Very informative video, Eric! I was an early adopter of Sonos being a music lover but it quickly became my favorite way to watch movies. I put together a surround system that rivals the other surround sound systems I’ve tried and owned.
Another great post man! I’m seriously considering going all-in with the Sonos ecosystem. An Arc, 2 Era 100’s and and a sub mini. It’s a heck of an investment, but I can’t seem to find such flawless reviews of any other sound system anywhere else.
I’ve been using Sonos Arc / Sonos Sub & Sonos Beam / Sonos Sub for several years now for my two TVs. It’s an amazing investment and I see no need to replace those speakers within the foreseeable future. It’ll spoil you because now I miss Sonos quality when I use my Mac computer :)
I went with Echo Studio for Spatial sound. Should have gone with Era 300 but I couldn’t get myself to pay the asking price when Echo Studio is half the price. I might get one when it goes on sale.
When using a pair of era 100s as computer speakers did you only need a line in adapter to one of them? Or did you need two adapters, one for each era 100?
So I can pair 1 or 2 Era 100's with my Sonos Beam for better surround sound from my home theater system? I worry about the audio sync if the Era's are connected via WiFi.
I started with a Sonos Beam gen2 too and added 2x Era 100 for rears first and then the sub mini. I have to say the 2 Era 100 definitely did more for a fuller sound! But i would highly recommend adding the sub mini sometime in the future! You can tell that the sub enables the other speakers to perform better in mids and hights.
you want to compare with homepod??-take an era 300 or a beam or a move, or even a sonos 5-all are better though the era 300 is the single spatial sound speaker to do it way way better...if you want a fair contest go with Bose, not apple or google who are not really audio specialists despite some good products
Thanks so much for the Mac speaker mention. If you opt to connect to the Mac using Bluetooth instead of line-in, will it still let you adjust the audio delay? Built-in speakers on the current iMac and Studio Display are perfectly acceptable. I’m going to use the Sonos Era 100s to quality check my video productions. Great video! Sub and Like added!
Thank you! The audio delay is specifically for the audio input setting and there’s a similar one for Sonos sound bars with TVs. Bluetooth is separate from what I can tell.
Please do a video on the Era 100, if the cost difference is worth it. You can get a twin pack of oneSL for $370 versus $500 for the ERA 100s. Is it worth it using them only as surround sound speakers with a Bean GEN 2 Center channel and mini sub.
Let’s just say I just replaced my Play:1s for the era 100s yesterday and after setting them up as surrounds..I can definitely hear a difference and much more improved sound in just about every way. The play:1s sounded great so I didn’t think these would sound that much better. And you hear an bigger difference when streaming music 🤩
Super useful video, thank you! Question, is it possible to pair let's say 6 speakers for 5 different rooms, using 2 of them for a stereo set up in one room, and play the same music for all speakers at the same time? In other words, can I choose between mono and stereo (2 speakers) set up for each room, while playing the same music everywhere?
Hi Can you pls suggest is Sonos ear 100 is better or Bose revolve plus 2 Sonos is a last year product and Bose is last 3 year product if I go for Sonos can I get any trouble in using this speaker pls suggest which I one go for ??
Excellent video, thanks ! sonos with Mac is rarely a subject on RU-vid. With my MacBook and a bluetooth stereo connection, is anyone experiencing a speaker louder than the other ? except for that issue, bluetooth is a very good connection with a mac (delay is imperceptible).
I just got a free Sonos One; brand new. It sounds nice playing podcasts and music. I have a three bedroom house with a living room/greatroom, but would also like to put a Sonos speaker in the garage and one on the back patio by the pool. I would also like to be able to hear whatever podcast is playing even in the bathrooms and the garage. What fun. What money. LOL! 🤣
Just ordered a pair of Era 100s to test. I plan to upgrade my old sony soundbar with this setup combined with the Beam gen2. I compared the ARC and the Beam in the store and the salesperson plainly told me that the ARC does not justify the price increase compared to the Beam.
Great information...I'm a couple months from breaking ground on a custom home and was wondering if I should run ethernet to connect my Sonos? Any test between wireless and wired connection?
Great Review Eric. I have one question for you regarding the line in adapter. Since you only connect one of the speakers to a Mac, does the other one works?, do you still keep stereo? Or do you need a splitter to be able to connect both speakers? I didn't understand why you couldn't or didn't like to use them as Mac Speakers. Thanks for your answers
Great question. The line in on one speaker is considered a Sonos input that is then transmitted by Sonos to both speakers that are a stereo pair, and or any other Sonos speaker zones/rooms you want the sound to go. As I think I mentioned in the video, I wouldn't use this for video editing or gaming but music while working is perfect for it. It's probably fine for watching video but you might have some audio delay at times.
Been wondering about the Era 100’s myself. Right now I’ve just got the Beam and two Play:1 speakers, which has worked great for home theater stuff. If they integrated Siri … I’d switch in a heartbeat. For now though, HomePod Minis work just fine (though I have thought about upgrading to HP2 in my office).
After listening to the Era 100 i threw a pair of Homepods 2 straight to da garbage can, yep not even worth the hassle to sell em, Just direct to garbage
LOL I just picked up a pair of era 100s yesterday at best buy (mt Father’s Day present 😅) and I freaking love them so far! Replaced my Play:1s and can definitely hear a difference in just about every way. Well worth the investment!
Excellent video Eric! Thank you for your perspective on the Era 100s! Was there a specific reasons why you choice to highlight the 100s instead of the 300s? Thinking about adding either the 100s or the 300s as surrounds to my beam gen 2! 🤔
After looking at these myself as rears for my Arc I think the era 100’s will be plenty for rears on a beam. If you’re room isn’t large enough to warrant an Arc over a beam then save your cash and get the 100’s. 😊
Tried a demo set of Era 100 at an upscale dept store in SG and the sound is really unimpressive. Bass is almost non-existent like their Play 1s. So its totally not applicable in a TV/movie setup. For music, any genre tats bass dependent like dance, hip hop or electronic, even pop will sound lackluster. Plus at S$429 its way too overpriced to its competitors. I'm going to stick to my HK Omni 10 tat sound way better and looks great too. Additionally, the reviews from other RU-vidrs of the sound latency and inconsistent performance is a big no-no.
Don't buy sonos. I am struggling from day one, and I had a hope to adjust everything right, but no luck. Sound control only from the app, which is very inconvenient. Also, even with modern eero mesh wifi, eras 100 sometimes have a glitchy sound connected to Beam gen 2. I paid $720+600 CAD or so, and I believe that for this money, it should work better. I am thinking of returning it back to Costco as Sonos tech support has no clue how to fix it... diagnostics #...over and over
