I live in Minnesota so I've been through some really cold days. The winter storm of 2021 caused the temp to drop down to -40 degrees. I felt bad for the people in Texas coz I heard how bad they had it.
We really do have ptsd from this and we’re tensing now even though it won’t ever be that bad again probably.. people were burning Amazon boxes and dying from charcoal and exhaust fumes to stay warm. Your car was frozen or you’d slide backwards on the road so you couldn’t go anywhere or help anyone. There were no stores open except mom/pop or bodegas thankfully we could hike to.
Well maybe because the whole state froze in a subarctic ice storm for 4 days? Texarkana hit minus 20F. Last time this cyclical cold hit was 130 years ago, and most likely won't happen for another 130 years.
Lol during the polar vortex in the Midwest. Wind chills in Chicago got down to -55 degrees. With actual air temps going down to -30 we didn’t have the problems you Texans had which concerns me about the infrastructure down there
We just aren't used to this type of weather. The last time it came close to the winter of 2021 was the 2000 ice storm. In Texarkana we are lucky we aren't on the ercot grid. Hoping that they are more proactive in the years to come and have a plan. We are supposed to get snow this coming winter
The saying is that there is not been snow at least not this bad in almost over a decade and I can completely agree because I’m 22 years old and I’ve been through some crazy stuff some crazy weather like tornadoes in different countries but living in Texas for 15 years not once did I think that it was going to get so cold that I’d like I cannot even get water from my sink because it was completely frozen
A lot of people aren’t teached to taking precaution for freezing temps. Though luckily when it did happen we still had power because our area is actually ready for these weathers just in case it ever happened, we had a gas generator on standby and many fire logs. With food stacked months in advanced and the basics. do this every winter because you never know.
@@MaddoxMelton sounds silly lol considering you guys dont get snow down there or very cold temperatures ? or am i mistaken sorry if i'm wrong, but when i think of texas, i think of tumbleweeds, sand and dry heat
@@TL....yes, academy, Target, etc have north face and more. It’s just a great expense (before 2021) because it usually only lasts a few weeks with super cold (25) and only below 40/50 like 2 months, so depends on if you have an outdoor job/live in north Texas/travel that you’d require a super heavy coat. But most people have at least one I’d say.
That's something we're used to in Ohio, and so our infrastructure is able to handle it, but for Texas, it must have been harsh, and their infrastructure was not built for that. After summer 2023, I've been partly teasing and partly serious that deep down, well, all of the south, but Texas must want the north's winter after all. February 2021 would show that the south does not get a break at all.
This is a suggestion. Have someone go thru all the problems that people in Texas had, go over the solutions to all those problems and print out that book and give it to everybody so they will have something to go by when this happens again. `
As someone who lives in a place that has snow roughly 5 months a year this is so wierd to watch. A whole state shut down because of 1-3 inches of snow.
If you're in the business of using words to communicate then learn words. At the begining you said it was an insignificant storm. I think you meant significant which is a word used to say an ample ammount. Also the storm was not unPRESIDENTED, it was unprecedented.
I've lived in Texas my whole life. Born and raised and i don't think I have EVER had a single good thing to say about it. The older I get and the more that goes on here I don't see that changing. This state is a absolute joke. If anyone ever asks you to show them why right wing politics does not work and is based on delusions from a by gone era just show them Texas.
Your left wing politics got 100's killed at the Texas-Mexico border, millions killed in Ukraine and 1000's again this week in Israel. You are swimming in blood that helped cause.
The thing is, that's the entire country, not just Texas. Just take Florida, for example. We can go all day about Florida, alone. And then there's Trump. Trump takes up the next century of talk.
