Why The Mitsubishi Plane HAS Such a POOR Safety Record

You were spot on in regards to the FAA not requiring pilot training on the MU-2 causing a lot of accidents, here's a few other interesting things: 1. They had a similar wing area to a Cessna 182 as it was optimized for cruise. This led to enormous flaps being required to make the take-off/landing performance acceptible. This left no space for conventional ailerons, leading to the use of spoilers. 2. The small, high aspect ratio wing did not respond well to icing conditions. Stalling the aircraft with a contaminated wing was essentially a death sentance if not corrected immediately as the wing tip tanks resulted in a very large rotational inertia should it develope into a spin. I do not believe it is possible to recover from a spin in this aircraft. 3. Keep them in their flight envelope and they fly awesome. Maybe other than a PA-42 they're the quickest aircraft int their class, just a shame they're not forgiving to poor pilotage

The reason it has a poor safety record is because of the tiny wing same size as a 182 but you need airflow, so in the case of engine failure ME pilots are trained to raise flaps, but if you do that in a MU-2 with a engine out it stalls and ya die. So instead the FAA gave it a type rating which it didn't have prior to about the 90s I think because it was under 12,500 lbs MTOW, the type rating limit for the FAA so yeah its the only plane below 12.5 with a type rating, additionally its cruise speed was nuts.

Ha ha Mitsubishi has been a massive player (they used to be one of the three biggest) in Japan since the industrial revolution. They started with shipping and literally begun investing in everything! You know the great Japanese zero fighters from WWII right? They were made by Mitsubishi! The Americans tried to brake these massive organisations but they're somehow still doing ok.
