I know Allen Henry doesn't care, but he just got a new subscriber. Nowhere near your level of photography, but I own the A9iii and shoot sports and feel like I could definitely learn a thing or two from you!

Def a subscriber! I’m a photographer for the San Antonio Missions. Are you staff with the Padres organization or just so happen to be shooting them? I use the Sony a7iii and when shooting at night, it’s such a pain bc the iso capabilities lack and create so much noise. How’s the ISO capabilities with this camera? I would assume amazing haha

Firstly. I LOVE THE VIDEO STYLE WITH THE south African voice over . Secondly. This camera has made me a better photographer from day 1. Thirdly. People dissing it online is just because they dont have it. Please make a video about the culling in camera workflow. Keep up the great work.

This thing is definitely a cheat code. That pre capture mode is very similar to pro capure on my Olympus E-M1 II. It's a very useful tool. It spoils you haha

That it does for sure. Hard to go back to just shooting a real time 😁

Lol I wish. Maybe one day, haha. I'm a rodeo photographer and I use and love the older Sony a7r4, I will one day have the a9iii.

I highly advise not renting one because there will be no going back. I would love to shoot some rodeo with this beast, it will make 8 seconds feel like a lifetime...

@@allanhenry lol right on hahaha. Yea, It's going to be awhile before I even think about getting one. But one day...... I will lol. I want to be able not to worry about my sync speed. I have 3 Einsteins strobes and 4 white lightening. 2 1600 and 2 3200 strobes. So the a9iii would be amazing, lol. Anyhow, thank you for the videos. Love your work.

Thx Allen…great stuff. I love shooting field sports with my A93 but I can’t give up my reliance on my A1 due to the larger sensor which gives me more options in post to crop. When I am out with both cameras I typically am using the A1. How do you overcome the smaller sensor? PS…if the A1 shot 40-60 fps and had pre capture I’d have two A1 and A93 wouldn’t be needed 😊

Hi and great question :) appreciate you taking the time to ask. So I have a couple of options / thoughts for you. The first is to try cropping less in post and more in camera. This takes a lot of getting use to and means taking a lot more time to get clean backgrounds and working the light. For me, I crop maybe 1% of my photos in post and 99% of my time when I shoot. I'm not sure if the A1 has the same ability as the a9iii. I know with the a9ii I could not crop-in via the sensor and shoot at the same time. With the a9iii the processor is super fast so I can jump between cropped / full even when the camera is writing / buffering. For me, I use this setup a lot for indoor baseball with the 70-200 + 1x4 TC at 4.0.This is fast enough and gives me a ton of spread for focal length for infield where I shoot full frame and can go tight via custom button. When zoomed in this puts me around 400mm which is fine for most outfield action and I can then crop-in in post if needed. Hope this all makes sense. For me size does not matter. 99% of my photos all get compressed down to 4.5meg and I have found 25mg to be just the right size. If memory serves the 1Dx was about 16mg and then the a9ii is pretty similar to the a9iii. I Can't even remember when I have needed files larger than 5meg of late. Of note, here are my custom function button settings so this all makes sense. REAR1 > (1) Pre-Capture REAR1 > (2) APS-C S35/Full Frame REAR1 > (3) Playback REAR1 > (4) Display my Menu REAR1 > (5) Focus Hold REAR2 > (1) Focus Standard REAR2 > (2) Playback REAR2 > (3) Select REC Folder REAR2 > (4) Continuous Speed Boost Toggle REAR2 > (5) Rec. Media Setting TOP (1) Focus Area TOP (2) Switch Focus Area FRONT(1) Create New Folder LENS (1) Continuous Speed Boost Hold DIAL / WHEEL (1) AV/TV (m) DIAL / WHEEL (2) AV(m)/TV DIAL / WHEEL (3) Focus Area DIAL / WHEEL (4) ISO

@@allanhenrythx Allen for taking the time to detail your thoughts and a93 usage. I shot a softball game tonight with a 300 2.8 and 1.4 tc so the 400/4 worked well up the 1st base foul line as I could cover home plate, second and third as well as center and right. I was able to fill the A93 frame so had plenty of megapixels! I had my 70-200 on the A1 for 1st base and near dugout. Look forward to more videos from you but I am sure your plate is full. Thanks again!

i would like to know as some one who also owns the a9iii ...how or what setting are you using to see the bust shots in play back cuz mine just show like regular one by one ...no big bunch of shots in a group .....also how does the new cf express cards that are 4.0 vs the old 2.0 ( i use two 1tb cf cards as of now ) but have seen 3 companies come out with the new 4.0 but didnt know how much better it would make the buffer on the a9iii when shooting 60 or 120 shots a second

Hi Mike -- Thanks for watching and asking, great question, I can see how this can be confusing. If you are using the play button to display photos, then you are seeing them one-by-one. To see all the photos as in my videos, you need to click the [AEL/Image Index] button next and it will zoom out to the gallery view. There are all sorts of ways to navigate in and out between photos and folders. There is also a setting that displays the size of the index and how many images can be seen at one time. MENU → (Playback) → [Playback Option] → [Image Index] → desired setting > 9 Images/30 Images

PS: I don't believe v2 vs. v4 cf-a will make any practical difference. Space is much more important than speed and you are already at 1tb so I would not advise upgrading. For context, I used SD cards for many months before I finally got the Atlas OWC CF-A. There is not much real world difference in how the camera captures / shoots between SD and CF express. The processor in the a9iii is amazing. The camera shoots and buffers at 120 fps like a champ no matter the card. Space is much more important than speed but thousands and thousands of frames are hard to short through and manage and this is where SD vs. CF express becomes very clear... There is a huge difference on the reading side. Viewing the photos in index mode when you want to sort through in index mode in camera it's much much slower with SD. When you need to review photos off a card or import with photomechic or Lightroom, SD is painfully slow compared to cf-express. --- Allan :)

@@allanhenry i just didnt know if sony would make a firmware update so the new cameras can take full use the read/write speed of the new CF 4.0 cards since its double the speed of the CF 2.0 cards .....figure it might help with the a9iii cuz i can only shoot about 240 photos before it locks up on the 120 bust mode ....but for 30 or 60 the 2.0 does great with the buffer ....but so far i love my camera the last 3 months shooting highschool and college sports its great ( not the best at low light but also the highschools dont have best lights on the field also vs pro places )
