I noticed the Autopilot got significantly better on a road trip to OKC this week. Normally on that stretch I have to intervene 2-3 times based on how hilly it is going north, but there and back I had zero disengages. Worked like a dream in both sunny conditions and at night. It had to have been in a recent update that it was adjusted. Also, nice Speedy Pro. Great watch.

I love your videos and this drive brings back a lot of memories. I lived in Phoenix for 20 years and have made that I40 drive many times on my way to Chicago. I have had my model y long range for about 6 weeks now and have over 3500 miles. It’s a great road trip car! They just need to work on some of the details like ride quality, auto wipers, auto high beams, cameras that don’t say they are blocked because it’s dark outside, but between the price, the performance, the range, the tax credit and the supercharger network it’s the most logical choice for an electric car… at least in my opinion 😊

We’re Snowbirds from the Philly area and drive to Venice Beach Florida for the winter, approximately 1,600 miles. This is our first long distance drive in our Tesla M3LR and we really enjoyed it. We can no longer do it in 2 days like before, but understanding that in advance we made reservations at three hotels on the way down and an additional hotel (Savannah Ga) for a beautiful visit. The upside, all that you mentioned, including the FSD Supervised. On highways it was incredibly, on city streets great, but not perfect. The extra hotels added costs and time to get to both locations, but it’s well worth it, especially when you understand EV Reality. Love my Tesla, I’m an early adopter, love new technology and have done enough research to truly understand that “forced” EV adaptation is STUPID, and counterproductive. I’m a new Subscriber, looking forward to your videos. Thanks so

I owned a 2019 3 SR+ for 4.5 years and going from that to the Model Y LR AWD, on ~370 mile road trips the Y makes the trips 1-2 hours shorter than it was in the SR+. Last September, I drove my Model Y from Oklahoma to Montana and back over four days. The vehicle ran great, and cost me approximately $360 in supercharging. Range Anxiety is for the ignorant. I have a friend who drives a Bolt from Portland, Oregon to L.A. about every 6-weeks with no issues. Most people don't travel very far from home...they fly and rent. Even so ...distance traveling in an EV is pretty easy and getting easier by the day. Another thing is... Why pay for expensive range when most will never really use it. And range will get better and cheaper cuz we are just at the beginning of this new transportation regime. But... I'm someone who can drive for very long distances. My last big trip was from Portland, Oregon to Atlanta, Texas with a 4-hour stop near Green River, Utah. I once drove from Ensenada to Lund, BC, Canada with a stop in Portland to shower and do some laundry. Tube videos like this will hasten EV adoption...Thanks!

the windmill blades are now recyclable and they produce 15% to 18% from wind nation wide. For example Veolia and GE have partner and shred those blades into cement . Carbon Rivers transforms those blades since they are made mostly from fiberglass blades into textiles and other synthetic materials and Global Fiberglass turns those blades into railroad ties and plastic pellets; and Finally Vestas and partner's will take the epoxy refine it and reuse it for new blades. so is a win win.

I recently took a road trip with an RV through Arizona from Rio Rancho, NM where I live. All the KOA campgrounds we stopped at said, "No EV charging". The closest supercharger is 10.8 miles from my house. The nearest gas station is on my way to work and is 1.29 miles from my house. There are 12 gas stations within 5 miles of my house This is typical. I wonder why EV drivers don't count the extra time and distance they drive out of their way to get to their chargers? Cherry picking a particular charger location to show how convenient it is doesn't get it for me. There is also wasted time coming to a full stop, then getting back up to highway speeds. I can see getting a used EV for local trips around town and home charging, but my hybrid and the RV has over 600 miles of range for a reason. If the infrastructure improves for EV's and the price of supercharging improves, EV's will be more practical for road trips. Until then, stopping where I choose seems like a better way to road trip. I don't think EV's are ever going to catch on with the general population if the government doesn't start using the money they have already collected from tax payers to improve the infrastructure.
@khaid
@khaid 3 месяца назад
Your routine with an ev isn't the same as your routine with an ice vehicle. How far a supercharger is from your home is only a concern if you can't charge from your home, which isn't exactly a situation for a majority of ev owners. Majority charge from home so they don't care about where the the supercharger location is unless they're going on road trips. Maybe the supercharging situation doesn't look great in the areas you've driven through, but they're more than fine along the east and west coast states. Also Tesla partnered with companies like buc-ees, sheetz, and Wawa to add superchargers to their lots. I completely agree with you about the government needing to step up more to assist in building out this infrastructure though.
@karllued
@karllued 3 месяца назад
I live in New Mexico. I've never seen a Buc-eez, Sheez, or Wawa. An electric vehicle would be very convenient for most local trips, but less convenient to the point I would be constantly worried about where I could get a charge on a rural trip through New Mexico at this point in time. Hopefully the infrastructure will improve here.

Agreed. Range does not matter on road trips. Your taking the trip to enjoy the drive, not get there as fast as possible. If that was the case you'd buy a plane ticket. Again, its a road trip and your doing thus for a fun memory or experience...enjoy the drive and relax. Autopilot or fsd and its a who new driving experience. Sit back and enjoy.

Plane ticket is not all it’s cracked up to be.. this week it took 30 hours to fly into Chicago from Tampa after 7 delays and a cancelled flight on United Returning it took 9 hours after 2 delays ….and I thought I was saving time by flying instead of taking my Tesla on a road trip😳

@@bridge1872 and United breaks guitars. Having said that, most if not all the domestic airlines in the US seem to have their detractors. I would always favor flying SWA, and never United or AA. Others would not consider SWA. Pretty much, it boils down to our personal experiences and those of our friends and families. Regardless, I'm not going to worry about air fare again, I hope, as I hope to do all my travel in the future in my model Y.

Your videos are fun. I like how you ramble on and dont have these prepared texts. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone use the term blowing it out after dropping a deuce. Thanks!

Thanks for all this information on your road trip and alternate places to connect to and charge the Tesla. Nice to know there are other plugs we can purchase besides the Tesla mobile package they sell when we buy the vehicle. Take care.

27:20 - I bet windmill blades are easier to deal with than nuclear waste. I find it odd that people make such a stink about wind turbine blades and nobody seems to care about mountains of garbage in every town because we can’t figure out what to do with our regular trash: Dig a big hole and throw it all in there and then covered up dirt. 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Range figures are only best scenario estimates for EVs. Real world operation, with any variation in roadway incline or any variation in cross wind, Head wind etc. are going to vastly reduce assumed range. I’m not surprised to see a Tesla Y achieve a less than 180mi range, on an interstate that cuts through mountainous areas. If it were operated on surface streets in hilly areas, the range would be far less. ….. Once a battery operated vehicle reaches 50% battery life, it begins to loose range at a higher rate, compared to a charge rate above 50%. …. The advertised rates for EVs are for operation AT the least, wind resistant speed, on completely flat terrain, with no parasitic devices operating (HVAC, Sound Sys, Tablet Monitor etc.). Conditions in which most EVs will never be operated by their owners. …. Further, EV batteries, start to loose range as they cycle during use. An EV with 15k miles will have less charge retention than a new EV, and as the vehicle approaches, 50k miles, it overall charge retention is down by 10% to 15%. That next 50k will see a far greater loss in charge compared to the first 50k miles (expect a 25% to 40% loss in potential charge retention) This is simply a fact of Lithium ion battery degradation. At 150k the EV will not be able to retain 60% of its initial charge retention. The more the owner operates and recharges their EV, the quicker charge retention degrades. Rapid charging you EV degrades the battery faster than slow charging the battery.
