He mentioned in another interview that if he got an A-Lister like Will Smith to play Hitler, the movie would have just been known as “the Will Smith Hitler movie”

this movie was surprising in many ways, especially when the dramatic portions were so on point you'd be laughing one second and so moved the next you'd almost be in tears

Jo Jo Rabbit was hands down one of my favorite films of that year. The script, cinematography, score & scene stealing actors successively entering the screen throughout the entire film equal a sublime experience. It will make you *_bellyache_* laugh (repeatedly), introspectively think about particular facets of a 75+ year old war in fresh angles & even the tougher guys and gals of us are apt to shed a tear or *_20_* in truly gut-wrenching storytelling from one of the finest directors and character actors of our time. There's not a lot of films in the history of cinema that absolutely nail every above aspect, and this is one of them. What a gem!

It's one of my all time favourite films. It's just genius, and has it all. Heart, humour, pathos, whimsy, beautifully drawn characters, witty narrative and a warmth that gets you right in the feels. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and do it..

This movie is absolutely amazing. Jojo Rabbit and hunt for the wilderpeople are some of my top favorite films of all time. Taika really has a way of taking dark subjects (like WW2, propaganda, foster care systems, etc), turning them into comedies, and maintaining a balance of humor and seriousness

playing hitler himself was a great move because the version of hitler he plays actually somewhat requires a ridiculously terrible casting choice. since jojo's (who's never even met the man) hitler isn't actually even hitler, but a 10 year olds idealized minds eye version blended with a standard imaginary friend, it would make sense that they wouldn't actually want to cast someone who would do a really great hitler performance. i would also imagine that this story isn't COMPLETELY true, and that Waititi deep down LOVED the idea of getting to clown on HITLER

He wrote the whole movie just to cosplay Hitler

This film was actually a masterpiece. First time I watched it i couldn’t tell whether it was a comedy or a tragedy. I was struck by (at least) the one scene when he finds his mom (no spoilers). Great film tho…and he was a great Hitler

He was right, the entire landscape of cinema changed…A listers had a place in movies, and most movies didn’t need an Alister to sell the movie, because A listers carry an already in place audience. Well, the audience doesn’t care as much about the actors involved, now the audience wants just a cool story and a good movie to watch.

And that’s why Jo Jo and anything he does is absolute gold!
