Summary of this video:
Wealthy Expat discusses why they prefer being a Mexican citizen over being an American citizen. They highlight the advantages of having a Mexican passport, such as easier visa-free travel to many countries and better perceptions of Mexicans abroad. He also criticizes sthe US government's actions, including starting wars and controlling its citizens. Wealthy Expat argues that Mexico's passport is improving while the US passport is getting worse.
He mentions that Mexico has good relationships with other countries and focuses on improving its own economy. Additionally, they mention that the US is more likely to impose a draft in the event of a war compared to Mexico. Wealthy Expat suggests obtaining a second citizenship as a backup plan and provides information on acquiring citizenships from other countries.
Wealthy Expat prefers Mexican citizenship over American and renounced his US citizenship, explaining the reasons behind his choice.
🛂 Mexican passport offers more visa-free travel privileges than the US passport, including six months in the UAE, and is generally easier to obtain.
🌐 Geopolitically, Wealthy Expat argues that the US is involved in wars, creating a negative perception globally, while Mexico has improving relationships and a positive trajectory.
💼 Conducting personal and financial activities, like opening a bank account or starting a business, is easier as a Mexican citizen compared to an American, who faces more scrutiny and regulations.
⚔️ In the event of a World War, Wealthy Expat suggests that the US is more likely to implement a draft, while Mexico is less inclined, providing another reason to prefer Mexican citizenship.

You don't need to give up your US passport to get the benefits of also having a Mexico passport. Perceptions and trends can reverse if that's a concern. I would be asking what the financial advantage is of not having a US passport. Taxation isn't really an issue for most people.
@jeremyleonbarlow
@jeremyleonbarlow 9 месяцев назад
Banking, and tax forms and reporting requirements. If you have multiple overseas bank accounts you will be spending more per year on cost reporting your accounts than most people pay in taxes. You will also have difficulty obtaining international accounts as an American. Most jurisdictions do not want US customers. Also extraterritorial regulations of the US on its citizens make you a target for blackmail potentially in ways that few other countries do. I mean if you as an American meet a young woman you believed to be twenty-one overseas, even in a jurisdiction where the age of consent is below 18 and that person turned out to be under 18 you have committed a felony in the US regardless and could be blackmailed if you had intimate relations with them, despite being set up. Just one example. I mean not to mention the fact that US citizenship has a higher potential to make you a bargaining chip ie kidnap and ransom victim in a political game between countries. It makes you a more valuable target for a terrorist act too. The disadvantages of being a US citizen are numerous.
@dvdwltn
@dvdwltn 9 месяцев назад
@@jeremyleonbarlow Hmm, maybe. But the disadvantages are unlikely scenarios. And the banking and taxation stuff really isn't that onerous. You could always travel on your Mexican passport. Anyway, even if you had a Mexican passport and renounced, my bet is that the bad guys will be able to figure out you're an American, former or otherwise, by just looking and talking to you. What do you do then? Tell them, Hey, I renounced! 😅
@matthewnirenberg
@matthewnirenberg 9 месяцев назад
@@dvdwltn Nothing unlikely about it. Plenty of US citizens have be born abroad in AU, NZ, CAN, UK, etc. gone to school there, got married at 19 and visited the USA and got arrested due to the USA's antiquated age of consent and drinking laws (21) which apply to US citizens anywhere in the world. The USA, AU, NZ, CAN & UK love to enforce their laws on their citizens no matter where they are in the world. Sure you might be doing something perfectly legal where you are but if it irks the sensibilities of the govt, they'll throw the full force of the law when you return. A perfect example was the Australian olympic swimmers who went to a shooting range in the USA - all perfectly legal in the USA. When both word and photos wound up in Australia, they were forced to return to Australia. When they returned they were charged with firearm offences under Australian law as they had fired semi-autos in the USA and held pump shotguns, all without holding the relevant Australian licences. The only way in this specific example could they have avoided the charges would be if they were US citizens as well, as only citizenship can force govts to respect each others laws as govts only see citizens as theirs and when there's a conflict the govts let it go. One other example, as US exchange student dated a classmate of theirs (both 18) in the UK. Their sex tape was leaked, when the US student returned to the US, the student was arrested for violating the US laws on sex trafficking which makes it illegal for ANY US citizen to have sex with ANYONE under the age of 21, even if the person is of legal age (18) in the other country. Whilst not common, it does happen and is becoming more common as govts feel they need to demonstrate their might to keep citizens "in line". As for banking, most countries reject US citizens and even former US citizens as they just don't want the risk or headache of specifying "Former US citizen". Plenty of people have found this out the hard way. Even if you're transparent, the problem is banks outside the US just don't want US citizens.
@dvdwltn
@dvdwltn 9 месяцев назад
@@matthewnirenberg Do you have citations for any these alleged scenarios? None seem like a reason to renounce US citizenship. Frankly, if I'm kidnapped or held by a foreign government unjustly, I'm pretty sure I want the US government involved.
@matthewnirenberg
@matthewnirenberg 9 месяцев назад
@@dvdwltn Nothing alleged about them. Citations... Ain't APA formatting anything for you but here goes: The Olympic swimmers was international news, their persecutions was Australian national news. Heard of Google? If so, try using it. As for the exchange student, was UK news. One of my oldest friends was one of the students classmates. Sorry but not doxing anyone just to please you. If you're intent on more details, use Google. As for banking, there's plenty of videos that detail US citizens being denied banking as most places don't want to deal with US reporting bullshit. Only one bank in Australia will accept US citizens. In Europe, most banks reject US citizens, even if they live in Europe legally. Also many banks in Europe won't even accept anyone born in the USA, even if they've renounced. Don't believe this, try opening bank accounts around the world and see how many rejections you get as a US citizen. No one is telling you to give up US citizenship, we're only making you aware of the problems it's caused. The US, Canada and Australia haven't done much in recent years to help their citizens who are abroad

Do your tax savings for living in Mexico match this ? It is age dependent in many cases. I am Canadian. I am 58. I am looking at approximately $2000 a month in just government pensions in 7 years and decent healthcare until then. My current job pays 200k a year. I would not be able to earn that in Mexico. thing is, you still have to pay taxes to the country the holdings in your portfolio reside IE Canadian ETF's = Canadian dividend tax rate or withholding tax
@jeremyleonbarlow
@jeremyleonbarlow 9 месяцев назад
Irish UCITS ETFs get you the lowest withholding rates in most major jurisdictions, and they get you other advantages as well, with no Irish withholding tax unless you are resident in Ireland -in other words you will pay a 15% withholding rate on that AT&T stock to the US, but not a dime to Ireland on distributions from the fund. If it is the case that you are resident in Ireland, but able to take advantage of the non-domnregime then Luxembourg domiciled UCITS ETFs are your best bet, but the Irish UCITS ETFs cut off potential estate tax issues in the US in ways Luxembourg accounts do not. The number of things you need to think about are numerous, but Ireland has some big tax treaty advantages. You need to offshore your investment accounts to the right jurisdictions and doing it in the right way may involve structuring and a holding company, depending on how much money is invested. It may not, but changing where you invest from is how you get the best rates. Both the Irish and Luxembourg tax treaties typically allow funds traded on a stock exchange to benefit from the tax treaties, which many limitations of benefits within treaties preclude otherwise.

Or is it that you have Mexican parent(s)? That kinda happened out of nowhere, that’s why I ask 🙈 is it that easy to get even if you haven’t lived there?

Hi Dani, I am a Mexican American same situation but short answer is you CAN and you are entitled to Mexican citizenship if one or both parents were born in Mexico or are Mexican nationals. All you have to do is go to your nearest consulate with forms of ID and one of your parents. 1st and maybe even 2nd generation Mexican Americans are entitled to Mexican citizenship through ancestry.

Oh, now it begins to make sense a bit... I live in the Netherlands myself (hate it though). And I'm banking in other countries at the moment because the interests are shamefully low in the Netherlands compared to other European countries. But with all banking accounts you try to open abroad, there's always that checkbox that asks you if you're an US citizen. I already found it strange for European banks... I was looking last year to obtain Colombian citizenship for investing in property. But it seemed quite "difficult" and bureaucratic there. Maybe Mexico will be a interesting alternative.

As you drive in the USA you will be stopped for any small excuse the cops have to fuk with you... the searches, the dogs, the lay on the ground, the guns... the world finally can see what visiting immigrants live.
