That Ed McCaffrey is from Pennsylvania, however we met in person at his request and we are related in County Mayo Northern Ireland, as our clan originates from that county only. I have a striking resemblance to his son Christian, but our families are not related here in the US. I understand why he is so popular in Bronco country, as he was a phenomenal player, and your reference to his cut back block against the Green Bay linebacker in the Super Bowl is also my favorite play as well! Bend is less than 4 hours from the beach if you mob it, I moved from Kauai to Oregon and thought the same but the coast is raw like Hawaii. Good luck drove thru Tx once it was flat and 110 farenheit

OSU. Very under rated university. One of two universities with Land, Space, Sea and Sun grant designation. It's an hour from Newport which has a few decent surf breaks. Its a few hours from Bachelor as well. Oh, and there is an OSU campus in Bend. I'm a little biased having graduated from OSU, lived in Bend 92-02 and currently live in Newport. I see my post is 3 years after your post. But i had to reply. I feel blessed having experienced Bend during the time I did.

@@AuRowe I'm in Newport Oregon now. I can make it from Corvallis to Newport in right about an hour. Hwy 20 has been straightened and a few more passing lanes added. South jetty is a good break. You can get to it through South Beach park

Geoff Coombs, Geoff I live right on the beach. I surf. Have done for close to 50 years. I still ride a shortboard 6'4" quad at salt creek. You need to grow up your narrow minded tunnel vision will not serve you well. there's a whole lot more to the world and recreation than just at the beach. I saw people surfing in the middle of Munich, Germany far from any coast, they were having just as much fun as Gerry did that first paddle out at Uluwatu 40 years ago. it's been said many times by the best and wisest sages off the sport, unplug your ears and listen....."Surfing is a state of mind, the best surfer out there is the one having the most fun". I don't doubt for one minute Gerry's having more fun than ever and more fun than you.
