Viewing the Imperial Navy as more of a police force than a military helps explain a lot of the equipment and vehicle decisions.

Several droideka series were re-used as walking support turrets, but that was it, older gene 1 series of battle droids were re-used as utility droid, considering they were in large numbers and it was easy to upload new plans and order into their brains, this made them useful for operating machinery, cleaning and maintenance etc, tactical droids were re-used as traffic control and logistics to help organize, but that was it,

Another point: having a heavily automated combat force comprised of mostly droids is also risky, as a Rebel commando team could infiltrate, say, the Imperial equivalent of a Lucrehulk carrier, slice a few bits of code and Gotcha! The Alliance now has thousands of combat units to deploy

Two What-If episode ideas. 1, if Anakin won and only lost an arm (not strong enough or willing to seize the throne right away), what would The Empire be like if Vader showed the face of the famous General Skywalker? 2, if Anakin died of his injuries or sadness before Palpatine "saved" him, who would Palpatine have used as his main sith enforcer and #2 in The Empire?

The creation of Lord Nyax also wasn’t cheap, and even mass-producing something similar (maybe a bionic lizard or something) would still cost a lot per unit, and even more so if it is necessary to find people who will put up with such extensive modifications being done to them (leaving aside that anti-droid sentiment led to people being somewhat averse to artificial limbs, especially if the limbs looked obviously mechanical or otherwise off).

I will always be an advocate for imperial droid armies if you add a front line of droids before sending your troops in, your troops will feel safer and be more willing to fight knowing the droids (lifeless beings) are absorbing the natural dangers of being the first ones onto the battlefield they would have made excellent auxiliary forces, ship guards, disposable troops to send in when the loss of life makes no sense there are many other reasons to use droids more than they did, while it would have made things feel less imperial it would have made way to much logical sense.

This idea comes up in a bizarre way in some online discussions, particularly in a Star Wars vs Imperium of Man scenario. On paper the Empire would be in big trouble especially in Ground Combat situations at least to begin with - Space combat, not so much. If the Empire finds itself sucked in to a proper war with the Imperium of man then they need to pull out all the stops simply to prevent the Imperium from bulldozing them. Thing is the Empire can do this (40K fans outraged at the very idea). The Empire actually has the industrial base and though it means drastic changes to the SW galaxy at large. A fully geared up Empire under no illusions that it's in the fight of it's life can mass produce various types of battledroid simply as a stop gap measure while the rest of the military expands and re-equips. Could see some especially super sneaky designs being developed and produced in the trillions to counter the threat of Space Marines etc.

#AskEck I have one question: What was the original Plagueis' plan to overthrow the republic and the jedi order? Considering what really happened, the events in Phantom Menace seem to be important steps leading to the foundation of separatist movement and creation of the clone army (which happend after the episode I. when Plagueis was already dead). Sidious and Plagueis had orchestrated situation which brought Palpatin to the position of High Chancellor. That was success. But the invasion/occupation itself failed and Sidious' own apprentice was cut in half in the process. So what was really Plagueis' plan? Was the failed occupation part of the plan, or was there some other plan, which was foiled and Sidious had to reforge it into the clone wars?

The droids weren't used to avoid a continuity issue. In canon it was to avoid more unrest. Ultimately it would have made far more sense for Palpatine to use both the CIS and Republic forces once he was the Emperor. No rebellion would ever be able to stand up to the combined might. He had both vast numbers and elite troops. He would have enough troops and droids to occupy every planet with huge numbers.
@mouse3872
@mouse3872 8 месяцев назад
I think something that should be taken into account is the idea that the Droid army wasnt actually as large or powerful as its implied to be in some extended material as everything we are given is not really direct information but rather Hearsay. I wouldnt be surprised if the Droid armies number are inflated significantly just so the CIS looks more dangerous thus making the Republic more like an underdog the following are some extra points to consider as well. 1. Battle droids are Highly susceptible to large EMP attacks the Republic had already developed some weapons that could disable entire Droid armies with one drop of a bomb. 2. Hacks.. Droids could easily be hacked to switch sides the Repubic did this a few times. 3. The mass shut down order... This goes in line with the hacking portion but if a enemy discovers the mass shutdown order then the entire military is disabled overnight there is no equivalent to organics. The closest thing uou can get is a virus but that would take Months to sweep through the ranks of a organic military and in that time the Empire or Republic could create a vaccine. 4. The droids army had already proven to be a failure as Quelling rebellious worlds and in many cases even made it worse. The Clones did a much better job and Palps probably assumed that a recruited army could do even better due to inspiring loyalty. 5. Loyalty.. droids fight without really questioning orders which means if a general, senator, admirial, or Moff decided to seize power for themselves they could easily use the droids to do so even if they had some failsafes within their code that can be easily altered possibly even in mass as an individual bcould have access to a factory or multiple factories. Organics if they are ordered to overthrow the Emperor/Chancellor could question orders or straight up refuse the order.

#AskEck I have noticed in Star Wars dated back from the beginning of the clone wars where clones wear Phase I trooper armor then replaced with Phase II trooper armor as the war dragged on until Order 66. Then, they replaced clones with humans via recruitment along with a new update of their armor in the early years of the empire. In legends, not in canon since first order armor is different, why did the empire keep that design of their armor and equipment until the Fel Empire if they could just update their armor for the satisfaction of the Stormtroopers that wear them?
@Enkate_Tief

IIRC, armor, that the Fel Empire's stormtroopers use, is supposed to be a modern piece of armor that looks just like Phase 3 armor (aka stormtrooper armor) due to out of universe reasons.

There is another side to the answer. To put it simply, Droids aren't living soldiers. It ties into why the clones were decommissioned. It's never stated outright but through out Bad Batch we see the clones being replaced by Storm Troopers. Why? Because they're cheaper? Yeah right. Clones are easily 3-4 times better than the average storm trooper. Even if a Storm Trooper is half as expensive as a clone trooper, it's a net loss. No there was something else at play, and that was society. As you said the Droids and aliens were vilified. But look at the idea of the Storm Troopers. Assuming they survive their terms, they would return to their home worlds, and found a family with some kids, who in turn will strengthen the pro-empire mind set. There is also the fact that Palpatine is a master manipulator. He can't manipulate droids, but he can manipulate humans even with out his force abilities. Rather he can manipulate other factors to force more "rebellous cells" to rise up, giving him a new enemy to vilify and further justify the military. And when I say Rebellious cells, I don't mean like Mon Motha's group, but rather Saw Gerrera, extremists who can't see beyond the next engagement, the ones who turn to violence for quick results. So on the one hand palpatine has the Storm Troopers, who are likely portrayed as noble warriors and defenders, but are really a means to indoctrinate more people producing new generations of people with pro-empire views while on the other he has "Dangerous terrorists" like Saw Gerrera as an enemy he can point the Storm Troopers at. It's a perpetual power management scheme with Palpatine at the heart of it all. The Random x-factor was Mon Mothhma herself. She did what even many of the rebels themselves didn't think could be done and formed an alliance that saw the alliance's efforts magnified over time, something people like Gerrera couldn't comprehend.

It's at least 3+ million, though. Which is still tiny, but that is not counting the additional younger Clones still in training on Kamino (we see cadets continue to train until TBB S1, so after O66). Additionally, non-Clone volunteers enlisted and served in support functions and at least hundreds of thousands of Judicials transferred into the military. Planetary and sector defense forces also either integrated or supported the Republic military. the official cover was most likely that Anakin was killed in the purge just like the rest of them, there wasn't a jedi that was ever publicly announced as just missing or alive. They were all killed off to the public eye for trying to overthrow the empire. With nobody really knowing his status as Palpatine's apprentice outside of Maul, he wouldn't be excluded from that list.

The official cover story was that Anakin Skywalker was killed by Darth Vader defending the younglings in the jedi temple.
@sergeantassassin3425
@sergeantassassin3425 8 месяцев назад
To answer the first question: Anakin was depicted as having died during Operation: Knightfall. He was supposedly the last surviving Jedi, having survived everything the clones threw at him, even attempting to protect the Younglings at one point. According to Imperial records, it took Darth Vader personally to deal with Anakin, and it was NOT an easy fight. Vader did manage to win, and slew Anakin, thus bringing the Siege of the Jedi Temple to a close. This reported victory over the Hero with No Fear catapulted Vader to instant status-symbol in the Empire, though it did take some time for the worlds further from the Core to hear about it. It put the fear of God into the Jedi who learned about it, though. Anakin was considered one of the best and strongest the Order had to offer, and Vader killed him. To most Jedi, it meant that you could not fight Vader, you could only run. The second question: If Anakin didn't need the suit. There are three ways this could happen: 1) He won the duel on Mustafar and killed Kenobi. 2) He lost the duel on Mustafar, but didn't get dismembered. 3) He lost the duel, was dismembered, but wasn't burned. The first one would cause ripple effects in the timeline, as it was Vader's defeat on Mustafar that caused so much headache for Palpatine, the Empire, and gave the galaxy room to breathe. If Vader had won, the Empire likely would not have been beaten, at least as we know it. Chances are good that Vader would have eventually overthrown Palpatine and gone on to be Emperor himself. The second scenario would probably lead to a similar result as the first, albeit with a minor setback on the Imperial side. The third scenario would require Anakin to be fitted with new prosthetics, and would be debilitating but not crippling. Vader would still need to undergo rigorous training to regain at least a portion of his lost power, and would likely still wear a modified suit to help with his cybernetics. It would not be nearly as extensive as the original, not needing a life-support system built into the suit just to keep Vader from flatlining. He also arguably would have been weaker than OG Vader, as the constant pain his burn injuries caused fed the Dark Side, letting him tap into it far easier and more deeply than he would have otherwise. At times, his rage in the Dark Side of the Force could surpass even Palpatine's, usually when all his buttons were pressed.

@@Only1199 Seems awfully weird for the Empire to give Anakin a heroic sounding death, to die defending children. With Palpatine trying so hard to vilify the Jedi, you'd think he'd lay on the propaganda way thicker. Something like: "War Criminal Anakin Skywalker killed in action during Vader's raid of the Jedi temple. Holo recordings shows footage of Anakin massacring the cult's child soldiers to prevent their rescue and deprograming by Republic troops." Also the obligatory: "Among the many prominent Jedi killed at the scene, he was the only one who was not granted the rank of master."

#AskEck If you want an interesting topic to cover, maybe consider one on the 'Drawbacks of the Force". One of the common criticisms I hear of the Disneyverse is how it "breaks the Force". Protagonists need to do a thing? Suddenly, the Force. One of the advantages I think the Legendsverse has is how it established early on with the Trawn and Dark Empire trilogies is how they established limitations and drawbacks with future novels and adaptations expounding on the concept. Sidious, and the Sith Emperor of the Old Republic Era, both used the Dark Side in such a way that they practically became walking corpses. Some Light Side users became so enamored that they would loose a sense of time and/or self, like the Grandmother in the "Courtship of Princess Leia", who had to ask what decade it was. On the flip side, characters like Plagueis and Grandmaster Luke Skywalker would manage to avoid, and even overcome, some of these drawbacks.

Hey Ecks, for your 1 millionth subs video you should remaster one of your first ship vs. videos as a throwback for your older subs or something fun like that

#AskEck Did the Rebel Alliance use any walkers or ground vehicles aside from recycled AT-ATs or AT-STs? We don’t see it in the movies or shows and I’d like to see it discussed. Also you’re super close to 1M subs and you truly deserve it and more

#AskEck How did the Kaminoans supply the clone army in the beginning? I can buy that the clones are eating algae/kelp bricks and nutrient pastes, but materials for the armor, weapons, ground vehicles, ships etc. before they were revealed to the Republic? I thought that Kamino was, relatively at least, out of the way and largely unknown to most of the galaxy. Keep up the great videos, best of luck on hitting 1 million!

Did the Ancient Sith know about the Star Forge? Ajunta Pall alludes quite heavily to the treasure of the Ancient Sith from his era to be the Star Forge, but I have yet to see this referenced anywhere else. I don't believe anyone other than the Rakatta, Revan, and Malak had anything to do with the Star Forge, or even had any knowledge whatsoever about its existence, and yet Pall seems to state otherwise and the Star Map is located within Naga Sadow's tomb, which couldn't have been a coincidence. Continuity error? Plot thread left unresolved? #askeck

Few things are more dangerous to the security of a state than a large number of unemployed young men. Filling the military with them not only gives Palpatine a tool, but it also keeps them out of rebel or criminal organizations.

#AskEck Should Thrawn have used battle droids in his campaign against the New Republic in Legends? Why or why not? And if he did, what changed might've occured?

Thrawn was a commander who believed battle were won mainly by loyalty and devotion to the cause. He would have hated battle droids except to operate machinery.

@@Royce0508You can be the most brilliant mind in the world (or galaxy I guess) but if you don’t have capable soldiers or resources, it means nothing. The main reason the CIS lost was because of an incapable army despite having billions of battle droids next to around 6 million clones.

I think another reason potentially is the fact that droids are not really sensitive or connected to the force, whereas if you compel sapient living entities which may not be force sensitive per se but still have a slight connection to it, to commit atrocities in the name of the empire and emperor it may serve to further empower the grip the dark side has on the galaxy.

Also: Using living troops makes it harder for people to want to rebel, due to empathy, yes, you'll have people who simply do not care, but a lot of people have more empathy for living beings over droids. Using purely droids, while it'd be "more effective" worlds that go into rebellion would find it far easier to destroy the machines than to destroy people.

"issuing orders from afar" i am sure there is no way to do this with droids. The reasons at the end are kinda weak, i think the only good one is battle meditation and it be nice if they would mention those in the movies. We cant let books fix the movies, just cause.
