The problem I have with the Rangeman may be unique to me. Some people even say it's my fault. Stay tuned because I'm gonna see what Casio says!
The steel pointer pen I use is the Zebra F-701, which costs a bit more than a typical pen but it's money well spent in my opinion. It won't break and you can buy replacement ink cartridges. Just don't lose it!

So, using that logic, the best option is the Casio Shock GA2100, it is the lightest, thinnest, and smallest of all, you will have no problem hiding it in your shirt, it won't hit anywhere, it won't pull you the hairs on your arm, and if that were not enough he also has Carbon Core Guard, plus, it's extremely cheap, the only downside is that it's so small, it may not fit your wrist. I have it, and it is wonderful, it is as if it had no gravity, you cannot feel it, it does not weigh and it has all the hardness of G Shock. Excellent video, thanks for sharing it

I paid $457 for my GWG 1000 with the sapphire glass. Highly recommend it for testing lol. Mine is war tested but not oil field tested, but I love mine. I’ve had mine since 2015 and still not a scratch in the glass to this day and still got all original parts and battery. I’ve done nothing but wear it.

@@kms08711 probably lol. The dust in Iraq did ruin 3 laptops for me so that is a thing to consider. That dust gets into everything and practically impossible to remove. We did survive an IED hit on our hummer and so did the GWG1000. So far I can only give it 10 stars on survive rate. Maybe it takes a Texan to break it 😂

Thank you for the video, so the conclusion is that both are tough watches, but the lug design is better on the mudman. Actually I prefer the hard plastic bezel on the mudman, easier to clean, no dirt is accumulating under the bezel. And yes, I can see scratches on the your rangeman glass. I think at this price point sapphire is mandatory, especially on a mud resistant watch. The little sand particles in the mud are harder than mineral glass. That's why I opted for the GWG 1000-1A3ER mudmaster. It is the first generation, and it was on sale for about 400 usd. I think it is a big watch, similar to the rangeman, but very confortabile to wear, and the sapphire glass is in perfect condition. No Bluetooth, no charging, and very good legibility. The only thing that I don't like, is the big metal band keeper. I want to find a replacement for that. But right now I'm thinking about the citizen promaster combination watch that you mentioned recently. 😁😁😁

And I personally don’t want a watch out have to plug-in or I would have an Apple Watch and I never plan on going down that road. Unless they come up with one that you don’t need to charge and the sunlight can charge it as good as the 9500 maybe in a few years that willhappen

Regarding the comment on the video „negative display on Mudman is a total crap as it’s completely illegible”. I listen to all of those complaints about negative display and…. maybe with me is something wrong, but I use the GW-9500 with negative display every day. I use it in different conditions: inside, outside, in sunny days, in cloudy days, in dark rooms, in bright rooms, etc. The situation in which I have problems with reading the digits are when there is totally dark in rooms and totally dark outside, and when I need to check the time I use illumination or auto-light. I have problems with my eyesight and still can see everything what I want to see on the watch. No problem. When I check the time I need just a glimpse on the display. No problem. Yes, I know that positive displays are more legible to human eyes and if you want to have the most legible display, you should buy the positive one. Humans’s eyes prefer to read black text on the white background than white text on black background. The last thing. If you don’t like or do not prefer the negative displays on Mudman, stop hating them on the Internet. It’s your personal preference. Stop lying that they are totally illegible because is not true. I have it and I use it in different conditions and I know that’s a nonsense. I’m not the fanboy of the G-Shock or any other brand. I personally use different watches too, mainly Orient Ray II, a mechanical watch (automate), with hands ( no display), with luma on hands and numbers in order to see the time even during dark night or in dark room, not using any illumination. I use my 9500 for activities indoor, outdoor, in the gym, etc. and I’m satisfied with that. I bought my son a Rangeman 9400 with positive display. Great watch too. My son loves it and is fascinated with it. I love both of these watches. I know that they lack of saphire crystal with AR layer ( I suppose that it could help to get rid of the problems with light reflections) and I’m of the opinion that they should have saphire crystal in this price. I love your videos because you describe different watches trying them in extremal conditions. It shows they pros and cons and how much durable they are. Great job. Regards.

Ok. Good point. I won't rant against the negative display mudman until I try it myself. My anger against the negative display comes from the King, the G-Shock GXW-56BB, which I own and have a terrible time reading.

@@JimKinkade ok, I understand. I Sawa the CasioOak watches in positive (all wbite - whie dial, whie Janda, white numbers) and I van say that they were really illegible. Fortunatelly Casio offers do many options to choose that everyone willa find simething interesting. I just got the green Mudman GW-9500-3 in addition to my trusty olive green Rangeman GW-9400-3, both negative displays. To my surprise, in spite of the duplex display the Mudman is a notch easier to read in almost all angles and light conditions. I plan on only keeping one of the two, still have to decide...

What the real issue is: the Alti and the Baro sensors are useless without a 2nd GPS device or a physical topo map to continuously calibrate any GShock or Protrek. That then brings up the question; why have either of these models that are $500-1000? Nothing advanced about it.
@JimKinkade

@@RovePaths yea, it may not be accurate but it will warn you about pressure drops and while hiking you can get an idea about your elevation changes.

@@JimKinkade if it's inaccurate then there is no point. Pressure drop readings will be out too. I'm not a fan of smartwatches but at least the ones with altimeter/barometers have correct readings as they also use GPS to get elevation. Personally I went with a Momentum M50 Mk II (sapphire crystal, 500m rating, 8-10 year battery and built like a tank. It's $100 CDN less than a Mudman and looks far better.

It's different purpose for those two watches....Mudman is the animal, absolute toughness, and Rangeman is a sport watch....hiking, walking, light fitness, not so much abusing. Also, the amount of gaskets and protection around the buttons inside the Mudman is insane. I love that Mudman even though I don't have it....(Casio could make a bit thicker numbers at the screen). Sooner or later, that band at the Rangeman will just dissapear, break. Hard plastic wings are there to protect the only weak point of the watch....maybe it could be solved with some adapters.....Yes, they are different but both of them are G shock family which should mean Tough....it doesn't seems to me like that Rangeman is tough enough. Scratches at the crystal is not a big deal, it's easy to polish it out. If a molten metal hits the watch, that's very good, that's a lottery....it's much better than if it hit your skin. A single digit IQ is enough to understand why Mudman should be tougher. It looks like my 12-13 years old DW290 is tougher than that Rangeman.....and DW290 is not a G shock at all (which is a shame because it had to be). This isn't a pointless video, it's very good video, thank you Jim very much because you just showing to the world the difference about the using in the real world, after heavy abuse. At the end of the day, Casio G shock should be designed to do it with no questions asked. ''I'm the only guy in the world with this problem'' 😀😀😀 No Jim, you're not, but the other people don't want to make a half an hour video after they lost their nerves already....by the way, I'm thinking the same every other day.
