The Scribble Erase feature had almost taken away my desire for a quick erase feature like the two-finger trick on the Supernote. But after the 3.5.4 update this last week, it seems they changed its behavior just the slightest amount and now it often doesn't recognize that I've tried to erase and thinks I just want to draw a bunch of scribbles. Thanks for this video!
@jeffreymoss

With a slight tweak, I do think scribble erase can be superior to the two-finger erase, but it isn't there yet for me. I'll have to check out the latest update.

🙋‍♂Hi Jeffrey! I am married to the MS Office Eco System, and it is why I use a Boox device. I gave my granddaughter my Supernote Nomad to use for college mainly due to the sidebar working when it felt like, and I was uncomfortable downloading apps via APK and certain apps are not available was a nuisance to me. Now my granddaughter is hinting I get her a Boox Go 10.3 for Xmas. So it seems I will be selling my Nomad. I have to say that it is great, we can all have a device that will work for each of our personal needs. Thanks for your views on the Supernote.👍 Kudos from NYC.🗽

Thank you for this review! I just ordered a Supernote and plan to use it for my daily planning. Right now I use a paper planner. Do you think that the Supernote will be a good substitute for my paper planner and notes? Do you have any tips or ideas about how I might best take advantage of Supernote's features? I know I'm excited to create a home page that can help me easily jump to notes that will be used frequently.
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss Месяц назад
You can use it for daily planning, but that's something I don't personally do. However there is an integrated calendar app, and there are also third-party planner documents. For example, the RU-vid channel My Deep Guide sells a planner that is supposed to be good, however I have not used it myself. In terms of learning the device, I'd just advise to play around, but if you want a detailed review of what the device can do, check out my Visual Tour video for the Nomad: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RB6PuAHMPZA.html. It's a long video, but there are plenty of chapters and you can just skip around to what you are interested in.

How did you transition those piles of paper when you got your original Boox? It feels like having two places to search for notes would be unproductive. Similarly when you went from Boox to your Supernote how did you migrate the Boox content?
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 2 месяца назад
When I got the Boox, I transferred all my to-dos over into one notebook and immediately got rid of all my stickies. I also culled my paper pile down, but didn't eliminate it at first. Then, over time, I pared that down until there wasn't much left. I didn't bother to transcribe my old notes. But fortunately, over time, most of the notes weren't needed anymore so I could just move on. The transition to the Supernote was similar in that I transcribed my current list of to-dos over. But in that case, I just held onto the Boox for a few months until I felt I could move on. I only transcribed a few notes over, letting the others just go away. And then, as noted, gave my Boox to a co-worker.

As much as I would love to have a Supernote, as they are currently not making anymore A5x, and it appears the A5x2 will come out after the school semester begins, I would likely have to go with the Boox Go 10.3. It seems Supernote is superior for note taking and note organization, but for the purpose of reading and marking up PDF’s would the Boox be the better choice?
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 2 месяца назад
Yeah, a lot of people are frustrated at the delay in the A5X2. I don't do a lot of PDF marking myself, but the Boox does seem to be a better option for that activity, in general. But both are good. And I guess that's my ultimate conclusion. Both devices are great (well, I'm assuming the A5X2 will be great, but I think what we see with the Nomad justifies that anticipation) and if you need a device now, the Go 10.3 is a solid choice. Really, you can't go wrong.
@yorgohoebeke
@yorgohoebeke 2 месяца назад
What are your thoughts on the go 10.3 vs the supernote a6x2 nomad? :) (I really enjoyed the video btw - very instructive and I like hearing your nuanced opinion and use cases. I have the Tab Ultra C (the first version they released), but I don't find myself using it as often as I would like because it is quite heavy/bulky - that's why I'm considering the supernote a6x2 )
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 2 месяца назад
Both are great devices, but I'm pretty biased toward 10" devices for notetaking, myself. I just need that real estate. I tend to use smaller devices more for reading and less for notetaking. If I was advising someone, I'd ask if they currently take notes on smaller pads of paper. If so, then the Nomad might be a great choice for a notetaking-focused device. But if not, I'd recommend going to something with a 10" screen which is still a bit smaller than a traditional pad of paper but much closer than 8" devices.

@@jeffreymoss Thanks a lot for sharing your insight! From what you're saying I will be happy with both the Boox Go and the Supernote, but if I prefer portability and smaller size I should go for the supernote? I actually do want a device with which I can both read and take notes. Now that the supernote supports 3rd party apps (apk files), I was thinking of using it with the readwise reader app and to take notes. I rarely take notes on A4 pads and usually use smaller notebooks. The Boox Go seems amazing, but I think I do like the supernote software more: - how easy it is to access notebooks - the side gestures and quick access to the lasso and eraser functions - the headings feature when note taking (this one is really amazing for extensive note taking)

Just as a hack, if you sync Google Drive to your work PC through Google Drive desktop and access it via Windows Explorer, you can view *.note files withe the Supernote Desktop App installed, even if you aren't signed into their cloud. Just a good feature I found.

I can really relate to this. I use my boox na3c during meetings - taking notes sometimes furiously - I wish there was a way to do things quicker - the way you can do things in vi or emacs. I also want search to be scoped - that would be great. I also wish i can link between pages/notes quickly.

Thanks for the great videos . I am where you were with lots of notebooks, sticky notes and loose sheets . I often loose track of where things are so a considering e ink . I wanted the Supernote A5x but it’s no longer available. I read a lot of large format pdf and write pages of a4 notes so think the nomad is too small. Been awaiting the A5x2 but goodness knows when that will arrive. I need ti beagle to take lots of notes and possibly annotate pdf . I’d hoped to get the boox note air b&w but it seems impossible to get that device . I can’t really justify the jump in price to the colour model so am considering the go 10.3

The Go 10.3 is a great option. The Supernote A5X2 should be worth the wait, but the delay is certainly frustrating a lot of people. I don't blame people for going for the Go 10.3 in the absence of a release date for the latest Supernote. The good news in all of this, is that there are a lot of great devices floating out there, so while there's the risk of not getting the best device for you, you'll still end up with something solid anyway.

Do you have any thoughts or concerns about the Ratta user agreement?
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 2 месяца назад
That's not my area of expertise, but what I can say is that I do not use a Supernote account for my main device that I use for work. I mainly keep my device offline by turning wifi off, and only turn that on to backup my files onto Google Drive (in the note format, so I can't actually see my files there but they can be used to load onto another Supernote device should the need occur) and for firmware updates. I'm not sure that addressed your question but I hope that helps.

I'm considering buying the Nomad A6x2. I'm unclear on what is a notebook versus a note in a notebook. I would expect a notebook to have pages and on those pages, notes can be made. Also are individual notes in a notebook datestamped and therefore accessible from the calendar or is this not possible?
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 2 месяца назад
The basic file is a .note file which is also called a notebook. It functions just as you describe. The calendar is a bit different. I'm not as familiar with using that, but it appears that notes only appear there on the date the notebook is created. Then you see a link to that notebook, and it take you to the last page opened in that notebook. If you go with the default notebook name, that is date and time stamped, but again, just marking the original point of creation. The calendar itself can be linked to Google or Outlook.

Definitely the random sluggishness of the SN. Interestingly, I found the issue to be rather the number of items in a particular folder than the size of the items/folder. Quite odd? Also, much agreed Jeff regarding cloud storage. If needed, best to use OneDrive or Google.

How does the to do list on boox work? I have the Note Air 3 but havent read about that function yet (I have the latest firmware installed). Sounds like it would be interesting; I Keep a separate note to do list that I do after meetings (I facilitate meetings a lot too). But now I have to jump between documents to make the to do list, not very efficient
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 2 месяца назад
The to-do list app I talked about was for the Supernote. In terms of Boox, when I used it previously, I'd use 'XX' as a marker on my to-dos and then use a handwriting recognition search to gather them. That still works, but it's a slow process. If I were using Boox at work still, I'd probably just go ahead with tags and create a to-do tag. To make that happen, just write a word, circle it with the lasso tool, and click on the tag icon on the top menu bar. Then a window will pop up where you can name the tag. From then on, you should be able to use that tag without having to name it again as it will show as an option when you create your next tag. I did a video on notetaking search features where Boox examples were prominent, so you may want to check that out. Here's a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MKIwCfcr29M.html

Thank you for your reply. I understand and it is not my area of expertise either. But I read part of it and there is mention of the laws of the People’s Republic of China. So I started to wonder if someone using a supernote wrote something offensive to the Chinese government would that create an uncomfortable situation. Or if someone working for the U.S. government would be restricted from using a supernote device.? I’ve never seen terms like these before.

Supernote Partner App on my laptop, on the log in screen there is a hyperlink to the Supernote USER AGREEMENT. Rules of usage, 1. You should abide by the relevant laws of the People’s Republic of China during the service of Ratta, such as the Cyber Security Law of the People’s Republic of China- it continues to get interesting.
@jeffreymoss
@jeffreymoss 2 месяца назад
@@WilliamBrauner-ie4yq That's a great call out! I appreciate you sharing this. I particularly like the cult language. This actually validates my feelings on the potential risk of using any cloud services, but a risk that is greater with Chinese-based companies. Specifically, I mean that the implication here is that the Chinese government can look at the contents of Ratta's server in order to validate that the laws of the country are being adhered to. Thus, any notes you upload to the cloud can be potentially mined by the Chinese government (or by Ratta on the government's behalf). That's the major concern anyone using these devices should think through. The actual recourse of the User Agreement is termination of services. So, under the agreement, the worst thing that can happen is that you'd lose cloud services -- something that I have never heard happen (there's a good chance this would come up in Reddit if it did). So, as always, we come to the same place, which is to consider the balance of convenience and security. At work, I go full on for security, and at home I take the convenience (via different devices).
