Killed Olds n kept Buick. Killed Pontiac n kept Chevy. The later Pontiacs all had Chevy engines anyway tho. They were basically the same vehicles. Buick n Olds Chevy n Pontiac. They kept GMC trucks and the tahoe/Yukon. Sierra and Silverado. The ones that didn't sell over their counterparts got cut. I'm sad about it to but that's what it was. Long live the General in all forms💯❤️👑💪🏿
I'm not for GM BUT I WITH NO DOUBT NO REMORSE agree with everything you said. The only thing Buick really had to offer and when they did it still wasn't the same was the Regal
I remember when I bought my 2003 SVT Cobra brand new, I raced one of those. I was like God damn! That Grand Prix is keeping up with me lol. I really couldn't tell the difference. It wasn't until after we raced, the guy followed me into a gas station to talk. Really cool guy he was with his son. Was my 1st time seeing a GTO on the street.
Yeah the GTO failed because Pontiac didn’t market it. Pontiac could still be around if they had cut the line to the Solstice, G8, Firebird/TA and focused on being GMs performance brand.
I will never forget when I witnessed an all black GTO outrunning cops, and the growl the engine made as it turned the corner. Oh and those cops it outran??? Came running 20 seconds later and going down the wrong corner and obviously losing the GTO.🥶
Happy you covered the gtos man, love mine I catch these scat packs by surprise all the time. So funny when they pull up on me at the next light asking me what it is after I dust em 🤣🤣
@@jvionsmith3619 it's a ton of fun, I have the 6.0 with a 6speed. Just make sure to check over the suspension, if you can find one that has been gone thru with aftermarket shocks/struts, bushings and front strut mounts. The stock suspension setup is just kinda weak and the bushings now a days are most always shot due to age (they are rubber stock.) If that stuff hasn't been done just be ready to spend some money on new parts, pedders and whiteline are great brands. Also the stock 2 piece driveshaft is another part that will cause you issues with that carrier bearing and guibos. They can all be replaced but separating the shaft is a pain to get to the carrier bearing but I did it in the garage with my cousin last year. Just gotta do a good lookover of that stuff and you should be good as the engine and trans are very reliable. Lmk if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer to the best of my ability or at least point you in the right direction. My uncle has a g8 gt and he loves it as well, I belive the suspension isn't as much of an issue with those.
I'm glad he spoke on that because that's the same BS that GM did to the late monte Carlos front wheel drive damn I wish they were RWD the value would have been higher
I love my 5th gen goat but the shit part for me is the lack of tire size. Largest that you can get in the stock rear wheels is 245's without rolling the fenders to make sure 255's and 265's don't rub. Any larger than that and you need a body kit and to cut the fenders. Shoulda come with 300's stock.
Look up "lingenfelter GTO cam". Blue car with GTEATR plate, it Sounds amazing. They definitely didn't fail, try finding one with a stick or find a g8 with one it's hard to find unmolested versions. They should have kept up with holdens HSV line and they would still be going strong.
To be fair to the 04-06 GTO, the original (and every other one) looked like a basic pontiac Lemans or Tempest with some add ons. Now they looked good but if you didn't know what you were looking for, you could confuse the one for the other. Plus, the Mustang really only had one body style. All of them (except the Mustang II) were based on the original. The GTO had 5 body styles in it's first 10 years. The 64-65, The 66-67, the 68-72, the 73, and then the 74 which was a Nova clone. So which retro style was Pontiac going to go with??? Love the channel, keep making great videos!!
I have a 05 gto own it since 2015 has 89k miles now but I recommend people to stay away from the autos the 4l65e to weak but I recently got a g8 gt both cars are well built for how old they are
Considering this model Pontiac GTO is from Australia, I believe that Pontiac may have been dropped when Australia stopped making Holden cars. Love the content and your knowledge on all cars and engines etc
Pontiac stopped production around 2010 if I’m not mistaken Holden around 2020. Pontiac’s top models were failing and offered nothing better than the Chevy models so they were wasting money on production. Another theory is GM just wanted the camaro to be a standout model to compete with sales of mustangs you can’t do that with extra competition within your own companies.
The GTO was always planned as a 3 year run, although it did still underperform sales wise. The Monaro it was based on had already been out for years and was at the end of it's model life. The G8 was popular (low mileage V8s are still in the 20K range) and they were planning on bringing the Ute version over, even had a naming contest. Unfortunately in order to receive government bailout funds GM had to trim divisions and Pontiac was one of them.
Hey man, love your videos, best car mods content on youtube in my humble opinion. One question, can you do a video on how to properly build a badass 2003-2006 gto? Thanks a lot. Keep up the good work💯👊🏻
The Pontiac stock suspension was also horrible at the drag strip. I saw one line up with an 04 cobra(also an irs) the gto had so much wheel hop he ran a 14sec quarter
i think there was almost a recall for prematurely wearing out suspension coil springs. On the forums some speculated that it was due to improper loading of straps during lengthy transportation. You figure it probably came from the factory more comfort focused hence the two piece drive shaft with rubber bushing that fails. Then after being shipped across the pacific ocean, then rail, then truck, that lots of miles and opportunity to strap the car down not by the wheels and by the body forcing the coil compressed then they still bounced around. So if they had weak and compromised suspension relatively new then i can't imagine how bad some are 15+ years later with the things people ask the stock components to do. 05 is the lowest production number year and on top of that coincidentally the same year that had a derailment that made them even more scarce new.
First things first when you get a Gto’s that is stock take care of the suspension to illuminate the wheel hop that can also destroy your driveshaft and DEF
Try and get a B18C1 that is from a GSR. Use a B20 head. New NGK spark plugs. Toda Pistons, valve springs. AEM adjustable cam gears, Hondata VTEC controller, spal electric fans, spoon lower degree thermostat, Castrol or Motul full synthetic oil. Cometic or Yonaka Head gasket.
WOW, and I wanted a GTO. I get that your audience is probably all about drag and street racing, but I would love if if you give Holden more credit where more credit is due. Holden's chassis are spectacular for Circuit (Road course) racing cause Holden has been committed to Rd course racing since the 60's, and had raced a full size sedan from about the late 70's up to about 2018. That is why the Camaro and Caddy V's are such great handling performers, and do exceptionally well with the huge bottom end torque the SC LS/LT's put out 🧐..🤷🏾♂️..🖐🏾
The Holden Monaro. The GTO model was revived from 2004 to 2006 model years as a captive import for Pontiac, a left-hand drive version of the Holden Monaro, itself a coupé variant of the Holden Commodore.
Good info. Specially on the G body. My cuz used to get crazy in a mote and a regal always felt like we was going to flip that shit I would always say feels like we going to flip he said we be alright 🤣😂 now this clears things up.
I have an 05 GTO and I swear alot of mustang/challenger guys are afraid of them or they think it's a granprix idk. I just don't get nearly as much action on the street as I did in my s10.
Man I swear everytime I drive my GTO I don't see anything out not a scat pack r/t or anything soon as I get in my Durango I see hella scats hellcats mustangs all types of cars lol
@@GTOKEN_313 same here. But even when I do see a scat pack mustang or even hellcat they don't want no smoke with the GTO. It's crazy how little attention that car gets. I have a fucking AMC Gremlin that gets more looks and thumbs up lol
Hey! Those grand prix gxp and Bonneville sseis are fucking quick too! Hella support and some people out big ass turbos on the Gxps and make stupid lower
cosmo purple metallic was an 04 only year so ls1 is correct the year was off could have had black 06 tail lights. barbados blue metallic was the rarest 04 only color (573) followed by cosmo purple metallic (700) then by pulse red (794) out of 15,740. 05 only color is midnight metallic blue 06 only colors are brazen orange metallic and spice red metallic. Interior color wise purple is the rarest as blue, red and black were offered all years some with more exterior color combinations then others.
I loved my GTO.... but... it had its short comings First was the price... too damn high. Lacked traction on a serious level, and unable to put a bigger tire on the back due to the monaro fender/trunk conversion. and yes, the "chevy cavalier " comments kill me.
Gm could have really been ahead of the game in 2004. Just imagine if they had their own retro idea for the GTO dating back to what they use to look like back in the day. It came out before the 2005 mustang, the mustang that year went retro and so many people loved it and it was cool even though it wasn’t as fast as the GTO. Mustang gained popularity for that styling. But since the GTO wasn’t original and based off the Holden Monaro..the mustang came out retro, then the Camaro a few years later (gm had a nice idea here after ford beat them to the punch lol but it took them a while), then the challenger.
99 Bonneville SSEI, soo overweight for a front loader but that supercharged 3800 made me feel like it carried Civic pounds instead. Fun modern land yacht and semi sleeper looks ate a lot of laptop equipped Civics and it's brake system. If a car was Charlie Sheen, example of one speed, go.
All Pontiac had to do was to bring back the 68 n 69 body style and another true reason the goat failed was that a tall person had a hard time getting in the car
Could you tell me what i could potentially do for my 2004 honda accord coupe, its a v6 right now, but i havent seen really anything on it, please let me know!
Let’s be real, the best version of the GTO (05-06 LS2) was a 4,000lb, 400hp, coupe with handicapped rear tire fitment.. was a turd. You didn’t see those things beating much.
My honest opinion is that they should have kept Pontiac and dropped Buick because Buick is one of their luxury brands needed to focus on performance over some POS mall mobiles Buick used to be really nice and really good cars now they're just absolutely junk
this really isnt all that surprising. GM is known for rebadging cars from other countries, changing small design elements and call it something else and expects it sell like hot cakes in the US.
Those g bodies definitely need a good anti roll bar the g bodie shuffle is for real I’ve owned the cutlass and regal and they will send your ass to god if you don’t watch.
Now he says it's a copy and paste of a Australian Holden Monaro I wonder if this guy knows that they're made by GM in Australia and secondly I wonder if this guy knows Pontiac haven't made an engine since 1979 when a plant burnt down after that they start using Oldsmobile Motors and after that they start using Chevy motors
have you even sat in one. like gd people rip it a new one because its not pontiac american enough and on the other side people rag on pontiac for its quality and cladding of that era. the car is built extremely well likely the best gm ever had at the time its got green illumination from the factory just like the foot wells have a green plastic coating on the incandescent bulbs.
