I had to return mine for a few reasons, the biggest and most annoying reason is I wasn't able to sign-in to my corporate email and Microsoft Teams, as we use a stronger type of protection on our accounts which OnePlus simply does not support. I never had this issue on my previous Samsung phone or my iPhone. Also, ProXDR is very buggy, although photos look amazing with it enabled, ProXDR made them look really blurry. Ultimately, my iPhone takes HDR shots without any of these issues. Lastly HDR video playback is broken on all third party apps, it simply did not work on anything but the OnePlus Photos app and the camera. There's also minor stuff like the outer display cropping navigation bars on many third party apps at the bottom with the rounded corners and the text scaling being weird and inconsistent, even the Fold 4 has solved these issues. So effectively my experience was ruined by a lot of bugs and broken implementation of features 🤷♂
@@Dunestorm333 I’m a bit confused by your original analysis. If you cant sign into your corporate Microsoft teams which is a third party application how does your companies security measure factor into signing in? Also how does that problem relate to your device? I dont see how the HDR playback on other apps is related to One Plus…when you upload any video or photo to a 3rd party app like instagram and facebook the app always compresses and renders the file on their end. You may be right i dont own the phone but every critique you’ve made besides the cropping and text scaling seems to be related to the other parties. Have you tried signing into your Microsoft teams corporate account on your fold 4 since discovering the issue with your OnePlus? I would imagine whatever security measures implemented may impact that phone as well.
@@cgmiddle Well I've used the Galaxy Fold and have standards and an eye for detail, it's a shame a lot of people haven't either. It's not my loss anyway so I just don't care.
Thanks for going over the software. I'm looking at this phone for work/productivity and some of the features you were showing would be extremely useful and were great to see they had!
Love the One Plus open hardware, but Dex is a genuine killer application on the fold 5. It takes the ability of the device to another level. Use a fold 5 with Xreal air glasses and you'll see what i mean. Game changer. I agree however, that Samsung need to up.their hardware game on the Fold 6.
Great review SKB, i"m the proud owner of the Open!! I have a small issue, at 3.54 minutes you show us your splitscreen, On top off the rights-screen you've grouped your favorite Group-apps. Can you tell me how i get those locked on the screen? I hope you can give me some advice!! Thanks Harold (Netherlands)
I'm not ready to jump on the foldable phone bandwagon yet but, this looks like the best one I've seen yet. Strictly speaking, I purchased my OnePlus 11 back in February and I absolutely love it. I really see myself using this phone for a few years. Perhaps if they hadn't done such an amazing job on the 11 I'd be more open to the open.🤣
@@cgmiddle I have little doubt that one plus did an amazing job. I've owned many of their phones including the 8t, 11 and now the 12. In fact, I even own the pad. However, foldables just don't suit my needs. Once more, foldable devices only accounted for 6% of sales in the marketplace last year. Currently, it looks like that is going to drop to under 5% this year. Frankly, I feel foldable devices will go the way of the dinosaur, nehru jackets and grunge flannel. Thank you for the reply.

The multi tasking is so brilliant. It woud be cool if they introduced a two finger tap to quickly swap which app is now the expanded app instead of just switching between the 1 expanded and 2 split. Great video man!! Cant wait to see the long term reviews
I am a fold 5 user. I just wish Fold 5 has same front display and i am done. Fold 5 is the only foldable phone sold here in Singapore locally. Instead of OnePlus, same phone is calle oppo n3 sold here in Singapore. 2K plus cost is really not justifiable?
Great review bruh. I really am loving the options that the OPO offers. I have a green, 512 being delivered tomorrow. I can't wait to start using it. I also have a ZF4 and 5. Only been privy to Samsung's UI. Now I'm going to work with the OPO. I have a feeling that the OPO2 will have some type of flagship killer software in 2024. Oh and did you know that there is an oppo pen that can be used on both the inner and outer screen? WHAT! I do think OnePlus and Samsung will have a software battle coming down the pike soon. Only time will tell, but these two in this space really look good for competition, at least software wise. Oh and the form factor of the OPO is niiiiice! I'm sorry, but between these two, the Pixel fold is just gonna have to...fold it up! Which one to use the most...hmmm...
I did the vs specs on the one plus fold against my Samsung Z fold 2 I brought three years ago and the only big difference I found were the camera specs. In other words, three years later I'm still enjoying my Z fold 2 and my Z fold 2 is still enjoying me.
I found it to be smarter to just carry the S9 Ultra Tablet and use the S23 Ultra for the camera and other practical handheld things. You can use 2 Apps at the same time on the S23 Ultra, usually without issue. Them selling this for $2000 when you can just get the S9 Ultra Tablet that is way better, it just says people who have lots of extra money that want to fill that gap between the S9 Tablet Ultra and the S23 Ultra gets filled. I think I've opened at least 7-9 Apps on the S9 Ultra Tablet and it was still working fine. Anymore than 7-9 then you can't really see the windows anymore.
having had 3 oneplus phones i can tell you when u spend 1500 on a phone and the same bugs that it had since the start are still not fixed after a year u give up on oneplus
There is always something around the corner, but as far as here in the US, the Pixel and Galaxy Folds just released within the last few months, so this might hold its place for a little while.
My only complaint with this phone is, I’m hearing and seeing reviews by real users saying the crease got worse in under a month of use and some are having other bugs and issues. I understand it’s a new device bugs are there but some that shouldn’t be there are present
Would be good if had wireless charging and an IP rating. I remember this RU-vidr bandwagon when the Pixel Fold came out. Now they have moved on to this next Fold5 killer lol.
My friend pre-ordered this phone and with the 200$ trade-in discount OnePlus are offering, it knocks the price down to 1500$!. He's finally upgrading from his ancient iPhone 7 to this. It would be like stepping into the future for him lol.
While the Open doesn't directly come with a Stylus, there is the Oppo stylus (OnePlus merged with Oppo) which works perfectly with the Open, and even sometimes better than Samsung's pen. There are videos on RU-vid showing the Oppo stylus being used with the OnePlus Open.
🙏Sorry about my english 🇨🇵 You don't talk about the tilting potential of the hinge which is... in my opinion... the reason why (yet we see you handling it delicately like a grenade pin.. when it goes beyond 90°..😂 ) ...I will wait . . before I decided to but a foldable... rightly .. when speak decision ... it's sad that a company not already able to avoid a mechanism to decide at our place, from the angle of hearing on these hinges, screens... phones at 1800 euros 😔😔😔 One + Oppo ruined this third iteration Chears 😁
That huge camera island is a real eye sore. For $100 more, I would rather get the Z Fold 5 with way better software support (OneUI with GoodLock modules).
What I miss in the OnePlus Open reviews in general are two things: 1) The phone is also provided with an IR-blaster (Infra Red) 2) a Stylus Pen can be used on this phone! (Oppo Pen 2)
FYI. That whole "any phone. Any condition" bit is a load of bs from OnePlus. It's "any phone" as long as that phone is on their list. Which there are a vast majority of phones that aren't
@@Walrondrm I have a broken OnePlus one (drunk brother who was borrowing it destroyed it) still in the original box; one of the first waves of buyers.... Would have been a cool trade in
I ordered it. Then i canceled it:( bc it doesn't have Wireless charging:( I knew it when i ordered it. But overall i caught myself being disappointed when i was using it without it in my mind! Flagship devices MUST have the flagship features!
Uh, the open canvas multi-tasking is new. If we're talking USA only foldables, the crease being barely visible is new along with the great aspect ratio of the outer screen. Its not perfect, but it has a few new things that other foldables don't.
1699 minus a thousand at best, 750 in the mid and 200 at worst for a phone that no one is trying to buy if they were looking for a midranger to begin with? Yeah...keep telling yourself that.
Great review bro. I'm completely leaving Samsung. Samsung has lost its vision and leadership and is following Apple too much. If I wanted a product that looks like Apple, I would just purchase Apple. It's bad enough that the phones don't come with a fast charging adapter. They don't listen to their customers at all because they're too busy following Apple. I traded in my Samsung S23 Ultra for the OnePlus Open, and it has made having a foldable fun again. And I'm trading my flip for the new Motorola flip with a bigger outer screen. Since Samsung want bring Dex to their flip. Bye-bye 👋 Samsung.
I turned my notifications to all, ive been subsribed since forever ago but i totally forgot about your channel? since youtube deprioritized the sub feed. Glad to see youre Soldier going strong aoldier 🫡
This video was recommended on my home page after scrolling down a couple of times, hope the algorithm brings ya back up, you should be up there with MKBHD !
Next year 2024 should be the break through for more affordability hopefully. Imagine a Oneplus OpenT or Nord or Ace variants. Think of a Pixel Fold A even.
SKB is the OG of youtube tech reviews. I admired him since his beginning days. I hope he does not take a break in between, So many other tech youtubers are standing on the shoulders of people like SKB, who paved the path to youtube glory through tech reviews.
Ever since RU-vid de prioritized the subscribed feed, I totally forgot about SKB, I think the algorithm did him dirty, still is after I've watched more of his recent videos!!? He should be recommended more 🫡
I was thinking of switching from fold 5 to this But then i realized in multitask you cannot open 2 chromes , only one can be opened , same app cant be opened twice in multitask , which means its prerty much useless
Blödsinn es funktioniert einwandfrei und dieselbe App zweimal zu öffnen ist wohl der größere Blödsinn da der Sinn hinter Multitasking ein ganz anderer ist
Such a great review. I've ordered one but curious if you have tested out the Honor Magic V2 ? I know the V2 is thinner but have heard the software is not as good as the Oneplus Open?
Its a great device. Sizewise its only an iPhone 14 Pro Max with 2 Displays and a folding mechanism in it! Thats sick! I think the camera is almost as good as the flagship Samsung and iPhone which is totally fine. I would buy it for 1k but definetely not for this price. I always go for used phones so I am looking forward to it.
Jealousy looking for Oneplus Open and Honor Magic V2 on my Galaxy Z Fold4. I'm a lifetime Samsung Fan and now Samsung become Apple 2.0 i wait for Fold6 and then i leave Samsung oder i stay. The others are technically and software-based significantly further in the same price range
I nearly sold my Zfold 4 to order it, as the inner screen reliability has failed a few times on the Sammy but the lack of 8k video, Spen and DEX swayed it for me. If only the fold has a premium Cam.
Great review. I still think these things are too expensive. I'm going to hold off for now, but it's exciting to see a company put pressure on the other heavy hitters to up their game.
I can tell you why it's "so good". Bc despite having a "foldable tablet" in your pocket, you can't even comfortably take notes or use some of the most basic functions of a tablet bc the device doesn't even have Stylus Support. Oh wait...
