I've owned two Kawasaki KLR650's and currently own a Honda XR650L. In this video I reminisce about the 8 things I preferred on the KLR650 over the XR650L.

Very Well said, no other channel gives such fun positive feel that's always a great end to even the most hectic days! I appreciate your feedback and all of the honest content in you're videos. I was in the market for a Xr 650l but ended up jumping an '01 Klr instead. Cheaper, more common and less valued resale made It easier to Obtain!👍 Cheers and much love all the way from the most eastern coast of Canada 🇨🇦

I have a 2003 KLR that I bought new, and it has 66,000 miles now. I’ve done two cross country road rides, and it’s been over most of the old mountain passes in Colorado, and one round trip to Deadhorse. It’s been dead on reliable, but I’m a maintenance fanatic, and that’s definitely a factor to its longevity. I still love it after all of these years! I have never attempted to take it beyond it’s known limitations off road, as I own a few dedicated dirt bikes for that purpose(one being a classic Bultaco Frontera 370), but appreciate your comparisons here. Just bought an XR150L for a camping bike, and for doing town errand running(plus my wife can easily ride it). Fun little bike!

Loving your work ‘bru...! I’m an old-school Thumper man to the core, with a generation 1 KlR with Safari tank and a Schnitz 685 kit, as well as Wilbur’s suspension upgrade, and the bike is very backroad worthy. To the extent that I can’t decide between the KLR and my other bike , the DR 650 - also an absolute winner. So I just rotate them on trips... Always been curious about the Honda - so thanks for this and looking forward to the other XR videos.

Thanks for the support, I appreciate it. Oooh, I am so envious on your KLR. I'd love to get another Gen1 and do all the upgrades. I've never ridden the DR650, would love to feel it one day. Wish I could own one of each (a DRZ400 too)... I filmed a riding vid on the XR this morning, so will post that next week. This bike is so much fun in the dirt. Cheers

And further for the record ( for all you Thumper fanboys), both bikes are ridden almost exclusively on gravel, and consequently, riding in the low to mid range of performance I get good consumption : 25kpl on the KLR, and 23kpl on the DR. With the Wilber’s kit on the KLR it is incredibly backcountryworthy , and given that the generation 1 is much lighter than the later models , even more so. This is a great channel, and a I look forward to more.

@@theruffiankj4164 Thanks man, I appreciate the support. Wow, those are great mileage figures! I used to get 20-23kpl with my KLR on decent gravel roads. Hearing your experience makes me want a Gen1 again even more. I am sure the XR come closer if I ride at a constant speed, but accelerating quickly is just addictive. I think I need to do an economy run sometime. Cheers

To all of the above, I would add an unreliable CDI box on XR that can force this bike to stop in thousands of miles away from your home. I hope the KLR has no such problem.

Yeah, my XR did the same (after I shot that vid). Sold it. I trusted my beat up (by me) old 2007 KLR way more

xr's weakness to its reliability, it doesn't have kick starter yet the ignition just not working

The XR is a great bike. These are 10-year old BMW GS boots that I got at a steal.

Thanks, Garrett. These are BMW boots that I got for a very good deal 11 years ago. Each time the come apart I just get them fixed again.

After 2X XR600R's back in the 2000's in Namibia and 1x XR650L for 38K km in Natal I forgive you about talking kak. A dude came past me on a KLR on a long uphill on his KLR with his missus on the back. Go figure?? XR is clearly the better dirtbike. Got it down to sub 150kg with a full Clarke tank. KLR is a roadbike - XR is a dirtbike. Make it one or the other even more so.

Wow, how did you shed so much weight? I hear you, and actually like the XR very much. I am determined to get it tour ready and fall in love with it. I do sometimes wonder whether I'd just be better off with a KLR and a 2-stroke dirtbike instead, but I like the idea of having one that does both well (sort of)🤣

Bueno como usuario Honda les puedo decir que la Xr es mucho mejor moto. He manejado muchas 650 y les puedo decir que esta aguanta cualquier clase de maltratos dentro y fuera de carretera. No puedo decir lo mismo de la Suzuki DR 650. Suzuki XF 650. Yamaha xt 660 . BMW F 650 o la Kawasaki KLR 650.
