The Chronicles of Riddick Escape From Butcher Bay is a classic. The 2004 released video game has stood the test of time thanks to a recent remastering, but the game was already a classic before that. Thanks to excellent design, the game is still a sharpshooter, wonderful stealth mechanics, and just plain fun. Playing as Vin Diesel's infamous Riddick has never been better as the character feels like he was pulled right off the big screen. I really enjoyed going down memory lane on this one. Lost and Found will be including video games from now on. Honestly, the process was A LOT of fun. Why this game isn't brought up more frequently when people discuss influential action games of 2004 like Doom 3, Half-Life 2 and Halo 2 is beyond me, its phenomenal and has aged better then some of those games.

I love most how you traverse the entirety of a futuristic and grimy prison. It really was laid out so well and is up there with the Savastapol station from Alien Isolation.

i swear most people got their feelings for this game conflated with the movie that came out around the same time that left a bad taste in people's mouths. But the game is a masterpiece, pure and simple.

Played it on the original Xbox when it came out and later played it on PC where it even rivaled Doom 3 in graphics technology back in 2004, in fact it was critically one of the best games that year and in my opinion the best movie licensed game of all time. It was just a huge surprise when it came out, in a year filled with heavy hitters like Half-Life 2 on PC and Halo 2 on the Xbox. I do prefer the classic PC version instead of Assault on Dark Athena, with one or two tweaks it still runs great on any Windows PC, still have both original Xbox and PC copies of the game.

I thought it was a great game because of the backstory you get of how Riddick got his sight, which ties in with the movies

I still wish he really got his eye shine through surgery, it made him seem more methodical in becoming an apex predator. I'm grateful at least that the idea they used wasn't stupid.

Man o man is this a great game. I didn't know in only 18 months? dang. Maybe one of the best licensed movie video games. This is a must play even today! Well done on the video Mr. Tot. Vin really wanted riddick to blow up. You can tell he was invested in this.

It really is. It still holds up incredibly. It is really a testament to the game design that it does!

Yep this was such a weird game because it was like some D-list sci-fi movie that nobody cared about. So you had to sort of say, yeah it's a Riddick game, you know that Vin Diesel guy from Pitch Black, but wait listen it's not complete shit, it's actually an amazing game. I only played it because a PC games journalist recommended it to me, if I saw it in the shop my eyes would have passed right over it, assuming it was shit because, well, why would it be good? But turns out it IS good! And not just good, I am willing to say EFBB is a better game than Half-Life 2 and Far Cry, both of which came out in the same year, 2004. HL2 had its physics, yes, and Far Cry had the foliage and the water, etc - but in terms of actual GAME, like game fun, and overall polish and coolness of the game, I genuinely think EFBB has them beat.

@@NaterTot hah yeah I wouldn't say it was a bad movie. I saw it in the cinema, it was ok. It had a lot of potential but the monsters let me down. I group it with Mimic as a 90s Aliens-like movie that isn't as good as Aliens due to crapper monsters. Although even Alien movies themselves failed on two tries in the 90s, to be as good as 1986's Aliens.

I purchased Dark Athena maybe 8 months ago at a local retro game store because it came with a copy of Escape from Butcher Bay. The other day I decided to finally play it. I must say, IT HOLDS UP WELL!

its a shame that the Riddick games were not upgraded to work with the xbox 1. I rather use game pad controller so enjoyed this on 360. But, Xbox never included these Riddick games in their backward compat upgrade to xbox 1 from the 360.

This game has gamepad support, you can use xbox one controllers on the pc version and remap the button to your liking.

@@Lonely_Soldier used Pinicle gamepad pgm but it stopped working with win 10 64. Never got any other PC program to work properly with gamepad. Was hoping xbox 1 would of made it available again.

I played this game start to finish 5 times back in the day. Only games I ever played over more than once are Kotor, halo 2, halo 3 Top 10 games of all time for me

For sure. I've went through and probably doubled the list of games in comparison to TV shows/movies. This is just off the head, but I probably have at least 30-40 that I'd love to do (that aren't Halo, Call of Duty, etc). So, I'm curious to see how this episode does with the community, as that will change whether or not I fully commit to video games for Lost and Found. I certainly hope so, as it is something I'm REALLY passionate about.

Cecil, thanks for the kind words. I took a leap of faith and pursued video games under the Lost and Found guise. I'm hoping the community likes it. This isn't changing from films and television. I'll still make that the focal point, but man, that was a lot of fun!

As soon as Doom 3 PSVR was released, all I could think of is how I would give anything to have Escape from Butcher Bay ported to VR.

What comes to other AC games, Black Flag is great although the main character was quite far from Ezio. He was ok but not great.

Why can't more games be like this? With the budgets we have today, they could easily 10x the quality and length of a game like this. They should make another Riddick movie and follow it up with a true sequel to Butcher Bay (Athena was pretty bad). The minimalist HUD design, the full-on 1st person model where you can see your limbs and have a body that moves like a body instead of being a floating box, the excellent use of self shadows, the odd movements you encounter when you aim (you can't really precise aim very well in this game), the slight fishbowl effect when you crouch.. all those things would be wonderful in a new FPS, but also in a multiplayer. But no one is doing it. What a shame.

The prison break part was interesting, but at the later stage it became a generic shooter game and I was not very impressed. It is a worth-to-play game, but not superior good for me.

That's a fair assessment. I actually agree with most of these thoughts! I just think it was executed well enough
