Winglets are designed to enhance aircraft performance by minimizing the effects of wingtip vortices, reducing lift-induced drag, and improving takeoff and climb performance. They also contribute to fuel efficiency, making them a valuable addition in an industry driven by cost efficiency and environmental concerns.
Despite these benefits, Boeing chose a different path for the 787. Instead of traditional winglets, the 787 is equipped with raked wingtips. This video explains it all!

Wasn't it Boeing who discovered you could get the benefits of a real winglet with a raked wingtip, something that was first implemented on the Boeing 777-200LR/300ER models? That's why the 747-8, 787 and 777-8/9 models all use raked wingtips instead of a winglet.

Winglets make sense when either the wingspan is limited, or the structure of the wing does not allow a larger wingspan. Otherwise, improved wingtips are more efficient. Winglets also give better stability around the length axis. Prof. Eppler and Rudi Lindner made a series of tests with model sailplanes and found that turning up the outmost quarter of the wing by 12° gives optimum improvement. I flew with such a sailplane, and it was excellent to handle. About the performance, I had to believe them.

Great video from a promising new Creator! Great job! I think the new wing is a true feature of the Boeing 787 and the folding style makes a lot of sense. That said, I don't think I'll be trying any 737 variants or any 787's for the forseeable future. Too much sketchy news from and around Boeing for me to use their product. But I like your video!
