The best advertising is word of mouth. The neighbour showing their new car... RU-vid reactions... I do understand why mainstream media dislikes this as it's potential revenue unrealised. The reality is that advertising generally oversells for the sale. Tesla only needs to continue their path of diversified product (Model 2 please), constant updates and innovations. Pravda is not only a russian word. The abbreviation is in every slavic language (Czech, Polish, Balcan etc.) and its a direct reference on the alternative newspapers during socialism.

Company does not need PR when when their product speak for itself and by grass-roots word of mouth it gets word around naturally. I work at an company developing and maintaining app that serves a niche market and helps companies in that market in their various processes and is of great importance to every company that uses our app. We dont have a PR.. we have basically only programers employed and few sales representatives that go to meetings and coordinate with customers when it is needed... similar thing only in much smaller scale, companies hear about us by word of mouth and ask us about our product and how to join. Thats grass-roots, word of mouth and by pure product quality of product "marketing" instead of classical public relations and marketing that many companies have.

He said himself several times in his tweets and I think he's right he doesn't need a communication or advertising team because he's too busy making good products and changing the world not alone of course but with his teams. So he doesn't have time to manage an image and anyway he doesn't need it, the products speak for themselves and it should be like that for any company the product the quality should speak for itself

Elon just realized what the media really is information brokers.

When media does pr they do it for an agenda, when pr department does pr they do it for job security, when youtubers do pr they do it for content. Cost per exposure is the least when it comes to youtubers and reaches a wider audience.

There is a big difference between the object being examined and the objectives being aimed for. Eg Model 3 ramping up was undertaken as an objective, not an off-the-shelf object left to chance by leaving the responsibility to someone else.

Having a PR Dep. Is like having an automated phone call. It shows they put some effort in response and people can obviously tell that the company doesn't care.

I think even the world's best PR cannot explain his epic fails with the Las Vegas Loop & Solarroof projects or Hyperloop concepts.

Marketing and PR personal are overpaid and do very little work. How do I know? I used to intern at one the biggest one in the US. Half the time we were charging customers and not doing anything lol.

The test of Tesla's "no media team" strategy will come in the next couple of years as mainstream automakers ramp up EV production and leverage their huge, well-oiled marketing machines. Tesla has had no real EV competition until now, and even the few EVs made by traditional car companies have not been supported by enthusiastic marketing campaigns. Ford will be pushing the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning hard in the marketplace, and GM and VW will follow them soon. It will be interesting to see if Musk's trust in "the people" holds up against this PR and advertising challenge.

And the “great” thing about Elon in relation to PR, is that he does limit himself to telling the truth, and with no interviews by critical media and event with participation of fanboy websites and pro-Tesla youtube channels only, there are nobody to ask critical questions.

How could you not like this guy.

I can only speak from personal experience but I have never paid attention to any marketing nor do I ever buy anything that I saw in an ad or commercial (within reason, of course). That stuff does not work on me and I am sure there are many others with the same mindset. Why would someone spent large amounts of money on advertising a premium products when it sells itself. Especially how much media coverage they get anyway.

Oh my... Everything journalists wrote in this compilation is just a cringe moment... Their understanding of why Tesla and SpaceX are successful is 0. It's embarrasing how narrow-minded basically everyone who covers Elon in this way is. You wouldn't mistake them for any good engineer, technical scientist or anyone else who is actually improving society.

PR can be the biggest money pit for any company that doesn't scrutinize efficacy, utility, and efficiency well enough.

So- called "legacy" car makers originally used advertising just to publicize and market their cars. The worst of these companies evolved into relying on advertising for every part of the manufacturing process. Tesla's approach - not advertising at all - is a breath of fresh air..
