This is true I told an O-6 that I wasn't planning on staying in and he damn near chewed my head off because I told him I was getting out after 4 asking me how I was going to make it with no college and all this. 11 years after discharge making 100k plus still no college.

I got out as an E4. The CMC and I had a long talk and he told me getting out was the right thing for me to do. I was never going to make Chief, (I went to the brig and a Captains mast). It was a hostile environment and very condescending. My enlistment was rough.
@Scrapy-ih7ob
@Scrapy-ih7ob 2 года назад
That chief(CMC) might fed you line of crap, hope you made life after that choice, But his Sailor ,in first command, made mistake spoke his mind in what once a MALE dominant place, until the year 1995 when females where aloud to embark with Squadrons on Aircraft carriers, lets say i spoke my mind after being chosen for something, that at time the ship was in a conflict, simply put 3 days bread water, day of my CAPT Mass, orders to leave for A school ,. waited 3 years for them. all lost, LPO WAS Female trying make name for NAME for her self, but I survived MADE E6 . retired,. I only failed One NAVY exam my entire 20 years service, very last one, and think it was an error.

When I was geting out everyone gave me a very passive "he's going to fail" aura. They actually suspected I'd get out and somehow die lol. When you get out it is actually super easy. Just plan 2 months before you get out where you want to go and what solid job you want to try, even if it's something temporary like Walmart. I was hired for a 30k job week after I got out, then I received several calls from other jobs offering 45-70k a month or so later, and those ones had benefits too. Only reason I even worked was because I got bored while on Terminal Leave (had 68 days of Terminal leave). The military isn't the only place where you can get amazing medical and dental benefits. Only thing the military has over a c ivilian job is it's much easier to stay in shape lol. I'm married with a child on the way and I chose to get out of the military. Trust me civilian life is difficult sometimes but it is still FAR easier than the bullcrap I had to deal with while in the Marine Corp. Now I'm getting paid to go to school, getting my degree and relaxing for the next couple years. If college doesn't work my military training will still get me an amazing middle class salary job without much hassle. The guy in this video is spot on most people stay in the military because they're scared to take a chance and risk. People like that are easy to manipulate and control whether they admit it or not, because they're letting fear dictate their lives; which is ironic considering they all likely joined the military to conquer those fears. If you REALLLY like the military life stay in; but if you're just there for the benefits and money get out. Even if you have a family, a child, etc get out. The real world has SOOOO many things for veterans that sometimes it feels lke you're a civilian with a little guardian angel watching over you. As long as you don't end up in jail or on drugs you should easily survive in the military. That's not even mentioning the money you get from the V.A. from all the injuries you likely suffered. Even something as small as crapping your pants out of fear in boot camp will get you money, and yes I am dead serious because I've seen people get 10% for self defecating in boot camp (albeit they had to actually go to medical for it, whether they found something or not it counts as psychological). All in all get out and get messy. It's much easier than the military, especially if you leave with a half decent plan.

DD-214: put every award (medals, deployment ribbons) you earned on this document. I updated mine about 4 times while I was trying to retire from an isolated duty assignment overseas. Your DD-214 is extremely important. Spend time on getting it right, even if you are faced with extreme obstacles!

My Chief and most of the engineering command gave me hell on my last deployment. Ran me ragged through my last deployment, but I preserveered, and they all shook my hand when I left the ship. I guess it was a final farewell hazing.

Once my unit found out I was going to get out and pursue Grad School they were very bitter. They ordered me to take on ALL of the unwanted tasks and assignments, treated me differently than the rest, and tormented me with way more staff duty shifts to include BN, BDE, and even made me pull a Division level Staff Duty the day before New Year's Eve. It was horrible, but in the end I'm going to school and loving life. I really dislike most of the current "leadership" in the Army specifically...DD-214 Alumni
@darkpaw1522
@darkpaw1522 5 лет назад
Same. They gave my duty my last day in the Marine Corps so I had to spend half my time at the duty desk technically already EASed. Most of them had a "he's going to fail" aura around them, judging me and constantly doubting my plans. One Sgt even started acting like a doosh and chewing me out over every little thing,. He once chewed me out in formation for being 0 seconds late, I kid you not. Can't make this stuff up. In the end I'm in college on that GI Bill, debt free, and happily married. All of them are still bitter lol.

Man I wouldn’t get out unless I was forced too. Being homeless as a teenager to becoming a platoon sergeant was a big accomplishment. I was scared to live on the street again with no family to help me out. However my worst nightmare happen when I got injured during my deployment and got medical separated after multiple surgeries. I was forced out and now going to school hoping for a future job helping wounded Warriors. Life is better out finically if you have goals.

In most workplaces 80% attrition rate is considered terrible. Usually that high of an attrition rate is indicative of terrible management or bad work environment. I worked for an employer with a 90% attrition rate and it was an extremely toxic environment.

I've been in the Army National Guard for nearly 6 years (I'm getting out in August of this year) and have just completed my one year full time status and have once class left until I get my Associate's Degree. I too have experienced some resistance from others in my unit trying to convince me to extend or reenlist and try to tell me that I can't make it on the outside. I've been doing my best to try to shrug off what they're saying and there have been quite a few times that I second guessed whether or not I made the right choice and feeling scared of the unknown but your video here has given me hope that it is possible to find success after the military. Thanks for this!

Not only make sure your DD-214 is correct, but make sure you makes copies of your medical records. i have been out of the Navy for over 40 years and they can not find my medical records. I do get medical care from the V.A. but can not prove my medical condition while in the Navy. There is a possibility that i will get some disability from Agent Orange. I have had all kinds of rare illnesses ever since I got out.

This video was spot on about some people's attitudes about getting out. My advice to young people trying to join is try to accomplish something on your own first. Or at least try to get some type of life experience before you join. I got my bachelor's year's before I joined and I also joined hella late at age 30 😬. I'm not saying wait that late. I think joining in your 20s is ideal (ask my knees). However, I understand that many people might not be interested in going to school or paying for it themselves (I wouldn't if i could go back in time). But since I accomplished a lot on my own I know what I'm capable of. Their isn't a single Soldier that can tell me I'll fail if I leave or it will be hard. I've lived 98% of my life as a civilian. It's the military that is new to me- not civilian life. I came in to grab that GI BILL and I plan on getting out after my 3 year contract. Never ever let fear hold you back from doing ANYTHING. Most people who turn their nose up at you are full of fear and they don't believe in themselves so they project their fears on you. Screw that. Have a plan. It might not work out 100% like you planned the first go around but that's life. Just keep at it and you'll figure it out as you go. Get all that you need from the military and then get out whenever it suits you. If you can do the 20 that's a great choice too.

It’s the same for the army. It’s not meant for everyone to do 20 30 yrs bc the ppl that have stay for 4 and get out and go to school and get a degree. I was afraid of getting out, after serving for 8 years, because I wanted to be in the Navy since I can remember! I've been out for 2 years now and have a full time union job, married, good credit, and I'm going thru the VA to qualify for a house! I guess that all I really needed was an honorable discharge and DD 214, you know? So I'm glad I didn't have to stay 20 years to get it... Although I'm still striving for more! The Navy taught me great social skills that I can use. I was glad to be a part of the biggest organization in the world

Gratz dude. Been out for about half a year now. Been riding that Gi Bill and living off it for me and the wife. We're expecting a baby soon. It's not always easy but it's ironically still miles better than being in the Marine Corp. Being in taught me to strive for perfection and self improvement. Now I go to the gym more and I actually gone back to college and working crazy hard at it, even more than I did before I joined. When I got out I thought I was going to take it easy but instead I decided to push myself harder, just in a better and different direction. That DD-214 really opened my eyes. Best decision I ever made. Wife happy, I'm happy, and everything is going up; hell, we're even completely debt free now lol. Glad to see another brother got out and used his skills to make himself a even sharper civilian.

Look for the RE Codes on your DD214 at the bottom.Those numbers mean something also.I knew a guy who had an RE-4 meaning he was seperated from Army service on a Honorable Discharge but he was a fucked up guy.The Codes from 1-4,number 1 is great,the higher the number the more fucked up you are with the exception of RE-4R meaning you have reached over 20 years of service.Also when you see that there is a block for terms of inactive service required for how many years after your initial term of service which should equal the amount of time when you have served.if you see this and you have a # 1 meaning you have done well.Most human resources in most companies and major corporations are trained to look for these codes.God help those if a retired Master Chief or Command Sergeant Major looks at your DD214 and have higher codes.Some companies hire these guys and they know what to look for not just your awards earned in service too.

I wasn't going to be forced reenlistment, 2x deployments, three operational conflicts, Gunner's Mate 2nd Class, my guy's were absolutely intolerable the day I got word my orders went through, and I received my 90 day's leave and tpu for a week or two and gone(out honorable discharge good conduct). Cashed in a month and took the rest this was the very beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom those guy's were so made that I left because I was in change of so many thing's and they didn't have anyone qualified to fill that loss. FSA 2x hazmat 3x and I still made rank without actually working with the Gunner's Mate's I chose to teach myself everything. ONLY one mentor GMC Foster.

Dude I feel ya. When I left I was in charge of a ton of documents. Other people can do them but they were critical and if left unchecked for any longer than a week it went downhill fast. Even worst I right before an inspection, and apparently a surprise inspection. I came to visit them a month later and my SSgt wouldn't even talk to me. I tried to tell them to let me teach the other Marines but they wouldn't let me, and I tried for weeks.

The Corey Becraft show I recommend it, navy is not difficult you just have to tolerate a lot of bullshit, if you were in the marines I'm guessing you should do good. Also you'll get to sleep with many women and see many different places so you have plenty of perks. If you are a guy that likes to go out and party and drink then you should fit in just fine. I may have a positive experience maybe because I was staitioned in Japan on a small boy(small ship/ cruiser), I heard that life in an aircraft carrier is a lot more bullshit but less work so I'm glad I was not staitioned in one. Anyway, think wisely because if you have been out for a while then you might not be ready to put up with the Navy's ridiculous bullshit. Also, if you are married than definitely don't join unless you desperately need a job to take care of your family, the navy is perfect for horny young guys that want to screw the whole world.

Hello my fellow sailor . i was also aviation community AMS. Just wanted to say I've been watching Nava the Beet, haha ! But he really don't have a clue. Just because he is getting out it almost like he is trying to talk young people out of joining just because he's getting out. Id probably want out if I was a male Secretary in the marine corps too ! POG ! Go navy !

I got out after my first Enlistment. I had a hard enlistment cuz I was also in airdale on the USS Constellation cv-64. Carrier duty can be very hard and I was burnt out.

This is probably a dumb question and doesn't pertain to this video, but if you have braces and go into the Navy/ bootcamp are you good to go or do they have some kind of rule against braces?? Just curious thanks..

Hey! Could you please consider making a video about certain different aspects of NAVY, like what´s the difference between seaman and midshipman and how to attain each tittle, It kinda confuses me but I wanna know because I´d like to aspire to become a Captain someday.

Hey jtsuits, so I watched more videos on the gi bill and I think I got all the info I need. Just a question: can you do a video on how to know if you are right for the military (navy). What kind of traits do you need to have to stick with it?

Great insight from Chief, I intend to make Chief myself, so I'll be in it for the long run. Did you take any remote college courses while enlisted? If so what colleges are used most, or what would you say are recommended, accredited colleges to use? Please and thank you. USN all the way Future Salior Sanders MMS

+Timothy Sanders I'm not in the military yet but I go to ASU online. A lot of my military buddies recommended it. Plus, your diploma says ASU so future employers should you get out don't see you went to an online school. It's really well organized with plenty of majors I enjoy it. Another one that offers less majors but still has a nice rep is Penn State World Campus. Best of luck.

I have a question for Chris. I am currently in the Coast Guard and I'm thinking about getting out. I'm a Marine Science Technition and have about 1.5 years left on my contract. I was wondering what his rate was and how was his transition out. Not a lot of people get out of the Coast Guard so I was curious.

College for sure. For MANY reason's. I think it's best for people to get a since of normalcy, and to accomplish more on their own BEFORE they join. I joined the ARMY with my Bachelor's and I also worked and lived a normal civilian life before joining at 30 (I'm not saying wait that late lol). But I know exactly what I'm capable of and literally lmao when people tell me that the civilian life is going to be hard. Ummm...I spent 98% of my life as a civilian so nope- it's not.

My DD214 is work of crap. its faded, crap copy. Even As E6 as Ship company is worse place to get real help, especially after 6 month deployment. All that matters is what ever medical complaints you had/or have , stick around to the area your stationed to go to all those appointments. other wise you slow down your VA benefit's. Pre-pare your funny. when your put in crappy command that really didn't care about E6 below unless your fraternizing/or KAKI you got nothing handed to you , You where told to do it on your Terminal LEAVE, with ship and crew that hardly ever in port. BTW PAY what they don't tell you in T.A.P. your first pay is after DOD audit's your pay, and then you get paid last day of first full month. 99% of any one retiring doesn't have savings, your saving grace, at this point is the Pension, how Much VA is going to cover as TAX free PAY.

Only Blockbusters would work for me on deployment...netflix whom uses that....or Hollywood Videos..that might work for me.... No, I think you guysz miss the point in career tracks....for example you don't have a Blockbusters or Netflix nor Hollywood Flix...manager...all that can be programming so you don't know programming...as in technology and media...thats a chain or post...that to pays you and your soldiers depending on how you set it up. No, there's nothing scary about the real world...the issue is...like prisoners...many are not allowed contact with the real world nor are soldiers trained for a transition job that is still military or both a career track etc... What does that mean..it means many things..including the military may not educated their soldiers appropriately or theres so much fear...they can't learn in real life...come visit civilian life...with exsoldier.. Theres soo much military bitcheness they can't function in real life and it all becomes civilian bitchiness...an exsoldier with bitchiness...thats no longer a soldier... Theres no unknown...its sooner military invading civilian life with bitchiness. No if you're a bitch stay in the military....apparently thats a niche.

OK GUYS LISTEN UP. I joined the Navy in July 71. Was contracted to do bootcamp in Great Lakes, I’m from Chicago. Day I show up, big sign saying, All RECRUITS REPORTING WILL BE GOING TO SAN DIEGO! Did bootcamp, picked up and old WW2 gasoline tanker in Pearl Harbor which we decommissioned. Then picked up a New Ammo ship in Charleston SC. Plank owner...blah blah blah. Vietnam twice, war lost...blah blah blah. The reason I didn’t stay in is because all my superior PO’s always talked about their career, that’s all they cared about. Guys, I’m a citizen sailor, I’m here to win a war. You fucking assholes just lost a fucking war. Win the goddam war Gentleman! The only reason we exist in the Navy is to win. We lost 56,000 men in that fucked up war. Focus Gentleman Focus........smooth sailing.
