velocity, aka. feeling more stable. I try to give a big picture, so you can understand and make decision easier. With similar swing weight, the feel of "force" impacting the ball is pretty similar, but the heavier (higher mass) racquets would more likely feel more stable. I hope I answer your question.

About the grip, when we add over grip, we add more mass to the racquet, move the balance (center of mass) a bit closer to the handle. That's why you feel more maneuverable, even though the racquet is heavier. Swing weight would be similar though.
