The first commercial use of EFI was originally a Bendix (US) design that AMC and Chrysler attempted, but it failed, and was sold to Bosch, who made it work, and it took off in Europe in the 70s.

Electronics on Detroit Diesels dates back to 1981.

John Deere was the one who engineered this engine, they were using the big two strokes and wanted a new four stroke, they partnered up with JD to make them a new big four cylinder tractor engine, the 50 series, when john Deere dropped the idea they made the 60 series for semi trucks with the exact same cylinder head design jd made

There is actually a 3rd size the 14L engine. I put new injectors in on on an RV.

Can confirm, they are great. They can't be turned up to crazy Cummins numbers, but the numbers they can turn safely are plenty high enough for heavy log hauling and similar stuff. Still one of the cheapest engines to rebuild. Parts are everywhere. Very good engine to work on as well, it's not over complicated in anyway.

The 92 Series had EFI in ‘83, called the Silver 92 iirc. They still use these in the military to this day. In the words of Charlie Murphy, “Wrong. WRONG!”

I would of thought the ddec on the 2 strokes would of been before the series 60?

You mentioned carbureted engines, but this replaced mechanical injection. There's no such thing as a carbureted diesel.

First of all he was not Detroit It was a John Deere engine develop. John Deere decide they don’t want no more this engine because it was burning too much oil in that sell it to Detroit
