You made it Queen. Emotional bangers like Nami asking for help, and the walk to Arlong Park are what define the series. This is what OP is all about.

And the asskicking delivered afterwards convinces most who weren't along for the tearjerker xD. I didn't bother warning with spoilers, because I'm assuming everyone knows that an asskicking always follows this xD. It's essentially the only outcome to a story that's tauted as the best piece of fiction in existence right now.

Episode 37 is the big one to me. If by the end of 37 you don't love this show, then you probably won't love it. The episode usually starts with you starting to dislike Luffy, but by the end you'd follow him into hell with a smile on your face. "Luffy, help me" always has me in tears, no matter how many times I see it. And the walk to Arlong Park always gets me hyped. The live action made some small changes that really took away from the emotional impact of all this, so don't stress about it hitting you harder. The only reason to avoid it as someone who is watching the anime is that there's one plot thread in the live action that does not show up in the anime for a few hundred episodes, so the live action does spoil that one secret.

Yeah, they really fucked up this part. The villagers knowing but pretending, nami faking she's fine because she doesn't want all of them to die, the villagers telling her it's ok, they were just hanging on because she still had hope... ALL of that removed from the live action... If you don't have time to do that.... remove all the fucking marine bullshit.

Never feel bad about crying from the moment Nami finally asks for help. I saw it when it first aired, and to this day I tear up, even watching people react to it for the first time. Nami's VA deserved an Oscar or two for that scene.

One thing I love about these episodes is that Luffy was asleep while the crew was being told of Nami’s backstory. He genuinely has no idea what happened to Nami growing up. So when she asks him for help and he says “Of course I will” it’s not out of pity slightly. It’s because he saw his friend crying and he wanted to stop it

Please! You finally made it! The breakdown was the moment I was waiting for! It’s one of my favorite emotional moments. The part that really pulls it together for me though is Luffy gave Nami his hat. This is like my fifth watch through and I am crying right along with you like I always do when watching this part. My roommates made me watch One Piece with them. I thought it was a ridiculous children's cartoon that was too bizarre for my tastes. Gradually I started actually paying attention to it and liked moments every once in a while even though I resisted and tried to mock it. But when I watched the Arlong arc, I cried like a baby. It was tragic, and had such depth to it I couldn't ignore it or belittle it anymore. From this point on I was hooked.
