Recently I got to try a Tesla for the first time but still in 2024 they refuse to include Apple CarPlay in any of their models. However there is a very good reason which directly involves your experience in the car...

I have tried the Model 3 Highland and to be honest it just clicked and made sense. As you say Car Play is not needed and thanks for showing as I hadn't known many of the apple apps were alse available within the system. I even found the lack of stalks a non issue. Also to me looking at the road and then glancing at the sat nav, where I can also see my speed was more sense. Saved the extra step of looking in front of me at the speed, as you would do on all other non Teslas.

@npoleary Месяц назад
Most often you can get the car’s app registered to you. Many dealers will give you a hand and may need to see a V5 document and proof of ID. In the case of leasing you usually won’t have a V5 so something to prove you’re using it for the lease will do like a delivery note. Sometimes you can do it yourself but I guess it depends on the lease company’s terms so you’ll have to check with them to be sure. I’ve never known it not to be okay though!

I do think thats a big omission from this video, carplay isnt just about spotify or apple music, its a huge part of the integration for voice control over your phone for making calls and sms without having to touch anything. Im starting my research about Tesla and this is something Im currently trying to track down info on
@npoleary
@npoleary 26 дней назад
True…but I’m fairly certain that the reason they don’t have it is because for the average person who’s jumping into an electric car for the first time will most likely connect CarPlay if they have used it before. The problem being is that it will ruin your experience in a Tesla. You won’t be able to search for charge points, you won’t be able to precondition the battery when going to one, you also won’t have EV optimised routes with what your range will be when you get there and probably a few more points too that I haven’t thought of.
@markmcleod2322

@@npoleary Guess it depends on the use case. I obviously dont have the numbers, but i would think the majority of tesla owners would be those doing routine drives/commuting/normal use on roads they know vs a smaller number trying to use Tesla's to travel distance. Which would mean normal functionality would have been a better focus. But id say its also a deeper strategic decision not to use the normal services. Not a problem though, appreciate the video. Going to test one this weekend but seems like so many simple normal driving functions are inhibited by their desire to remove all the buttons and i think that will get my goat too much to go this way

He could but then it wouldn’t work with superchargers. Apple have an unbelievable strict criteria for CarPlay. I’ve read some of the documents and icon size, to button placement, they control a lot of that interface and only allow certain apps. Sadly CarPlay can’t read an EV’s state of charge on the battery which technically would mean the ownership experience would be worse as it wouldn’t precondition the battery or even show you the chargers and the most optimum route.

The navigation from Tesla is Google Maps, which own Waze so Google themselves run it. The only difference with Waze is that there’s the community reporting function which is amazing. The huge downside of a 3rd party app like that is that it would hinder your experience with an EV. This would mean, no pre-conditioning for the battery, no searching for charge points etc If Tesla were able to, chatting with Google to implement a “Waze like interface” as an option that offers the same functionality would go down very well for Tesla owners! Tesla cars are the biggest con of all time, they are ugly cars to start with, batteries are the biggest issue. How long the they last, what happens if you want to sell the car in 5 to 10 years. You cannot trade them in, you cannot get a bank loan to buy one. To replace a battery if virtually impossible and will cost an absolute fortune. If everyone bought a battery car as most world Governments want you to do by 2035, where is all the power going to come from to charge the batteries. Has anyone actually thought this through. In America sales of electric cars have gone backwards.The biggest con job of the 21st century.
