Saw this model in that colour recently in Sydney driving by when I was on a bicycle ride. Found this video here and was reminded of my teenager time when this car was top of the line. The design is timeless.
The first time I saw a 550, I fell absolutely head over heals in love! Still love the F40 and F50, but dang this car isn't flashy and obvious! Just perfect IMO! ❤️❤️❤️
Nice car! Out of college, my friends gave me a model of one to put on my desk at my first corporate job. A couple decades later, it's actually obtainable. This is one of my favorite Ferrari's, especially with a gated shiftier. Perfection!
Coming form Ferrari ownership of that era my advice is unless the weight of the service documents from each service matches the weight of the car walk away. There are so many things that go wrong with the intermediate modern era of Ferrari (95 through 2005) the addage of, "Buying a Ferrari is only the down payment" is no joke , the rest is like a variable mortgage. Eg what cars do you know that have a 3 year/30,000Kilometer timing belt service.
Alfa Romeo Spider v6 916 has 3 year timing belt service. Cost is around 900 euro so 300 a year. Now back to low maintenance Ferrari.... low is 0.40 euro per km I guess? Even if it would be that low (2k a year while driving 5000km a year seems close to impossible to me) the car will cost you 1 euro per km easily due to the thirsty 12 cilinder. Buy 1 with 100k km on the odo meter. Drive it 10 years and put 50k km on it. What will be the total cost? Those questions are never answered anywhere for a reason. My guess is around 75k so all in all 1.50 euro per km.
Another fantastic video. Greetings from Vermont. Damn! I miss living in Newport Coast and tearing-up San Joaquin Hills Rd. I can’t believe they fixed “the dip” 8:00 on uphill lane of San Joaquin Hills Rd. I used to love that dip - and every time I come back to visit I drive up there for nostalgia...thanks for that!!
I had one for 4 years, it was anything but cheap... Motor mounts , ECU, AC, Steering rack $7500, Major $12,000, shrinking dash $5,000 fix, sticky switches $3,000, but I loved the car, and still miss it as it is so smooth. The 458 beats my teeth out.
As a kid growing up this has always been my favorite car ever! Gotta love a gem like this. Great vid and thanks for sharing with us these absolute gorgeous ladies ❤️
There isn't a low maintenance Ferrari, they all require maintenance and specialist maintenance that isn't cheap. But if you can afford one just enjoy it.
These cars are extremely beautiful to look at but i prefer the 456 V12 models better. The 550's only came in standard transmission, where the 456 could be had with an automatic for older drivers who can't handle a manual transmission anymore in their life. Also the 456 cars are the last Ferrari to have the classic pop up headlights. That's a must for me. Although the maintenance on these vehicles is better than the mid-engine Ferrari's they are still NOT cheap to maintain. Services bills are still high and the quality control wasn't very good as i've seen several of these for sale with a multitude of problems. Ferrari may build great engines and transmissions but everything else is a ticking time bomb when it comes to their electronics.
I like this car a lot. I think if I was in the market for a high end sports car I'd try to find one. I also really like the first generation Aston Martin Vanquish.
So much better in every way IMHO, than the 456 GT. I used to love to watch the 550’s in the ALMS. Oh my god, the sound they put out was indescribable and it didn’t hurt that they won a lot. Their sound rivaled, IMO again, the 333sp’s. Speaking of such, maybe you could do a video on the 333sp. I know it’s a purpose built race car, but hey, you did one on the 360 challenge. Although it may be a bit of a challenge to get your hands on one.
If you would have had a chance to drive it properly you wouldnt be regurgitating the same ol line about handling and would find its better in the curves than a 360 or 430
At what time? If your talking about the red vehicle in the corner in the beginning of the video its a detomaso pantera gt5-s Video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-axHvqzA-aM0.html
It's the Fiat Dino, thanks Coleen. Couldn't figure it out. Beautiful car, look forward to the vid. I watched the Detomaso video, was my dream car when I was a kid. Really enjoying the content, thanks again 😁👍
Very few people realize that the 550 Maranello is was Nicolas Cage saw outside the local Starbucks that morning 20 years ago that told him there were too many self indulgent weiners in that town WITH TOO MUCH BLOODY MONEY!!!
That was actually from the movie gone in 60 seconds. He was in the show room saying that line to the sales man while custumers were looking at ferrari 355s. In the back ground was a 328 evolution I believe.
please up your volume on your edits. I forgot to turn my volume waaaaaaaaaaay down after watching your last video and got my ears blown out from another normal video.
@@FerrarisOnline Hi, along the lines of the 550s I like the FF as well. However, this against the s63 Amg. I really want a driver not a bunch of expensive trips to a dealership. Is that possible with an FF? Thank you!
SUMMARY average performance - check! below average looks - check! questionable reliability - check! brazenly overpriced - check! YEP, sounds like an all around winner to me :)
