Without question the best folding 20" bike. Ive got one now im working on getting it under 24lbs weight. Then with its superior performance over a Brompton. You have the PERFECT folder.

Tern BYB captured my attention recently as being well thought of product. One complain though: Tern should also include hub gear variant for city commuting, possibly with belt drive for low maintenance. I like where Tern is going with their products, I'd like to test ride HSD and GSD one day.

You have the Tern duo. Or Si8 if you want belt drive and hub gears..

I've owned a Tern BYB P8 for a few years now and absolutely love it. Forget the strange cult of insanely overpriced yet flimsy Brompton, Terns destroy them !

I had tried both this and a Brompton. The 20-inch (ETRTO 406) wheels are surprisingly much more stable compared to the Brompton's 16-inch (ETRTO 349) wheels but sadly, it's still not small enough when folded to be placed in between my legs while travelling on a train.

@@BikeShopGirl Reason I asked is I am picking a bike up the eighth turned from another island so I am going to purchase a stop over the owner will meet me at the airport and I’m going to pack it to take to another island where I have a house I’m selling as opposed to paying for a rental vehicle. Therefore, no experience in shipping folding bikes.

Oooh. Please do a full review. I'm surprised that there aren't more reviews on youtube. I love the idea of being able to "bring your bike" anywhere and while I already have a Tern Verge D9 and Link D8 they don't fit into the airporter slim without disassembly, and the suitcase it does fit in is enormous and may be subject to airline fees. Is there a reason you chose the Tern over a Brompton or Bike Friday for example? Cheers!

Hey Brandon, I carried Tern as a bike shop to start with. I've ridden Bromptons but they aren't as stiff feeling as I would like (and gosh they are expensive). Bike Friday - also expensive, heavy and I don't think they get as small with a 20" wheel.

I bought a Tern Verge but the tires are slightly larger than 20" and they only make two sizes and I can't buy a broader tire. I am 80 and worried that I'll fall or something. Also, what about a Brompton, which is actually smaller but not especially lighter, or a Bike Friday, which can be fitted to your specs, seeing as it's made per person? Hope you get my message. The Verge is a great bike, but very sporty. If you are looking for a small yet very stable feeling bike - check out the Tern Link or Node series. I purchased the BYB specifically for traveling.

What cheaper options do you mean? To me the benefit is the ease of use over the cost of the bag.

Hi there! Thanks for this video, it's been really nice to see someone talk about the BYB. I'm in the position to buy either this or a Brompton, and so far I'm really leaning towards the BYB. My main worry now is that it seems that Tern is kind of putting the BYB line on the back burner - I haven't really heard much about this line and I'm worried that we won't see more accessories that are made for this type of bike (panniers, more racks, etc). Do you know if this is the case? Thanks!

Heya, Tern just released a new model without the rack/fenders. I can’t say there will be more accessories dedicated to the BYB this season. Is there something you are hoping for?

I'm considering this bike as a travel bike. I'm only concern about v-brakes. But on photos i found something that look like a mount for disc brakes on rear wheel. Am I right it's there or it is something completely different. On the other hand is it possible to change the fork from, for example verge series? Yeah everything is about disc brakes. I have bad experience with v-brakes and I'm avoiding them. 😅

Hi Dam, no disc brakes on this bike and I personally wouldn't switch out the fork as it will remove the whole point of it being easy to pack in the AirPorter Slim. I haven't had any problems without disc brakes on this bike, and it is my only bike without them. I'm not going to be climbing steep mountains and wanting the brake modulation for long descents, and I don't plan on riding it in the mud.
