My first teacher of the basic Arabic letters was a Lebanese Christion from the mountain area of Aqurah. We were college students together. She was a very close friend. I had not converted yet but I had an urge to learn Arabic...it was my path to Quran.

I feel like if you started a series about Arabic food, it would be awesome. Like, Mark goes to restaurants, Mark learns how to make kibbeh from his Auntie, etc. FOOD SHOWS!! Yalla!!

I heard that in Arabic all words coming from the same three-letter root share some similarities of meaning or of hardness and sofness even if you change the order of the letters. Like Ta Fa La. (Root of children), La Ta Fa ( Root of kindness)

Dude, it has to do with semitic roots. You must see in the words (for example nafas and nafs) which letters have in common. The Semitic root will be n-f-s, for malakh and melek (m-l-k)

My fiancé is Iraqi. I know learning Arabic is difficult and I don’t know how similar Iraqi Arabic is to Lebanese Arabic. I would like to at least learn a little bit of Arabic so that I can understand him somewhat.

I wish someone would post videos of people singing in Arabic to American hits karaoke style . that would make it much easier for me to listen very often to Arabic and thus learn it. It would help also to have the Arabic words written in Roman script as my ear for Arabic is still pretty weak. I wish one of those language learning companies would make videos like this, people would listen and learn a lot it’s less boring than listening to people saying hello how are you my name is etc. etc. over and over again

Maybe the word for “same”, while written the same as “self” in Arabic نفس, is spelled nefs (with an “e”) in English, not nafs?

Does nafs also mean lust?
@dayan47
@dayan47 2 года назад
Not exactly..more definate is shawah, raghbah, shawq, shaghaf. Each one is slightly different. There is no language more descriptive than Arabic. In the colloquial Arabs say " Ana nifsy"when they want to express a desire such as a cup of coffee or an ice cream or a vacation or nap..something not as strong as lust.

If the soul and spirit is the breath of god, and breath, air, is intangible, and melds together, perhaps as it is in the in Hinduism, correct me if I'm wrong, that once we are all purified through repeated reincarnation, we all return as one with Brahma? Or as a friend once said it was. On a much simpler term, if we were made of the same thing, breathe the same thing, are we not all the same, and so, should we all not get along in this commonality, instead of looking to be separated by what is different between us all?

I think it's not subconscious because Arabs were better at translating than Romans were. They picked a word to translate "spiritus" than captured both its senses. In philosophy, "soul" and "self" are mostly interchangeable, which also explains the "same' meaning

In the Holy Qur’an God uses the following phrase: قال الله تعالى: ( فإذا سويته و *نفخت فيه من روحي* فقعوا له ساجدين - سورة ص: 72) It is clear here that Roo7hee (My Spirit) implies God created Spirit / Soul, these are Creations (makhluq) of God while God Himself has no Body or Soul, He is Omni-Creator (Khaleq) Alone. Roo7hee here is similar to these expression: Baeyt ALLAH (Ka’abah, Mecca) Khaleel ALLAH (Prophet Abraham a.s) Rou7h ALLAH (Angel Gabriel) Naaqaht ALLAH (Prophet Selah’s She-Camel) Saif ALLAH (Khalid Ben Wahid r.a.) Asad ALLAH (Prophet’s Uncle Hamza r.a.) Hence they all are Honorary Title just as Prophet Adam was Breath into Him a Ru7h (Spirit or Soul) So Does Prophet Jesus was breath into him a Ru7h ومريم ابنت عمران التي أحصنت فرجها فنفخنا فيه من روحنا ) [ التحريم : 12 ] )
