This video is the first in a 9 part series dedicated to the unsung county of Lincolnshire and its remarkable role in the world. This Episode focuses on the county's origins from the early Celtic settlers, through Roman influence, the Normans and its role as a key hub for the country. It also focuses on one of the most significant moments in History...The signing of the Magna Carta.

I'm an American but, my father's ancestors came to the United States from a small village in Lincolnshire. I would love to visit this very special area of England!

I would love to see an episode 0, dealing with Lincolnshire's prehistory from the Neolithic, through the Bronze Age, to the start of the Iron Age. Thanks so much for making this series! Local history told with love and interest is so good to see!

Thankyou so much for the great feedback and suggestion! It would absolutely be on my list to do the prehistory. More researching is on the way! Glad you are enjoying it so far!

Though I speak a very poor English - not to mention my understanding - it's a pleasure to look and listen to Lincoln's history: I've been told of this series by a friend of mine I met in Lincoln in 2018 and I have to say his advice has been really good! Thanks for your work, will spend my morning going on with further episodes :)

@@KarlBird I spent few days crossing Linconshire during a bycicle trip from London to Edimburgh, in 2009: I can guarantee to people that don't know that part of UK that no, Lincolnshire is definetly NOT completly flat! ;) At that time, and then in 2018, I came back to Italy with the precise idea that your country is really worth a longer stay: I hope that viewing your very nice series will be a "preview guide" for me, as well as for many more people, nex holiday. Thanks!

Thankyou so much for the lovely comments, really appreciated and glad you enjoy them. I managed to do a bit of filming briefly in Wainfleet for Batemans in the next episode. I am glad you love the local history equally. My Dad collected many coins and loved showing me the collections, some old and some new...really fascinating!

Hi Karl What a great set of videos, will watch the series as we love Lincs be it skeg, scummy, Cleethorpes, Boston, Gainsborough or Grantham. Very professionally done, we want to do all the pilgrim places, presume the lady at Gainsborough features later or is that too recent. You should have 50,000 subs and a similar view. Episode 4 next 👍

Hi Karl, only just had the link to your film sent to me - it's great and I've already passed the link to family and friends - one of these has asked if the film will be available on dvd, mainly to be seen in the future by grand-children. On my visit to Gainsborough Old Hall I bought a copy of 'Tudor Rose' by Sue Allen, based on the actual diary of Rose Lock who lived at the Hall at the time of the Pilgrim Fathers!!

Hello Walter, thank you for the lovely message and really glad to hear you enjoyed the series. I have been asked to put it on DVD so hopefully that could happen further down the line. The book sounds very interesting and like I mentioned I was just amazed by all the history that took place at the Old Hall. I am sure its a fascinating read. Hoping that many children and grand children do indeed get a lot from all the things that I managed to cover. Looking forward to finding out more!

@@KarlBird Hi Karl, Thanks for the prompt reply and the positive news about the chance of a dvd, I'd certainly want one as well. Another, rather tenuous link to the music world is that, in Gunby Hall there's a note written on a wall, in Tennyson's hand, of a few words from one of his works that now features in Van Morrison's 'Haunts of Ancient Peace' in the album 'Common One' Lincs influence everywhere. Power to your elbow and Best Wishes, Walter Barnes
