Im not looking for a row. The situation is very precarious because most farmers have no food at home. If the fossil fuels did not arrive in Irish ports what is in supermarkets would disappear overnight and the Irish would starve. No fuel equals no farming, processing or retail trade. I hope it does not take that to wake Paddy out of his farming coma. Well done for having some foods at home. I hope you will extend the range.
Farmers can own their farm and farm it with aid of contractors etc til they are old as you like. No matter to anyone. They can rent it out if they wish. Nothing to do with minister or you or anyone else. If you want to quit when your 60 or 65 or 70 or 75 or when ever, and get old and fat and weak; thats on you. You go for it boi
Hello sir i am from Nepal. Sir if you have any type of work in your farm than please help me i have 2 years experience in dairy farm and 3 years in tractor driving. Please sir.
The massive elephant in the farmers field is that Irish farmers dont want to know about food, added value, retail prices and income achieved and embracing the consumer. Instead the consumer is lambasted. Add this food absence to the retail cost of production for a commodity reward and it is obvious that farming is Not a business. Massive EU taxpayers money is involved but dying out too. Eu budget was 73% for farmers and now is 37%. Farmers are a shameful disgrace as they feed their families from the supermarkets making the enemy stronger at their own expense and then keep voting for FF/FG. How can such people be helped!!!!
Really.... the problem in the room is the beef barron. The supermarkets. Imagine growing a field of carrots. They are ready for harvesting. The supermarket goes and imports cheaper carrots and tells you the price they are willing to give you. There are no other options for the farmer. Why would a supermarket do this? They do it because they can and it's makes them far more money. The government does nothing. The minister for agriculture does nothing. The farmer stops growing vegetables. It's not worth the risk. Do you know how much a carrot harvester costs? And these people have the audacity to pretend to care about the environment.
You completely ignore my points re food and its absence in farmers lives plus all the repetitive marching and voting patterns. The farmers are easily taken for granted because they facilitate it
@michaeloconnor9809 because your talking nonsense. Someone i'm guessing from a city that produces no food. Have you any idea the knowledge one must have to grow food. Farmers are being pummeled by the free market I terms of prices and also by the green agenda. How can you on one hand make a farmer produce less food then allow the supermarkets import what they like. Cheaper substandard food. The free market doesn't work when you are constantly penalizing Farmers. Their job has become impossible. Most dairy farmers are working 14 hours a day, 7 days a week for little reward. I guarantee you the amount of food produced in Ireland is going to fall because no one wants to farm they way things are being done. We are headed for 10,000 acre ranches all because of government departments and policies.
I come from a farm and village background. I worked 6 years in meat factories, sheared sheep and milked cows. When you talk about farmers producing food you actually mean the production of tillage tonnage, weight gain on birds and animals and milk in the main. You do not mean food per say because farmers dont want to know about food. Did you ever even attempt to have any complete meal from your own fields. Drive around rural Ireland. Where are the signs outside farms offering ANYfood for sale. Nowadays the IFA and others paint the consumers as trouble.makers. you are in massive denial and you are in a majority of farmers. The function of farming is always food but the biggest and shameful fact is that Irish farmers by a hige majority have none at home from the homeplace. Outrageous.
@michaeloconnor9809 but you are not a farmer for various reasons. Ie you wouldn't make a living and the hours worked make it unappealing. I hear what you're saying, however. The game is rigged. The vegetable sector depends on the supermarket, the beef sector depends on Larry Goodman. He has the only offal license in the country. The systems of government Inc the IFA who are a joke. How do farmers sell food directly to the consumer? Some are trying, but there are enormous barriers to this. How do farmers achieve this? I do eat my own home grown beef, milk, fruit and vegetables.
There are lots young people who want to farm. It’s crap that government put on farmer with rules and processors not paying decent price. That’s problem not another stupid scheme
You're right - there's definitely a lot of young people passionate about farming. It’s frustrating when regulations and low prices make it so tough to get ahead (driven by EU policies?)
worst minster of agriculture since the foundation of the state death by 1000 cuts putting longer slurry spending ban fertiliser register to starv farmers to death not be able to claim back vat on milk tank because there mobile! tb is out of control in most parts of Ireland and Charlie is asleep about it , it won't be forgotten in the ballot box next election
