Why these Arizona high schools are the best in U.S. - and why they're not 

This is mostly incorrect. I went to one of these schools and it’s not like this. Most of the population is Asian, and they don’t exclude people from their program, instead they make it so challenging that whoever doesn’t want to fail has to leave or work as hard as they can, making school their first and only priority, and that leaves only the best of the best. Additionally, the schools are largely underfunded. Everything is incredibly cramped, there are eight grades in one small building, no playground, no fields and all students have lunch at different times because the lunch rooms are about three classrooms big. They’re trying to get more people into their curriculum and not accounting for the people they already have.

Basis is really good but can improve in the non academic areas

Public high schools retain all the low hanging fruit while these public charter schools pick the cream of the crop. Both systems use government funded money, but the difference is in the level of freedom to choose what the schools will teach. The unenlightened government drones and educational pixies on one side favor a system that conditions its students to surrender their minds and feelings to the State, while the innovators toil hard to produce its students into the most accomplishing adult thinkers.

I go to basis and it’s horrible. At just 11, they make kids take pre comprehensive and comprehensive exams. They start in one week and we spend our entire winter break studying. Pre comps are information from august to December. It’s horrible. Also, school is first priority. Why can’t I come to your house? I go to a basis school and they make me study all the time. Another reason you shouldn’t make your kid go here is because well.. my neck already hurts and I’m not even an adult. Save back pain and brain cells. IN SUMMARY, This is basically a corrupt public charter school that makes kids study all the time so they get good rep

Wait they take the students most qualified for their programs? The blasphemy!

Basis has many flaws that are easily fixable. They also shoot for a more traditionalist yet advanced form of learning which causes lot's of stress. Not to mention piles of signatures.
