Genuinely curious how many other people have static shock issues. I’ve yet to hear about it outside of this channel. JYMV’s getting this Palpatine effect and just blasting his boards somehow lmao

I don't have this issue in my office, but I have it all the time at home in the winter when I turn up the heat. After breaking a PCB, I bought a humidifer and these small keychain static dischargers

5:43 With qmk you can actually set one of your keys to use something called "Magic Keycodes" which are keycodes that allows you to swap the position of certain keys. So with a click of a button you can swap the position of "WIN/CMD" and "ALT/OPTION". Your board may need to be using a relatively newer qmk firmware for the keycode to work. Which can easily be done if you just flash ur board with a newer compile qmk firmware.

You should give them Haimu Silent switches a try, they use a different kind of silencing method (instead of the usual squishy rubber/silicone) that may not be as silent as "complete silence" but dampens out the sound without feeling overly mushy. Haimu silent switches includes: _ Haimu Heartbeat (Linear) - Haimu Whisper (Tactile) - Haimu Seasalt Lemon Silent (Linear) - Haimu x Geon Silent Red (Linear) - Haimu x Geon Silent Yellow (Tactile) - Wuque Studio WS Silent Linear - Wuque Studio WS Silent Tactile Personally, I after trying out the WS Silent Linear/Tactile, I do feel like the silencing seemed to be working better on the Tactiles. Silent enough without the mush (coming from Boba U4)

After owning customs of all sizes, layouts, mounting styles, plate and switch combos, I spend almost 40hrs of my working hours with my RF2 and choose to have no other. I have started imagining my Topre boards to be like the Honda's / Toyota's that I'd use to commute to work and meet clients etc. while the customs are the Project Cars that I use only when I'm not working.

All fair, but have you tried Haimu Whisper Silents? They’re the only silent tactiles I’ve found that manages to avoid the mush. Those in a simple board (in my case a cheapo KBD67) have been completely bulletproof for the office setting.
@YourOwnStupidity
@YourOwnStupidity Год назад
Honestly I have been going through this exact experience in 2022 and 23 but I just never really thought about it like this until now. My HHKB type s was my first "enthusiast" class board and it just never fails me. I've brought my lulu and mode 80 into work before but the former literally died half way through the day and the latter was exceptionally conspicuous when being carried in a padded hard case. HHKB just gets chucked in my backpack and the custom keycaps have been enough for me to feel special. Also, seeing a lunatic at work running novelkey jades made me completely swear off of using a custom keyboard at work ever again. At most I may step into a Leopold as my next board but my interest in the hobby has reached its end... exactly where it started :)

That pretty much sums up my experience as well. I have a couple of hundred dollars spent on keyboards and it's . . .fun. It's important tor remember that custom keebs are hobby. When it's time to do work or when reliability matters, the hhkb comes out. My only regret is that the spring tension for the hhkb pro2 is intense compared to most linears.

Can't agree more, the quality varies so much in the custom world. PCBs have caused me so many issues in the last year due, going forward I will only be buying boards with universal PCBs which are easily accessible. I might even just head back to a regular apple keyboard for work.

I find that I'm in a similar boat, though, I've always held HHKB in a higher regard than JVMV (if I buy a 60 percent, it has to be HHKB format). Customs are nice, but often times are really embellished and irreplaceable. For example, HHKB is portable and always readily stocked if for some reason I break mines (never did btw). My Sangeo65 is heavier and not privy to movement (it has a weight for a reason) and the fact that I cannot get the board anymore from the first party means that I am afraid to move it in the first place or expose it to anything than my clean home desk. Its a recreational item, work doesn't get done on it. HHKB is a great tool, just not the best "Experience" possible.

My favourite silent switches are Cherry Silent stems with Gateron Box Ink housings. The housings are for smoothness and low leaf noise, cherry silent stems are my favourite because they consistently dampen the sound(no matter the angle of keypress) and never stick to the top housing. The feel is ok for me, not too mushy, but soft boards will definitely make the switches feel too mushy. Quite curious what you would think of this combo

To my knowledge, only Matias Reds and Gazzew U4 switches are good silent traditional mech switches - at least stock (Aliaz dampened sliders in JWICK tactile housings are fine, but require consumption of time)-; rest are either mushy or rough feeling. After a while of daily driving a bunch of different boards, HHKB has really become the "just works" keyboard for me, with the extra USB ports being useful for if I need expansion (say for a numpad or something).

I have tried couple keyboards and personally I have just stuck with Keychron K2 v2 with red switches. It's popular brand and popular model. And as hybrid user 75% is only layout I would use, since it has everything you need in compact layout and it's essentially same as laptop so you have consistency. Function keys are really common in some games, software etc. And it's just quite nice to have that F row as media keys, Function keys, or maybe for assigning macros or something. And frankly I just need my F5. Only reason for more compact layout is if you actually need extra space for mouse movement as pro fps gamer or something. And I have personally never encountered or heard about static issues, at very least not anything that has affected electronics.

5:43 interesting, i switch between Mac and Windows (i WFH and my work computer is a mac) but I keep my keyboard layout as is on both. I use the Mac/Unix layout with GUI/Cmd/Win to immediately next to Space, then Alt/Option then Ctrl. I say interesting because looking around at keyboards and some that are marketed for compatibility to both even have switches that let you swap between Space-Gui-Alt and Space-Alt-GUI...doesn't that mess with your muscle memory having to swap the keys like that?

After buying and using the Pok3r for a month, I immediately knew what my "endgame" keyboard would look like. It took me a while of experimenting with different parts to get there - but I eventually did. I have a 60% custom (like a custom custom, not an off the shelf "custom") keyboard with my own keymap, kailh box silents, and a wooden case to eliminate the risk of static shock. And I *had to* go with a custom build, because virtually no manufacturer offers a 60% layout with split right shift. I have a box of spare parts, like switches or pre-flashed PCBs in case of a catastrophic failure, and a fully built spare for double the safety. The keyboard is a work tool. First and foremost it needs to be an extension of yourself, so that you can input whatever you need without even thinking about it. I am kinda surprised by the direction this hobby took, it seems the new motto is "thock over function".

I say this, as a guy who has to build a fair amount of “custom keyboards” for gamers who have too much money. You say your key strokes are smooth when I would say that my old 80s one is very much close to a MX cherry brown feel. I get no end of shit for the appearance from other techs but they’re mostly rocking those Epomaker keyboards with the tiny display 😂🤷‍♂️ so they conceit to the fact that my keyboard just feels better.
