Just ordered my boys these for Christmas…they’ve never had one before and have really never played video games….but after many years of them watching their cousins having them…we broke down and decided to get our 3 boys one each. So for me…I think for not having one, the OLED version is the way to go.

I think if they would have dropped the original switch price to 250 and sold this one at 300 it would be a much easier pill to swallow

The Switch OLED is for someone like me. My OG Switch is showing its age, I barely get an hour and a half on the battery. I’m gonna pass it down to my 6 year old daughter. I play 100% in handheld mode, so the OLED screen will be a very nice upgrade to what I had.

If Nintendo had upgraded the processor aswell, many people would upgrade, myself included, instead I'll stick with my current switch, cos it's basically THE SAME 😆

If anything, the Switch Lite should have had an OLED screen from the start. That would make it a compelling purchase for portable-only players, or even for regular Switch owners.

Glad to see Rich review Tech again! I don't know why but he's the only one I can watch reviews from these days. Anyway, my OG switch has seen better days. I've got it at launch, and while the parts are functional, it looks like a tiger got his claws on it. My plan is to upgrade to the OLED eventually and keep my OG switch for experimental homebrew stuff. Lately been getting into more emulation and its a fun hobby to experiment with.

I kinda don’t have a reason to watch this video because it’s old and I’ve had a switch OLED for like a year, but I would like to compliment how well this video is put together. I enjoy all the videos on this channel (old stories, old news, new videos.) As funny as the meme is, it’s nice to see a professional review from Rich.

Not worth the "new upgrades" The screen looks nice, but the internals are in need of an upgrade to justify the new model.

It's a good upgrade from the version 1 if you play primarily handheld or if you're getting into the Switch scene this is definitely the choice to go for, but for someone like me for instance who plays their Switch primarily docked it's not worth the purchase. But I am interested in the OLED's dock which I'm happy will be sold separately.

Well, I'm going through a divorce and my Switch went with my son and my Switch Lite went with my ex wife. So, I went from having access to two Switches to none. So...I picked up the Switch OLED and I love it. So, I guess it's a product for me.

I was trying to watch this video on my One Plus 8T while I played Metroid Dread on my OLED Switch and I couldn't here much of the video...it shows you how much louder this new Switch is, and the screen has way less glare now so I can play much better out doors in the sun. The screen quality is almost as good as playing on the TV so that's that, this upgrade is really worth it for handheld users.

The problem I have with people having a problem with the OLED is that people are disappointed because everyone believed it would be a 4K Switch. If none of those "leaks" ever happened, the OLED would've come out and people would've seen it as a nice redesign instead of a supposed "upgrade". Like a PS4 slim was to a PS4. It wasn't an upgrade, just a better design. Nintendo never said this would be a more powerful Switch or anything like that, the rumors is what caused disappointment

As someone who never bought a switch, it's for me. Well worth the extra $50, but probably only if you don't have one already. That said I'm just going to get a Steam Deck instead, I really only care about a handful of Nintendo games like Pokémon and Zelda. I'll still just pick up a Switch Lite once used ones go for $100 or so.

I was initially excited when Nintendo first announced the OLED switch. IMO it’s really not worth spending $350 just for a OLED screen and no new changes internally ( if you already have a switch)

I'm glad they added a Ethernet port built in on the dock but they should've done that to the original switch when it came out

I see it as a nice option. It's just like when Nintendo released the Gameboy Advance SP 101 model the year after the DS released. Many swear by that screen compared to the SP 001, and it'll be the same for the OLED.

Great video, it looks like a gorgeous system. I guess I was hoping for a bit more as far as features, but I can see this being the "XL" system of the Switch line, similar to the 3DS XL. I think I will stick with my Switch Lite and wait for a more substantial upgrade.

The Apple method of designing a product then selling it to you in increments. Why start off with an OLED screen when you can sell it in the next version for more? It's not like a previous handheld console had an OLED screen or anything...

I got the oled. As an owner of the original launch model the improvements to the screen, the battery life, and the kick stand were enough for me to justify buying. I use the switch quite a bit for jackbox party games at get togethers and that old kickstand was a constant problem. I'll either sell the old model or soft mod it.

It has its place - but Nintendo is gouging us on the price. It needs to be at the original Switch pricing of $299- with the original Switch discounted down to $249. But God forbid Nintendo gives its loyal fanbase a discount.

I think it was thought for newcomers like me. What held me from buying a regular switch before the oled was anounced were the rumors of a "revision". When we saw the news of the oled we were HYPED, a no brainer. My wife and I got one oled each and could not be happier.

I never had a Nintendo switch so my OLeD white switch is amazing and worth every penny.. And seeing reviews of the 2 I'd much rather have a OLED switch then a regular switch.

I see it as a great option for those who don't own a switch already or maybe a v1 switch then maybe a good upgrade. If you have a v2 switch already then I personally don't see it worth upgrading, especially if you have a limited edition console.

I traded my V2 in and a set of joycons that I wasn't using. Paid under a 100 for Dread and the oled. I play alot in handheld. It was a good deal to upgrade to the oled, or at least a refresh to last a few more years. I like it overall.

Had the original switch from/since 2018, just placed my order for the oled since I’ve been having issues with the old one. Can’t wait!

It's for people who don't have a switch yet or for people who want to replace their existing switch for whatever reason. If you have a standard switch and only play docked (like me) then there is zero reason to "upgrade", the oled model isn't for these people.

Since I almost exclusively play docked, this upgrade sounds like it is completely useless to me.

Elaborate and very thorough and solid review. You are very honest and get down to the point. I have been following your channel for the last few years. When I first saw the OLED Model being unveiled, I looked at the specs and majority of the statistics excluding Internal storage and battery is pretty much the same. I got the first gen switch model in December of 2017. I mostly dock my switch when I'm home for streaming and so forth, but handheld mode still looks good to me as well. I only use Handheld if I will be away from my room and so on. I just hope that there is another switch that is going to come out down the road from now with much enhanced guts and is the "All Digital Switch" going to come with better Internal storage? Only time will tell and Carlos will make a cameo. Stay awesome and keep doing what you do best.

Man it was nice seeing a high-production video on this channel for the first time in ages. You should review tech! And while you're at it, you may as well do it in the USA.

Well I’d say it’s for any new customers that are thinking of getting a Nintendo Switch. It’s a mid-generation console refresh much like past PlayStations and Xbox consoles, but without any major improvements. It’s very much like how the other editions of the PS3 and Xbox 360 worked, they weren’t more powerful, they just looked different. Much like what Rich says here, it’s supposed to be a quality of life upgrade, technically improving the handheld experience with an OLED screen. Besides that, it’s not really worth it for anyone who has a base system. It didn’t offer the spec bumps of the PS4 Pro or the Xbox One S and One X models, but if you had a base PS4 or Xbox One, you didn’t need one of those mid-generation upgrades. See what I mean? It’s for those who don’t already have a system, in order to increase sales for the generation.

I feel that OLED should've been like that for the Switch in the first place at 2017.

Switch Lite is for kids Switch V1 and V2 are for people who play mostly docked but sometimes handheld OLED Switch is for people who play mostly handheld but sometimes docked

One of the biggest upgrades for handheld mode with the OLED switch is playing outside, the base LED screen screen becomes much darker and harder to see outside while the OLED screen is just as vibrant as it should be!

Me coming from the day one switch to the OLED I definitely think it was well worth the jump not only do I get a better screen but I get better battery life and an extra 32 gigs of memory which is enough for one AAA game maybe two and like I said coming from the day one switch the OLED does run a bit smoother because it's using the v2 Tegra.

I have no clue. The original Switch screen is fine in my opinion. The kickstand is improved, but I've never used the handheld as a screen with the controllers removed. Either I use handheld or docked.

I also want to point out that premium smartphones use pentile pattern OLED displays and not RGB stripe. They just have such high pixel densities that we can’t tell. The Switch OLED actually had an advantage over even something like the iPhone 13 Pro Max because of this difference, even though the resolution is significantly lower.

After Sony and Microsoft released a more powerful version of their consoles, and we started getting rumors about a switch pro, I was so excited. God knows the switch needed a performance boost the most. So very disappointed with the Oled.

I'll say this. Even though the switch oled doesn't have any hardware improvements, the oled screen itself makes it look like a real hardware upgrade. The screen is that good. I also disagree with you on your point about the internal storage being useless. First of all, most physical nintendo games run off the cartridge purely. Some physical games have a bit of an install on top of the cartridge itself, but that depends on the game itself. Some games install very little on the hard drive, like mario kart, super smash, etc. Other games like nba 2k will install 10gb or so. For me, I have almost 20 games on my screen, and my hard drive is only half full. Because of this I don't even have a micro SD card in my switch. I just saw no point. On the other hand, if you're someone who will be purchasing a bunch of digital games, then definitely you will need to pick up a micro sd

I bin playing my OLED for the past few weeks and i absolutely love it! I had my switch sense 2017 launch day,and i needed an upgrade.

This was made for people that don't already own a Switch. This is a refresh model that will penetrate more market base.

I just bought the OLED and I am shocked we were content with the older model as consumers. The OLED is what the Switch should have launched as, the older model feels like a cheap prototype in comparison! I gave the older model to my GF as she likes to play on TV and I like to play handheld, so it was a good purchase for us.

350 is way to much for a underpowered console.

Totally your choice but I feel you should have the microphone to the side so we can see you sounds fantastic for sure but yeah just my opinion love the content and I have a switch lite don't feel the need to upgrade 👍😃

I was waiting for a Switch Pro, after buying a 3DS XL and then seeing the “New 3DS” come out with games I couldn’t play. Everyone told me not to wait Now this OLED is here. I haven’t bought a switch. I want to, and probably will buy this. I’m glad I waited. Might just wait for the next step in the Switch as well

Me personally I’ve owned almost every nintendo handheld console, as far as a tv setup only briefly a nintendo 64. So I’ve always seen nintendo as a handheld gaming. Handful of times I’ve played my switch on my 75inch tv. There’s something about playing games laying down on the couch after a long day that gets me. So i play handheld 90% of the time so for me this was a no brainer upgrade the screen is stunning, felt like going to those old iphones with the home button to the notch iphones all screen, it’s beautiful

This is a redundant gaming device. Nintendo has made pointless redesigns, like the Game Boy Pocket, which was a stopgap system with no actual improvements. The OLED model is just for people who want a better screen, Ethernet, and built in 64GB memory.

They should have just waited till the chip shortage got better and made an actual pro version.

Got mine on day one, got lucky when browsing Meijer on a late night trip, they had 3 left. My old switches screen is so messed up I only used it in docked mode so this is a perfect upgrade for me! If you already have a working switch, its probably not worth the upgrade though.

I upgraded from my v1 to OLED. My v1 switch and Samsung TV have been having compatibility issues when docked; google Samsung tv switch dock screen flickering. There are some workarounds, but they don’t always work, and lowers the TV quality significantly (can’t play 1080p). So due to that known issue, I was playing in handheld mode almost all the time. Since upgrading to the OLED, the flickering issues went away. Ironically, I find myself playing more docked compared to before, although handheld is still my primary mode of play. Worthy upgrade for me in unexpected ways.

Great review man. Been on my PSVita the whole time but its time for a next gen handheld jump, I have been with console and companions along side like the PS1/GB in elementary school, PS2/GBA in middle school, PS3/PSP, in high school, PS4/PSVITA in college and now with my PS5 guess the Switch will be the handheld companion along side my PS5 but thr thing is either the OLED or Lite

For me I had an Launch switch and it was showing the wear and tear after all these years and that extra internal storage is actually a very good upgrade in extremely niche situations. I play a lot of Warframe on the switch and the load times when going into the open world areas between sd card and internal storage can genuinely be 2-3 minutes of difference, but that's a very specific case where the increased speed is needed and of course right after they announce the OLED (seriously, it was like a week or two of difference) Digital Extremes announced cross save would be coming to Warframe in the near future so I'll just play on my PS5 eventually I guess... Yeah, I probably should've cancelled my preorder, but I'm not disappointed with my purchase so I guess it all works out

I’m curious if image retention will become an issue with the OLED.

I have both. The OLED is a lot looser in the dock , and right now my first day with the OLED in dock ,it keeps going off and on . Let's see when it's fully charged.

The fact that the colors are better and blacks are blacker it almost makes the graphics better looking smoothing jaggies and blending colors MUCH better

YES as someone who plays handheld alot I've had it since launch day and I can say it IS worth the upgrade it is so beautiful seeing a bigger more beautiful screen plus is feels on the surface where the old one felt deep behind glass and the device feels better and more premium. The switch was my favorite console and this is a big upgrade for someone playing in handheld
