Congratulations. And definitely I as an Army soldier think you made the correct choice going with AF as opposed to Army at the age you're coming in. Not only physically but also emotionally. Trust me, you wouldn't believe how much more restrictive and childlike the Army is compared to the Air Force and Navy (which is in the middle between Army and Air Force). I was just at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio several months ago, and I had older Army trainees complain to me how much they are treated more like little moronic children compared to the other branches. An 18 year old kid in the Air Force, because he's Air Force, while he/she can't just do absolutely anything, is allowed to go somewhere without having "battle buddies" (or I think AF calls it "wingman") *ALL THE TIME EVERYWHERE* just because he/she is AF......... as opposed to a *thirty year old grown ass man in the Army, who is not even allowed to go to the bathroom by himself just because he's Army. I am not making that up* . Good luck and congratulations.

Hey I'm about to turn 19 in less than 3 weeks and I have been training myself to join the air force. I'm still probably a year away from enlisting but is there anything specific that I should be going for such as goals?
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 11 месяцев назад
@@fishy_vinny since air force arguably is the most selective on their recruiting next to the coast guard, i'd say do some things educationally that can make you stand out. So, i'm thinking maybe going to community college and getting at least 15 college credits, which is five courses (a course is 3 credits). You can sign up for FAFSA financial aid and do this over the course of two semesters, and you should be able to do this all online. And then of course study as hard as you can for the asvab to get as high a score, like at least 70, as possible. What I just said sounds like a whole lot, and maybe it is, and maybe it might not be necessary, but I'm thinking that you should stand yourself out from a lot of other applicants as much as possible.
@fishy_vinny
@fishy_vinny 11 месяцев назад
@@golfery5119 Oh don't worry about that I've already got one year of college under my belt with 31 credit hours and made the deans list my second semester. I had my tuition fully paid for by scholarships and grants. I do need to study for asvab though what are some categories I should study on?

I was in the Air Force during Iraq and Afghanistan. We augmented the Army all the time on convoys, base security , and aircraft security on remote landings. Even after Iraq, we were constantly imbedded with Marines to set up FOBS providing aircraft logistical support and were treated no differently as far as extra duties and night sentry.

I’m glad I’m joining the Air Force I leave in august but I gotta say it’s been the worst process ever I don’t know if it’s recruiters or what but after losing 50 lbs to make the height/weight because they wouldn’t tape me (I’m built more muscular for my height) and scoring 85 on the ASVAB and going for some tech jobs I got denied a 6 year contract and was scrapped to security forces without me even knowing about it. I was informed 3 days later by my recruiter and was told I have a month and just to follow the aim high app for guidance. Haven’t heard back since. A lot of Air Force kids at meps said the same stuff about a lot of the california recruiters so if you’re in cali and you’re going Air Force please do your own research and study and work hard because they won’t help. Point of the story I’m glad I got your videos Jody because it’s given me so much more info on everything Air Force related and without it I wouldn’t have joined Air Force.

No criminal record, charged or anything by the way, but back in 2021 I had a freak incident and was hospitalized due to alcohol intoxication, I also was under 21 at the time. Was wondering if this would be a potential issue showing up on my medical record? I am assuming it will.
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 10 месяцев назад
It most likely will, and would potentially open a can of worms. Because the doctors will want to know how you drank to a point of hospitalization, and determine if you’re a habitual drinker. You’d most likely have to write a detailed explanation of how it happened and why it will never happen again. I’d recommend just being honest with the recruiter and they shouldn’t have an issue working with you. I hope that helps and good luck.

My recruiter did that for about 9 years. I believe in you
@Jodywithawhy

Of course I believe in you. One thing I would note though is loadmaster is a really tough job to get because of limited available loadmaster jobs available. So if you’re going into the Air Force and that’s the only job you want, it may not be a good plan. I would recommend you find a couple of other jobs you’d be interested as well, that way if you don’t get loadmaster you’re not totally bummed. I hope that helps and good luck with everything.

If you’re over the weight limit is it possible to do a body fat test and if so what percent are you required to be
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 10 месяцев назад
I believe the Air Force just changed the body fat standard to 26% for men age 18-29 and 36% for women. They measure your neck and waist to determine that measurement. If your trying to calculate the measurements you can use this site. www.calculator.net/army-body-fat-calculator.html

I’m pretty sure if you’ve self harmed and tell them they will most likely disqualify you, hope you’ve gotten off all the medication but just don’t tell them you have a mental health history because most likely they won’t want to recruit you

Hey Jody, I have 1 dependent my son, and a gf that I haven’t married yet. Would I get paid more if I married her? Does that would make two dependents?
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 9 месяцев назад
You wouldn’t make anymore money for marrying her because you only receive one dependent pay. So no matter how many dependents you have, the pay will be the same. As far as orders though, when you move if you’re not married, the Air Force won’t pay for your girlfriend’s moving expenses.

A recruiter told me that the Air Force is only looking for people with a 3.7gpa or higher to become an officer… how true is that?
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 9 месяцев назад
That’s pretty true. The pool of applicants is so big, and they’re highly qualified. You have to be very competitive to get picked up.

@@Jodywithawhy I have a 3.1 gpa undergrad and getting my masters as well but I fit the requirements and realistically don’t see myself getting a 3.7 gpa would it be easier to go enlisted then pursue officer

Can you join the Air Force at the age of 30 on testosterone replacement therapy. (Being prescribed testosterone by a physician due to low levels in the body)
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy Год назад
You can join at 30. I do believe if you’re currently taking that medication, you’d be disqualified until you’ve stopped. I could be wrong and would recommend you reach out to a recruiter to see what they think.

You first have to make E-5, and then you have to be selected for the special duty from your leadership.

I was born, raised and served in the USAF. In all that time I've been sitting in chairs. Big chairs, little chairs, comfy chairs, padded chairs, blue chairs, all kinds of chairs. While you crawled in mud and turds. It is not my fault you chose unwisely. I was in supply. Our chairs had chairs. Somebody gets a chair dirty we get a brand new one out of storage and take the dirty one to the closes army camp and push it out the back of the truck. And how about those comfortable chairs where airmen sit with their fingers over a launch button that destroys the entire world. No trigger finger sitting in a ditch can beat that. Our chow halls had plush captains chairs that we sat in while we ate our 5 star gourmet meals served on fine imported porcelain dishes. How's that MRE you eating? You see that A-10 that just saved all your sorry worthless butts. You call that a flying autocannon. Nope, that's a saved-your-butt canon hanging off of a flying chair. Brrrrrt! We defend the whole world while sitting in chairs. Just imagine what we could do while standing up. Maybe you don't want us to stand up. Never mind, it's not worth getting out of our chairs, it's nap time. ----------- 1977-1981. 23rd TAC, Flying Tigers. They told us, in the event our base was overrun, to pick a weapon off a dead marine and make it back to the rendezvous point. Semper Fi Marine! You soldiers that walked into and flew out of our base fully equipped and going to God knows where and we never saw you return. All my respect! We only sit so all of you can stand.

oversimplification but the general idea is yeah, the AF is less physically intensive than the Army is, with also less nonsense.

Hey Jody I’ve been thinking about joining the Air-Force for awhile and lately more than before and I’ve made a list of things to know/do before hand, do you have an Instagram or something that I could maybe send it to you on and you could give your thoughts on it? My dad was also in and my friend is in it right now too so I feel having not just 1 but 3 people too get perspectives on would be good

Hello, I'm hoping somebody can give me some answers. Im 23 years old, & spoke with an Air Force recruiter recently. Didn't sign anything just filled a quick questionnaire about myself & had a conversation. I wrote down & mentioned to the recruiter that 3 years ago i had a Class C misdemeanor, assault on family member, (sibling to be specific) charges weren't pressed, but I was fingerprinted, booked overnight. A couple months later in front of a judge, pleaded guilty. It was dismissed with the conditions being a fine & online anger management course. The recruiter told me I would need a waiver that he would only do if I scored well on the ASVAB, & if it's approved I would have to go in as "Open mech". Is he telling the truth that my jobs would be limited to maintenance? And most importantly, am I dead in the water? I've been trying to research morality waivers and it's very confusing, is my charge a felony in the eyes of the Air Force? Will the Air Force see "assault" and not even give me a chance? Would I not be able to enlist in any combat roles? I know waivers are all different but if anybody can give me some advice or answers, i would greatly appreciate it.
